Chicken. Did you…read moreknow that it took until the 1920's to figure out how to tell the sex of a baby chicken? Before that all the chickens were raised until they were 4-6 weeks old and then the males were killed because they're not laying eggs and their meat is too dry and tough for nuggets. In the mid 20's someone in Japan figured out that if one would ever so softly and quickly squeeze a baby chick, its intestines would momentarily turn around and show a cloaca, a small external orifice that birds have, which could be analysed to tell if it was a boy or a girl. This discovery gave birth to the profession of a "chicken sexer". To become a chicken sexer one has to get in and undergo a rigorous training in the Zen Nippon school in Nagoya, the only permanent school for the purpose. What is very curios in the process of "sexing chickens", that only in 20% of the cases the chicken sexer can actually point out why he made his choice - for the rest of the time the chicken sexer goes with his intuition and experience. Most of the time they cannot tell exactly why this ass of a chicken is a boy or a girl. It's pure intuition and unconscious neural pathways. Nowadays, with new alternative sexing methods having been invented, only few students graduate from Zen Nippon school each year. However, the pay remains very good - a chicken sexer can make up to 15'000 € a month and you get to travel the world as well. Churrasquera Galo is a Portuguese cantine in 9th, in which a 1/2 chicken with rice (that has flavour), fries and few green things costs 10 €. They also make other dishes with meat, fish and octopus, but I go there for the best Portuguese chicken in town.

*************3.5***********************…read more It was our last nite in Paris so we wanted eat something good but local. We walked around forever trying to decided where and what to eat. We walked by this place and it was PACK w/local so we look over the menu and decided to give this a try. It wasn't French food but I didn't mind because we been eating so much french food that I was a little relief hehe. The place was known for their roasted chicken so we decided to get 2 plates of them which include french fries, salad, rice. We also order a bottle of red wines which want perfect with our meal and after that I order couple of Portugal beer which I never try before. Overall it was a good meals and I like it here but it remind me alittle of El Pollo back in the States. hehehe

We came in before the dinner crowd (~6pm) and were seated quickly. Service was quick and helpful-…read morefood was excellent. We ordered the Rix Grill and 1/2 serving Espeto de Rumsteack (grilled and seasoned with garlic drenched in olive oil and balsamic vinegar?). The Rix Grill was filled with 4 Calamari (perfectly cooked), 1 whole lobster, 2 large shrimp, 8 garlic sautéed shrimp, a load of small mussels. The rice was cooked with seafood onion bouillon? and came with some mussels and shrimp. It was a very filling and delish meal.

Rounding up here. Not sure if my expectations of this place were misplaced because of the thousands…read moreof reviews on Google or the impressive looking seafood platters - I was pretty underwhelmed. The seafood was ok, but we had also ordered some pork as well as a steak and potatoes platter for the kids. The medium rare steak came out severely burned and overcooked. The pork was also dry and barely edible. I wouldn't normally let food go to waste but I had no choice here. The seafood soup was probably the best thing I had here. Had I just ordered that I would have been happy. Side note is when we were waiting outside in the blazing heat, the workers took extra care to not only lock the glass door, but also use the retractable belt barrier - as if I was going to raid the place for their terrible food. On top of that I heard ladies complaining that there were no toilet seats!
