There's a sparse selection of seafood restaurants in the vicinity of the Champs Élysées in Paris and, we just happened to find ourselves a short walk from this one after exiting the evenings entertainment. Aesthetically, the restaurant is lacking in the charm of the surrounding eateries and the classic outdoor cafes of Paris. And once inside, the tables are bustling with loud and animated conversations. Every table is filled and there's a short wait at the door. The place is too busy for pleasantries, as the wait staff is continually rushing and even so, it was a long twenty minutes before our order was taken. Taken in all, the ambiance earns just 2 stars. These first impressions would have me rating the restaurant at best a 3 stars, but the shear effort the wait staff is expending to service the masses crammed inside, together with the lightening speed our order came to the table, once the order was taken, earns the service 4 stars. The key here is patience. And so, we come to the food. First the negative. My advice is; Firstly, don't order beef when you come to a seafood restaurant. But, if you must, don't order the "steak chop", bone in steak. That is unless you enjoy an un-aged, gristly, piece of meat that's very difficult to cut through all the connective tissue. Just don't. But, we came for the seafood and there, the restaurant rewarded us with a tasty and well prepared selection of the ocean's fruits. The cuttlefish was some of the best I've had. Grilled to delicate perfection. The split lobster was quite delicious. Stone crab, head on shrimp and Langostino, we're also quite good. The muscles however, we're a bit dry. I don't think muscles should ever be served without a supporting broth of some sort. And, the accompanying seafood rice and shredded potatoes were very flavorful. The dish as pictured is a serving for two and easily feeds 3 or 4. The place does not skimp on quantity. I suggest you order on the conservative side unless you want to take leftovers with you. For the caliber of the seafood and the huge servings, and very fair pricing, I give the restaurant 4 stars for the food, and I subtract a star for the steak. Overall the food was great! However, be sure to bring your appetite! This seafood gem in the Champs-Elysses neighborhood is everything we thought it would be. The menu consists of 85% seafood and about 10% beef/steak, and 5% everything else. The portions of the food are family style. This means that there will be a lot of food on the plate, often enough for at least 3 people. For example, we got the grilled prawns. We ended up getting 8 ENORMOUS prawns and a bowl of shrimp on the middle. It also came with seafood soup. I also ordered the Steak and Shrimp Skewer. Again, the amount of food on the skewer was enough for at least 3 people (and this was half an order)! Their cocktails are okay, so room to improve on that front, however they do have a long list of of beers and wine to make up for the cocktail list. In terms of the service, they move fast once you're seated (i.e., the food comes quick). But the wait will be relatively long depending on the time of day (around 10-15 minutes). The ambiance is on the more medium side (i.e, not really upscale). The crowd consists mostly of tourists, local university students and young professionals. Additionally, this place has a bit of a local vibe. Unlike most of the restaurants in the area, the staff doesn't really speak any other language outside of French very well. I wanted a seafood feast and Pedra Alta provided. It can be a little hectic. There was a large line out front when we arrived. Go inside for a number. They call them out in French and I had to Google search "46 in French". Once inside, we chose to sit upstairs but I don't think it made a difference. It's a little cramped and loud. Most of the menu is platters for splitting. We chose to start with some cod fritters (pairs wonderfully with their house made aioli) and split a grilled seafood platter for 2. The platter was huge, huuuuuge. It came with french fries but also little shoestring fries, potato aficionados rejoice. The lobster was a little overcooked, but the giant prawns were perfect. I also loved the squid skewers. The smaller shrimp were good but a pain to peel and mussels so plentiful I don't think any two people could ever finish. It was fine but probably not worth the wait and not good enough to warrant going back. Protip: The Seine is very close so have a post dinner bridge walk to work off some of the calories. read more

Pedra Alta was most certainly the biggest mystery of my entire Paris trip. My mom's friend had recommended this place as THE place to go for massive quantities of good seafood for cheap, so there was no way we were skipping this place. We got there pretty early for dinner, and there were already about 5-6 people waiting ahead of us in the very small doorway. The restaurant had also curtained off the entrance so we had no idea what the situation was, and the hostess was nonexistent for a good while. When the hostess/waitress did emerge, she promptly kicked everyone out and told us all to wait outside with no ETA. We waited about 15 minutes before we were let in, only to find out that Pedra Alta is a MASSIVE 2 story restaurant with 3/4 of their tables open. Sadly, this was also paired with only 2 members of the waitstaff working because the rest were eating their dinner. Our waiter that seated us upstairs and took our orders was neither friendly nor pleasant, but the other waitstaff that stopped by afterwards were lovely, despite the slow-ish service. I'd say the food itself was good, especially for the price, but nothing mind-blowing. However, it most certainly is unique since there's not a lot of places that come close to Pedra Alta's presentation. We did prefer the grilled variety over the raw (oysters were too salty, according to my parents), and the paella-esque rice balanced it all well. I would recommend this place if you're craving large quantities of seafood for cheap, but only if the wait is less than half an hour. read more

I recommend any dish that has cooked shrimp WITH THE SHELL ON. Those are especially fresh for some reason while the ones that come peeled taste kinda old/frozen. Lobster is really yummy and so is the beef! I came here a month ago with two of my friends on vacation from the United States and this negative experience has still stuck with me. The food is not that bad, but the wait staff made our entire time there unpleasant. Right off the bat our waiter was very disinterested when he seated us. A simple "hi" and a smile would have made all the difference. He also was very rude to my friend, physically pushing her in the back to tell her to scoot in and reaching across her face repeatedly with no apology. He was quite fluent in English when he took our order, so I don't think that was an issue. In addition, we've been to several other French restaurants and had fantastic experiences, so this was quite upsetting. We ended up ordering beef and shrimp with fries. But we waited an hour for food, I saw the couple who came in the same time with us had already finished and left but we were still waiting for food. From the looks of the restaurant out front, you would be crazy not to want to try this place. The line queues nearly around the corner each night. The first time we passed by, our curiosity was piqued. The second time, our original dinner plans fell through so we thought we would try it. We decided to wait in line since we arrived on the early side of dinner. Surprisingly the line moved fast and we were seated within 15 minutes. Regrettably they sat us at the worst table in the house--the table closest to the toilettes on the second floor. Other tables were available so I should have spoken up or gotten the heck out of there. But our three kids were tired and hungry so I uncharacteristically zipped my mouth. We ordered one of the most expensive dishes on the menu--a fruits de mar platter, all cooked, no raw items. The dish arrived; impressively big. As we dug in, I could appreciate the tenderness and flavors of the various seafood. Initially, it tasted good because the dish was piping hot. Others have commented that the the seafood tasted rubbery; I think that as the seafood sits in the hot pan it continues to cook. So by the time you get halfway through the enormous feast, your food is cooked well, well done. My advice would be to order the smaller fruits de mar dish and opt for another entree to supplement so you don't encounter this problem. I also couldn't help but wonder how unsanitary the restaurant might be...nothing was outright filthy but we were sitting by the dishwashing area where the staff bring all the used dishes and leftover food. Kind of ruins the mood for a classy Parisian meal. The ambiance in the restaurant was lousy. Reminded me of an overly chaotic dim sum place in Manhattan on a crowded Sunday morning. Which is fine if you know that you're going into that kind of environment and if you know that the food is going to be damn good (which, it generally is if you find the right dim sum house). Neither was the case for us here, so I doubt we will ever be coming back or even recommending the restaurant to anyone we know. Lastly, I am writing this review at 3AM, a few hours before I leave Paris, because I am up with food poisoning. coincidence? Possibly. But I highly doubt it was my dessert at Laduree that is causing me to be doubled over in pain in the wee hours of the morning. I have aimed to write an objective review, devoid of any emotion, despite my health concerns. I wanted to love this place, believing I stumbled upon a gem of a restaurant. I have a bad experience yesterday at this place: 1: The food size is so large even for 1/2 portion, but the waiter doesn't give any notice, and just said a 1/2 portion is for 1 person. It surprise us when the food come, 1/2 portion is enough for 2 people, then when we try to ask if we can cancel the other main entree, the manager refuse and said it's already cooking. I went here with a few colleagues last week, having heard that you could get lots of beef at a reasonable price. It was a reasonable price, all right! We split a beef skewer meant for two between the four of us, which gave us two fist-sized steaks and bottomless bread and fries for 10€ each. We were herded in like cattle, our tiny group of four: given a number by the guy at the door and then ushered upstairs where lots of groups were tucking into their giant platters. The service was fast and curt but friendly, and while the waiters couldn't explain the differences between the two types of salt on the table further than "one for beef, one for fish," I'd give them three stars. Two stars for the food though, because while the meat was copious and cooked to our specifications, I found the flavors a bit lacking (had to add lots of that salt) and the fries sad (a little mushy, not super fresh). Very interesting restaurant! The menu is mostly enormous platters of seafood with various fish combinations served with French fries in the side. We ordered a prawn and calamari combo for two. It arrived on two giant skewers reminiscent of meat in a Brazilian restaurant. The grilled prawns had to be hand peeled which was a messy business but very delicious. The grilled calamari was also tender and succulent. Grilled red peppers and lardons completed the feast, all of it basted in a garlic flavoured oil. There are some meat selections on the menu as well. Overall it was delicious although it takes a lot of serviettes to clean up! read more

I was in Paris 12 year ago and often went to their restaurant near Orly airport. 12 years later I came back to visit Paris, and it was just near to my hotel, I didn't relisez until entering to order and see the restaurant logo. What a surprise! But I want to say, the taste is excellent, seafood are fresh and alive( I knew their seafood transports from Portugal everyday!) The price is reasonable, stuffs are warm...
