As a long term sufferer of TMJ, I am well used to encountering dentists that fail to understand the complexities of this condition mainly due to the fact that it is a grey area between the medical and the dental professions. Not so with Dr. Barry, not only does he have a working knowledge of TMJ, he also has a sympathetic ear and I found him to be very thorough. After being correctly provided with a pan-oral x ray, Dr. Barry did his utmost to get to the root of the problem (no pun intended) and after a detailed explanation of the images, it was found that the pain was most probably a result of my TMJ. I have since recommended friends and clients to Docklands Dental and all have agreed that they do indeed offer the 'Next Generation Care' they endorse.

I have gone from being somebody who would do anything to delay or put off a dentist's visit into somebody who now doesn't see it as too big of a deal, and that is down in large part to the friendliness and bedside manner of everyone in this practice. My wife and daughter also attend here now, as well as a good few people I work with, based on my feedback, and so I'd recommended them 100%.

The reception is located on the bottom floor and I was greeted by two very friendly receptionist. Filled out a quick form and was right on time to meet with Dr. Ed. Being honest I was actually taken aback by Dr. Ed's friendliness. You can tell that his patients are very important to him and he took genuine interest in myself. He was quick and precise but at no point did I feel rushed. I definitely felt he knew what he was talking about. I was then moved along to the Hygienist who again I felt very comfortable with. I was in…read moreextreme pain on Christmas eve and called at six o'clock, he was able to see me within 45 minutes, I was in agony and had not slept in four days, I was on antibiotics which were not working, within an hour he preformed a root canal treatment, I felt no pain and he was so considerate and explained everything he was doing and asked me to raise my hand if I needed him to stop. I had a GroupOn voucher that was bought for 36 EUR, worth 90 EUR. It covered a dental check up with…read morescale and polish. When I got in touch to book an appointment they had none until after the expiry date of the voucher. But they said they'd honour the voucher after this date or I could get a refund. This was quite fair of them, to be honest. I opted to take an appointment. Booked for 9am, I arrived at 8:55am for the appointment (which I was advised would last around 30 mins when booking). I was kept waiting for 20 mins by which point I'd realised that only the dental nurse was here. She called me up, explained the dentist got stuck in traffic and he would be here in two minutes. She got me ready and at 9:25am the appointment started. 15 mins later and I was done, but only with the scale and polish, from what I could tell. I'm not sure the dentist was able to perform a full dental checkup while doing the scale and polish. At this stage I was not going to ask about the checkup, I just wanted to get out of there. I was already going to be a little later for work than I'd promised my manager, who kindly let me arrive later to work so I could make the appointment. The dental nurse was nice, it was not really her fault, but wish she'd told me when I arrived and given me the option to come back at another time so the voucher could be honoured in full. But what I really wish is I'd taken a refund on the voucher. Hindsight is great, huh?

There are different dentists at this practice and if you like one I would ask for them again. Its unfortunate one might give the place not such a good name. The last dentist was rough and the injection site was sore for days after. I had asked her what was involved in taking out a root left in the gum and she would only say simple, simple when I really wanted to know what she was going to do. When I arrived for my appointment I was given a disclaimer to sign that listed possible complications such as permanent numbness, so much for simple. Poor communication. She seemed to be on a tight time schedule and was rushing me to say I felt numb even though I didn't. She kept repeating pressure ok, pressure ok. I wanted to tell her I know what numb feels like but there was an instrument in my mouth. Then the assistant came rushing over as if I was a troublesome patient who needed to be calmed. I will ask for the nice dentist in future.

She is great and listens to my feedback with what I want and am looking for throughout my treatment. Every time I call the office, whomever is on the other end always recognises my voice and starts chatting with me. It makes me feel like I am not just another patient, but they make me feel like I am an individual and that they have a special relationship with me. I am extremely nervous at the dentist, and to be fair, the dentist did do her best to explain everything she was doing and keep me calm. What wasn't explained was the costs of everything. I was told my initial exam would be €50, and could they do two little X-rays (no additional cost was mentioned, but these run at €15 a go). Then I was told I needed a filling where my tooth had broken (€115) , and a small buccal filling on the next tooth (€70), However, I was charged for two standard fillings. When I queried this, the dentist is now claiming I had a cavity and she performed a full filling, without mentioning anything about this to me, or performing any drilling on either tooth? I've asked for my records, and I'm waiting to see if they are going to stand by their claims, but needless to say I won't be returning.
