I stayed here for a month while my dog was receiving cancer treatment. The staff is amazing and very accommodating. Security was excellent, I felt very safe here staying alone with my 2 dogs. Homeless yes... more like parking in a old parking lot or drive in theater. But it wasn't until I was extremely harassed by the lady Volunteer in the office so bad to where I needed to stop working for two days to find a new park and move my rig. I have also let all my fellow full time working RV group to stay clear. I've read a lot of the Yelp reviews after my incident here and I guess this is a continuous thing with the RV Park lady. I have never reviewed anything before but knew I had to when I saw Nicole H's fictional review. Why do I say fictional? Because I was in the office when she was ranting at the staff!!!! In fact there was 7 PEOPLE (including Nicole's child) in the office when she complained. Nicole stayed there (as I did) during the 4H livestock auction. I'm sure she was told like we were that the auction was going on and the park was packed. The staff wasnt rude at all. SHE WAS! She kept demanding to speak to the manager and the staff told her repeatedly that they would have him contact her. They said they were sorry she didn't enjoy her stay. That wasn't good enough for her. What she wanted was a refund or a future free stay. She said so!!! She never "politely" said anything. She was ranting and preventing staff from helping the other three customers in the office. It was a customer that threatened to call police because of the way she was acting. She also left out her cussing at the staff in front of her own child. Great mom. I've stayed at Cal Expo RV Park for years. It's a parking lot. There are few amenities. Bathrooms, showers, laundry and a dog park. But there's full hookups at every site and fifty bucks for full hookups is good as any real RVer knows. I couldn't get my favorite spot because of the event but that was ok. This was their first event in over a year. Were the kids loud and ubiquitous? Yes. Can you blame them? They've been locked up a year and unable to pursue their livestock dreams. I cut them some slack. What I like about the park is the staff. They will do their best to squeeze you in if they can. And it's centrally located. Plus, if I'm not mistaken they haven't raised their prices at all this year unlike a lot of parks during covid-19. It was fifty last March when I started and fifty this past month. Anyway, I was in the room as was several others when this rude customer almost made us late for an appointment by her behavior.. I would leave less stars if possible and I won't be returning to this poorly ran RV pit stop. This location is ran by volunteers who are to use the words rude and disrespectful would be a understatement. We were put in a concrete spot meant for a much smaller rig with only 30 amp power. We were told take it or leave after making a reservation. After having already made the trip we made it work. Power was popping the entire duration of our stay. Kids running around in mobs at night thru our camp site no adequate security. Kids riding bikes in groups of 6 and 7 kids thru our camp site and when I approached security I was told nothing they could do it was and I quote a parent supervision issue!! When I went to the office to address the issues we had during our stay I was told too bad leave and refused a management contact number. When I politely asked for a corporate number I was treated with the police being called on me. We will NEVER return to this location and for $50 a night I recommend looking elsewhere. This place is atrocious and so is there security and volunteer staff. I will be following up with Cal expo customer service to file a official complaint. Rip off RV Park - Checked in last Friday at 9 pm with my TearDrop and We found out that we needed a key to access the bathroom and shower. The guy on the phone did not mention anything about the key to access the bathroom. So we could not use the bathroom or shower for a $55 rip off price. The wifi also was very bad and low speed and no cable tv. If you don't have a bathroom in your camper avoid this RV park. I asked about a partial refund and was denied saying that most campers come with a bathroom. read more

This RV Park is nothing more than an over priced parking lot. The showers are disgusting. No tables at the sites. And the RVs are close together. The only good aspect is the location which is right next to the American River Pathway. Surely Cal Expo can remodel the showers at the prices they are charging! read more

I've stayed here numerous times and it's always been great. Full hookups. 30 and 50 amp, water and sewer and lots of pull thrus. No, there are no real amenities. A laundry, bathrooms with showers and a dog park. But the true amenity is the location. Centrally located, between 80 and 50. Near downtown. Bike trail. The American River. There's an asphalt side and a gravel side. The gravel is more level and resembles a drive in theater without the screen. They're one of the few RV parks that never closed since the pandemic started. There's free WIFI but it's spotty at best. Don't expect to use it for streaming. They accept pets, even large breeds. German Shepherds, Pitbulls, Mastiffs as well as the tiny foofoo breeds. But you must keep them on a leash and be a responsible pet owner. If you've got an older RV be prepared to send in photos of it for approval. Be aware it is NOT A LONG TERM PARK. You can't live there. The longest you can stay is 30 days and then you have to be gone for thirty days before you can come back. $50 a night, $300 a week and the best deal is $850 for 30 days, but your rig and vehicles must be registered and insured in the name of whoever is staying. This place does NOT charge you until you arrive unless you're a late arrival. If you're a no show and you didn't call, you will be charged for one night. That's about it. read more

Not a pleasant stay. When making reservations please note pull thru spots are not guaranteed. They tried to put us in a back in that would have been impossible, stating they were slammed. Mind you there we lots of pull thru's empty and the 2 weeks we were there it was practically half full at best. The spot he ended up putting us had a spot light directly over us, so much for fresh air at night trying to sleep. The area around the park is very sketchy. This RV Park is basically a giant parking lot without much space between sites. It's clean and conveniently located. They do not seem organized well. I paid extra for a late check-out time. At the time I checked in, I asked how will they know that I paid for a late check-out, and their response was that they would know since they would be working the next day. I would think that they would have some sort of system for indicating those who are late check-out people. The next day during a gathering with family, I received a call from the managers asking why I have not checked out yet. I explained that I paid extra for a late check-out and then she said she would look it up. She then said she saw that I paid. I would think she would look up my account before calling me. read more

Ok, this is a no frills park. No swimming pool, tennis court or clubhouse (to speak of). But what it does have is nice quiet spaces to park your RV. The asphalt is a little hilly, but the gravel area is flat. If you're looking for a shady spot during the summer, well, good luck. There are about 4 spots with trees for shade. But, the American River is just a few steps away and, if you're so inclined, the bike trail is always ready. Dog park is always open, small laundry area (check for hours) and restrooms with showers are available. But, the shining star are the camp hosts. They'll do their very best to find you a spot suitable for your rig. Full hookups at every spot. No upcharge for 50 amp. This is a centrally located park with everything closed by... when there isn't a pandemic. Water park, theaters, shopping center and restaurants galore. Everything is closed except restaurants for take out or delivery. Stay here in your way to our from anywhere or just get out of your house and stay by the river. read more

This is really nothing more than a "RV park". Pull through sites are just in a big gravel parking lot. It did get quite dusty. There was a layer of dust after two days on everything in our motorhome. Location is convenient to restaurants and stores, just about 1 mile away. There is a grassy dog park, which is nice. However, for small dogs, the fence has huge gaps that they can escape out of. And it is not double gated, so you have to watch that someone doesn't let your dogs out. But the dog park is a nice benefit, none the less. There is another area of the park that is black top, but it appears to be for smaller, back in units. There's a horse track right next-door, across the fence. read more

For $45 per night, it met my expectations. Drive-throughs were easy to give in-and-out of, the gravel lot in the back where I was parked was nice and level. Although the sites were narrow, it didn't affect me because I wasn't looking for a resort. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. My daughter is a travel volleyball player and plays volleyball at Cal Expo on occasion. We had heard about this place a couple of years ago but never booked it and now we wish we would have sooner. The host(s) that work in the office are just incredible people and very accommodating. I'll get to that part below. We arrived late but they had a nice open pull thru site waiting for us and our 40' Fifth Wheel. The main parking lot is paved and clean. It accommodates 38' and below RV's. The overflow area (where we stayed) is for 38' and larger. It isn't paved but is a rock and gravel base and the sites are nice and big and level. The pedestals are very good and easy to hook up to. Again, this area was/is very clean. There are no signs of extended stay campers here, however, they do allow up to 30 day stays. For the most part, most rigs were newer and clean in the park. Amenities: Showers and restrooms are clean and tidy. They charge a fee of 20 dollars to get a restroom/shower key that you can keep during your stay but will refund the money when you turn in your key. There is a great walking path and bike trail behind the park that is great for stretching your legs and getting some fresh air. I didn't poke around too much but it seemed like they also had an area where you could do small get togethers or conference events with table and Charis set up. Security: Security was good and there are bright security lights that blanket the area. I did see security patrol a few times while we stayed. Wifi and Cable: There is decent wifi in the park. It's good enough for doing basic things such as email, web browsing, etc. but probably not good enough for streaming. There is no cable hook ups but the over-the-air local stations come in very well and in HD. We were able to pick up about 35-40 good stations. Access to Cal Expo: This is my only drawback. We "thought" we would possibly be able to walk to the fairgrounds but unfortunately weren't able to due to no access from the RV park. The weather was pretty rainy while we were there though so driving to the Cal Expo parking lot was the better decision anyway. Definitely not a deal breaker. Having said that... this is where the staff shined.... Staff: Because of my daughters play schedule we knew we wouldn't be able to check out at 11 am so we paid 10 dollars for a late check out and they told us we could leave at 4 pm. Well, they ended up playing well and so we called the office and they again were so helpful and said as long as we were out by midnight all was fine. We ended up having a break in play so I went early, picked up the fifth wheel and pulled into the Cal Expo lot anyway. Most cars were already gone and the lot was pretty empty so it wasn't an issue. I just REALLY appreciated the staff being so helpful and understanding of our situation. This is by no means an RV resort but if you are looking for a clean, safe place to stay while traveling through Sac then I highly recommend Cal Expo RV Park. We will most definitely be staying here again when we play another tournament in Sac. read more

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a parking lot... Sites are very uneven, so bring your leveling blocks. Spaces are good size, not too tight. There are a couple of dog areas, one with some grass and dirt, the other is a small enclosure with gravel. The price is average at $45 per night. There are some small trees in the lot, and in terms of noise, it's fairly quiet. WiFi is only good to check your email, no streaming! Staff was friendly at the site and over the phone. But, best of luck receiving a reply email or even a confirmation email for your reservation. I had to call twice and leave voicemails in order to ensure my reservation was still valid. BTW, they did not return my calls, I simply kept calling... Overall, chances are that I will not return. read more

For 45 bucks a night it was a little steep in my opinion for what you get. It is literally a big parking lot with white lines representing your spot. It was full hookups which is always nice. That Damn tree above us was dropping sh!t all over the place. Pretty nasty. Also the bike trail and river are super close so there was a few interesting people walking around. I did meet the late night security guard which was cool. Nice to see them roaming around. Service wasnt always friendly. Will I come back? The RV Park is clean & well maintained. The office staff is very nice & helpful. You park on concrete but it's nice & flat. A few trees but not a lot of shade. Great dog area that is fenced & green. Also a smaller gravel area for dogs. Good hookups & each space is quite wide! It's been HOT while we've been here but a nice stop on the way North!! Great rates too. Everyone is super nice. Really easy late check ins. They have an area by the office where they leave you a map and permit. Security patrols at night which is nice. The map was so easy, led us right to our spot. Super easy hookups for each spot, no sharing! We actually extended our stay one day. There's food and stores close by, walkable. Perfect size dog park. Completely paved lot makes it an easy drive. The laundry room is very small. Only 2 or 3 of each washer and dryer if I remember correctly but there's laundry places near by. We'll definitely be coming back here! read more

WiFi signal is decent, even in the back lot. Slow connection, but better connectivity than most RV places and faster speed than Tengo. I would stay here again, but not for longer than a few days. The cons: It's a parking lot. On weekends, you can see the racetrack lights in the back lot. Laundry room is small and only has dryer with heat. Family of skunks live over the levee and like to visit at night. The pros: Conveniently located, safe, (security drives through park several times a night), and an excellent, fenced-in dog run. Only permanent residents are the hosts. Decent location with the American River Bike Trail within walking distance and a few good restaurants nearby. read more

This is a decent place to stay. The curb appeal is poor, the WiFi works most of the time, the employees are helpfull, but there is a lot of noise from the freeway. It is 5-10 minutes drive to most anywhere you would want to go in Sacramento and there are only 3 RV parks near downtown. read more

If you need a campground with amenities, don't stay here. If you need a place to sleep while you explore Sacramento, stay here. It is basically a parking lot with full hook ups. Part asphalt and part gravel. We stayed in the gravel area and it was an easy pull through spot. Average width, but really long. At least I'm assuming the spot was long, there is no way to tell. We had plenty of space to spread out. The dog park was nice and big and my dog loved it. The access to the American River bike path was just outside the entrance. It was nice and quiet and the price was right. I didn't see any security to speak of at first, but we stayed through the 4th of July and bought some legal fireworks. We set them off that night and some unhappy camper called the cops on us. Cal expo police showed up and told us we were fine, but he had to respond. He wished us a Happy Independence Day and told us as long as we bought the fireworks in Sacramento at a legal stand, we could use them there. At least we knew security was available. read more

So this COVID thing has got people doing business in different ways. I get that. But do not give your credit card information to this place unless you are there and ready to stay. We are having work done on our fifth wheel and wasn't sure the day we would be actually able to go into park. When I filled out information on line, it automatically displays today's date, not thinking anything about that, I spoke to two separate individuals assuring me that our card would definitely not be charged until we checked in. Guess What? Card charged, we never took any of the required documentation requested, insurance of both vehicles, titles and of course Photo ID's as I told them the circumstances. Long story short they messed up our reservation (but did not mess up charging us the full price in advance) and we had no access to restrooms or showers after a long day on the road. Cal Expo RV park does not pretend to be anything other than what it is...a place to park your RV and sleep in a secure environment that can accommodate any size rig. The back lot where all the big rigs go is just a gravel parking lot. You have all your hookups and plenty of room for your rig and toad. There laundry room was older but the machines were clean and maintained. They had showers and bathrooms with coded locks available if you needed them. We needed a place to stay for a month while getting some inspections and work done on our RV...Cal Expo fit the bill because it was centrally located and it's monthly rate was very reasonable. They had no problem with us taking our rig in and out and even abandoning the space for a few days while work was being done on our rig...this was very convenient. There are a lot of restaurants in the area as well as theaters right down the street. The bad...the neighborhood gets rough after dark. Constant sirens throughout the night...homeless going by the entrance to the park and using the water faucets right by the entrance...I never saw them come any further and we walked a lot. The place could go from packed to empty in an eyeblink...so it could be crazy quiet one night and a little noisy the next. It also sits right next to the Cal Expo harness racing track...so on race nights you get to listen to the races...I did not think that was bad....kinda neat actually. You have freeway noise and train noise and if Cal Expo is having an event, then a lot of traffic noise as well. It all comes down to your expectations...if you want a resort, then go somewhere else. If you need a secure place to stay for a very reasonable price in the Sacramento area, then Cal Expo will probably work for you. read more

Traveling full-time in a 42-foot coach we have stayed here many times over the past two years. We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop any RV park from investing in doing WIFI properly and this park receives 5-stars for their great WIFI. This park has two areas, one is built on a small hill and most of those sites are not level, but they are all paved. That means no dust! The other area (in the back) is level, but very dusty because it's gravel. The front area does have some shade trees however the back area has no shade at all. We had AT&T phone service here and it worked great. Your satellite will work for sure if you stay in the back, in the middle. There's plenty of room to walk your dog here with a fenced grassy dog area. This park also receives 5-stars for it's great location...close to restaurants and shopping plus right next to the American River Bike Trail. read more

Would not stay here again for more than overnight. Large gravel lot with many spaces but they force everyone together in a row. No privacy or extra room. Have always parked my tow vehicle in the empty space next door if it was available. They came and told me to move it or be forced to pay $30.00 a day for the space. Internet works for 5 minutes and then drops off. Tried for three days to connect my Jefa-Tech internet repeater with no luck. Complained at the office and was told it was being looked at. It needs to be fixed, not stared at. No outbound mail service. Unfortunatly they are the only game in town and they know it. We saw the skunks but they thankfully decided not to bother us. The next time we come up here to visit family we will drive up and stay in a hotel. read more

RV parks near Sacramento...? What I look for is SAFETY, convenience and amenities. Having looked at other parks, we opted for Cal Expo RV Park. The location is easy to get to. Listed as being on Exposition Blvd on some sites but you make a right on Ethan Way off of Exposition . Ethan way takes you straight to the park. The park is very safe. Yes, a few homeless use the bike path running along the waterway behind the park but haven't had any problems at all. We did see several bicyclists , families and some runners. The dog park can use some lighting but is a secure park with gated entry. There is also a big gravel lot that is a part of the park where I saw a lot of larger RV's. Very clean and easy to maneuver. We stayed on the paved lot. Clean, private bathrooms with shower. I would definitely stay here again. The Expo is active so plenty to do, just check online for events. We don't have children so this park is ideal for our needs. read more

This a park that gets stars for staff and it is very clean. A few shade trees clean showers and bathrooms. Mostly asphalt or gravel. Food etc is nearby. This is the place to stay if you want to see the sites in Sacramento and the area. We were told to avoid July as there are a lot of events at the fairgrounds. Also during the fair in May. Will return next time in area. Nice people and good dog park. Not a park with remote sites in a forest. read more
