They will take orders for wedding and celebration cakes to be baked to order but if you fancy baking yourself, there is every accessory available for baking and decorating your cake here. They also run classes for baking, usually aimed at the more experienced baker, such as classes in sugar flowers. If you want to bake to impress, head to Corteil & Barratt for a helping hand.

We discovered Corteil & Barratt when looking for someone to make and deliver our wedding cake. After tasting their vanilla, chocolate and fruit cakes we were so impressed that we ordered a tier of each!! The cakes are moist, full of flavour and every one of our guests commented on how delicious they were (with many people sampling all three - the benefit of over-catering!!) Corteil & Barratt delivered the cakes to our ceremony venue (in Wales!!!) and when I saw the finished display I was thrilled - they looked absolutely stunning and were everything I'd hoped for. I had asked for lots of intricate icing and sprays of sugar flowers in white and the finished article was just beautiful. Since then we've had two children and Corteil & Barratt are always our first port of call for Christening and family Birthday cakes. Each time we're always hugely impressed with the standard of the beautiful icing and decoration, as well as the delicious cake itself. We've had hula huts, cricket pitches and number shaped caked with trains, etc... the list goes on and will no doubt continue to grow as the years go by!!

The owner is personable, creative and very talented. Everything from the initial call to delivery was outstanding. She has an amazing eye for detail and her work is first class. If you're a serious cake decorator, however, the selection isn't going to blow you away... just your basic (rather dusty) Wilton accessories and some of Ms. Asher's own bakeware products. The best part was that the man minding the shop was very helpful and pleasant. I came here because I'd commissioned to do a decorating job, and with the bulk of my equipment left behind in the States, I was in a serious bind... frankly, I was just grateful I found a store offering such products at all... though when I got there, the assortment was pretty disappointing and the prices were astronomically high compared to what I've paid in American craft stores. If you're in a pinch, Jane Asher will do, but if there's any way that you can book a flight to the States and head to the local Michaels craft store... you'll find yourself awash in an excessive variety of cake decorating and sugar craft paraphernalia - all at rock-bottom prices - if you need a bunch of stuff, the entire trip might just be cheaper that shopping here... wouldn't surprise me if that's what Ms. Asher does herself!

As an American, I found this a bit comforting in that I knew what I was looking at. The prices, however, are reflective of the fact that the company has bought, imported, paid customs, and is now selling at a profit with VAT. It is EXPENSIVE for tools and the like. Colourings, sprinkles, iridescent dust, etc. were pretty fair market prices, however. And they have nice cake boxes for transporting baked goods (the reason I found the place was actually for some simple, inexpensive, cupcakes boxes). Even though the prices are a bit on the high side, the store does have the upper hand in that it's a bit of a monopoly for finding such things. So it can charge as it will. Still, I'll be going back. There were some delicious-looking candied lavender petals that need to find their way into a cake!

They offer an icing workshop which was filled up for the day but when I go back to London I will sign up in advance for a class! The shop is bright and easy to see all the product. They have specialty cookie boxes you can buy and you can decorate the cookies at home. The staff was friendly and inviting.

It is quiet during the day when icing classes aren't going on (basically in school hours), they have good coffee, nice cake, generous heating, free wifi, really nice staff, and they don't mind you sitting around and working there. I wish they had more biscuits on sale for consumption in store (like... ones that are good to eat rather than to look at).
