Cage and Aquarium was on our venue's (The Joinery) preferred vendor list, and we had a great experience with the company and our DJ, Nathan! Booking the company was simple after an informational call. We had the option of choosing our individual DJ or filling out a survey and being matched with someone when our event got closer. We chose the latter and got paired with Nathan. We then filled out an in-depth survey about our tastes and preferences for each portion of the day and reviewed that with Nathan on a video call a couple of weeks before our wedding day. Nathan did a spectacular job on our wedding day. He was really familiar with our venue and closely followed the plan we came up with for pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. I was especially grateful that he trimmed down all of our chosen songs for grand entrances and planned dances (at our request!) so that we didn't have to do that ourselves. We got so many compliments on the song selections from our friends/family. Nathan kept the dance floor going the entire night. We had a relatively smaller group at 65 guests, and given that, I was admittedly a little nervous about the party vibe lasting, but it ended up being the complete opposite! We booked Cage and Aquarium for 2 of our Wedding Celebration. We highly recommend them. We had Kristin as our photographer and Drew as our DJ. Cage and Aquarium were so flexible to work with our prices since we were having multiple events. We were able to add hourly sessions for our Tea Ceremony. I would definitely recommend also adding additional hourly photo sessions for your other wedding events like your bridal shower like we did with our Tea Ceremony. I don't think this is common practice, but I think it would be smart and you would appreciate those photos in future OUR PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE: We had Kristin as our photographer, and we were so impressed with her work. She photographed for us for 3 of our wedding events: our Chinese tea ceremony in July, our engagement session in October, and our wedding in December. In our Chinese Tea Ceremony, she was able to handle the chaotic environment of my large family and capture amazing candid shots. When I return to the photos, I really could relive that day which I really do appreciate. In our fall engagement sessions, I appreciated her ability to capture the beautiful autumn landscape and elements. We gave her 2 locations and she surprised us with other location shots we didn't even think about and even gave us more time in our engagement sessions. We used so many of the photos in the decor of our December wedding. In our December wedding, I really wanted to make sure to select a photographer who would capture winter weddings well. It's frustrating to only view summer/spring wedding photos in my initial research of photographers and photography companies, so when I canvases numerous photographers, I definitely saw that Kristin had a great eye in shooting for all seasons. When contacting Cage and Aquarium, They gave me access to other winter wedding photographs and many photographers to choose from. I choose Kristin because she works really well with lighting and her winter/indoor photos were amazing. Her photographs for our December wedding exceeded our expectations. Kristin is very personable and really helps you make you feel comfortable. She's also very accommodating. While also being super professional and keeps your needs on top, you can tell that she really enjoys her work, which makes you trust her and also enjoy your day. OUR DJ EXPERIENCE We had Drew at our Chinese Tea Ceremony reception, and he was amazing. We had 2 wedding celebrations, and we ended up booking 2 different DJs for both events. I selected Drew and my husband selected another DJ. We joked around that it would be a competition for who selected the best DJ, and I definitely won with selecting Drew. Drew was able to really get our party on the dance floor, and most of our guests were on the dance floor for the majority of the time. He also really was great at adjusting our music as the night wore on. At the end of the night, our guests were encoring Drew and he ended the night with everyone on the floor singing along to Beyonce. It was truly amazing. Oh man, let me tell you, Cage & Aquarium, and especially DJ Mykol, brought the party to our wedding! We first engaged with Cage & Aquarium when we got engaged way back in 2019 (the Before Times). We went to a wedding Expo and saw DJ Mykol spinning vinyl and just knew he had to be our wedding DJ. Fast forward to December 2021 when we finally were able to host our event. DJ Mykol was one of our favorite wedding vendors. He was extremely responsive and positive throughout the process. And always game to try our goofy ideas (like Rick Rolling our guests). He made sure the dance floor was packed the whole event - and really was an asset to our event. Who knew that Alanis Morissette's Ironic would be such a wedding floor jam???? DJ MYKOL DID! It's now going to be my go-to at all events moving forward. I cannot recommend DJ Mykol, and his partner Mario (who DJ'ed our cocktail hour) enough. Overall, the photographers were nice and responsive. Some of the "action" pictures were good and actually caught the moment. The two big issues with the photos were that 1. the staged pictures weren't done well and 2. the photographers were not proactive in getting good pictures. My (now husband) and I had met with the lead photographer ahead of time to discuss what pictures we were looking for and stress that we aren't good at posing for photos and need assistance. While we were told during this meeting we would be given direction and this was not the case day of. In the staged photos, sometimes feet or my dress were cut off, people were not positioned well so heads were cut off or the photo wasn't balanced, and they didn't try to make each picture something you'd want to Instagram. I'm really disappointed that I didn't get the night time in the city street photo I had dreamed of. The photo they took we are facing an odd angle and it doesn't make us stand out. If you're good at posing and being able to lead photographers, I think they would be a great service. In our case, especially since we reached out before hand, I am extremely disappointed. read more

From our first conversation to the wedding day, she was a pleasure to work with, and she completely understood exactly what we were looking for - the vibe, the type of music, what we did and didn't want, everything. She was perfect with the processional/ceremony, any announcements we needed, finding the perfect balance of lowkey but catchy music for the cocktail hour/dinner, etc. When the dance floor opened, she was incredible. I missed my own dessert table and flaming donut station because I loved every song she played and I could never leave the dance floor (for me, that speaks VOLUMES). Our experience working with Cage and Aquarium was great. After providing *a lot* of information about our likes and dislikes (the questionnaire was very thorough, which was much appreciated), we felt totally at ease the day of and Justin did not disappoint! We were so happy that we opted for the turn table add on. We even brought a few records in for Justin to play, one of which was for our first dance. It was incredibly special and an experience I don't think many DJs offer. We moved right after the wedding, so we were super busy and Justin kept our records safe until we could arrange a time to meet up. The MC was also a nice touch. Cage and Aquarium are an amazing company. I hired them to DJ my birthday party. They were quick and attentive when first booking with them. They matched me with Trevor. Trevor was amazing throughout the whole process. During our first meeting he asked all the right questions to make sure he was capturing the "vibe" I wanted of the party. He understood that I wanted upbeat, chill music in the beginning and then more dance floor music towards the end of the event. He arrived on time the day of the event to set everything up and made sure to check in with me again to see if I had any additional requests or comments. During the party, Trevor was dancing behind the dj Booth which caught the eyes of my guests and I was told multiple times that Trevor was a vibe and they wanted to get out on the dance floor. Having a fun, energetic dj makes the world of a difference! Trevor was also great at taking song requests when appropriate from guests, but also not letting people get on the microphone unless it was approved by me. Trevor was also accommodating and flexible. We wanted to extend the party for an additional hour and Trevor made it happen! I used Cage & Aquarium for my wedding photography and DJ in September 2017. I was incredibly happy with my choice!! For photography, we worked with Hadassah as our main photographer and Melanie as the second shooter. She dealt very well with our awkwardness around the engagement photos and we ended up with some awesome images! But it was incredibly impressive how she was able to capture so many incredible moments from our wedding - there were very few things that didn't get memorialized in our photos. I loved her style as well - very realistic and she has a great eye for light. We also managed to keep running away from her (inadvertantly, I promise!) on the wedding day, and she was incredibly patient with us! Ed was our DJ, and he is just such a nice guy. We had some interesting requests (lots of musical theatre nerds in the house), and he handled everything so well. We also had friends who sang during our first dance, and Ed was great about troubleshooting the equipment when it didn't work quite as planned in the moment. Shelley was quick to respond to any inquiries we had and it was very easy having to deal with a wedding date change due to COVID. We are THRILLED with the job Cage & Aquarium did for our wedding as both the DJ and the photographers! They always responded to our emails immediately and were happy to answer any questions on both ends at once, which helped so much with the organization on the day of because we could have our final meetings with our lead photographer (Eva) and DJ (Michael) on the same day. For both services, the company sends you a very detailed client form to fill out so you can customize it however you'd like, down to what family members you want in photos or what songs you do/do not want played. DJ Mykol was absolutely INCREDIBLE! He took our directions and executed them perfectly, and then added extra on top of that. He made sure we were all on the same page the entire night, down to the smallest detail, and really went the extra mile for us. For example, we asked him to announce photos with our friends from college, and he took the extra time to actually find the fight songs from our universities, which everyone LOVED and got very into the spirit of the night! He also made sure to play all of our specific requests seamlessly with the rest of the perfectly thought-out playlist completely in line with the songs we asked for, while still taking and incorporating guest requests. Everyone at our wedding was raving about how amazing he was all night and he did a wonderful job keeping everyone out on the dance floor! As for our photographers, Eva did both our engagement photos and our wedding photos. We are so excited to see how the wedding photos turn out, but our engagement photos were great! Cage and Aquarium are the jam. My wife and I hired them for our wedding and their process is really cool. They take your personal tastes and match you with a DJ who loves/mixes similar music (and who knows what they're doing based on how you get down). We got matched with DJ Stack (aka Ajoyi), and frankly, she was the toast AND the jam. It was tough coordinating since my fiance and I were in a different state while planning our wedding but Ajoyi took the time to make sure we were comfortable and to go over pronunciations of names and whatnot for the wedding (she killed it by the way - nailed all of the tough Indian names on my wife's side). She was an absolute delight through and through. On the day of, she was phenomenal as an MC - upbeat, enthusiastic, and charismatic. Come time for dancing, she nailed our tastes (and our crowd's tastes) exactly. Whole dance floor looked like a Masta P video from 1994 - it was beautiful. He got our taste in music right away, the night of execution was spot on and he gave us the gift of having Erik's mother's recording cleaned up so we can enjoy it and could use it in the wedding. He was flexible, he answered all our question and listened to all of my suggestions and was just fantastic. But even before we met Kevin, we met with Mike, who was absolutely wonderful and informative about the services. He helped us understand what we would be getting and what we needed to think about for a DJ.
