What I love about Cal Football and just Cal in general is the great sense of pride and camaraderie the students and community have for UC Berkeley and our Golden Bear football team. Our team may not be the best college football team, but we play with a lot of heart and soul. Football aside, the halftime shows with the Cal band are also fantastic, because they are one of the best college bands in the nation and are an absolute blast to watch. At this past game I went to the band played several Taylor Swift songs while forming different images like a broken heart and text acronyms like LOL and ILY. They even danced during some portion of the performance. The stadium food is not the greatest and not to mention is very overpriced, so I'd recommend eating beforehand and bringing a bottle of water with you to the game. The stadium seats aren't really comfortable either, so I'd recommend renting fold up cushion seats from the stadium to place on the bench and sit on. And if you're watching a day game, wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, and for night games, wear layers, a beanie, scarf, and gloves. Most important of all, don't forget to bring your Golden Bear fighting spirit! GO BEARS!

With the recent departure of its captain, who set the tone of the team since its founding, as well as other long-time paddler departures, the team is facing a significant transition. Tough challenges, such as the always difficult decisions of selecting crews, motivating and unifying large numbers of members with different backgrounds, and maintaining the difficult balance of fun and competition are formidable. Yet with change and challenge lies opportunities that will hopefully empower the DW spirit, which has been the hallmark of this team, to prevail. With more new and younger staff, you get a newfound source of energy that is refreshing and up-to-date on all the latest and greatest regimens to strengthen your conditioning and to avoid injuries on land and water. These include a variety of stretching exercises and tougher workout routines to improve your fitness as well as team-building games at picnics and bowling alleys. Having a younger club based in San Francisco enabled DW to fundraise over $2K from garage/yard sales. Finally, organization of trips, events, finances, and birthdays has improved with sweet treats from the team's talented new staff. Hopefully, all of this helps sustain the famous tradition of DW having the best food tent amongst all the teams given its cookbook, which was a signature fundraiser for the team. Regardless of these changes, DW is a great way to improve physical fitness and to socialize by working and having fun as a team. As a true team sport where your performance depends on everyone blending together in harmony, not on superstars, it's hard to paddle effectively as a team. Thus, DW offers a unique opportunity to develop these important skills on and off the water that you can leverage in other aspects of your life in the workplace and at home. Parking is ample in Harding Park except when the crew teams race and late in the season when corporate and novice teams need to practice for the annual San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival. (Coincidentally, a majority of DW volunteers to make this the most successful and largest dragon boat festival in the U.S. every year.) The ambiance can be sunny, but the weather is usually overcast, cold, damp and stinky due to bird poop. Rain or shine, there is practice given the DW mentality to paddle in anything except dense fog, lighting or hurricanes. This is what some would call having heart or paddling long and strong no matter what obstacles you face to make you a tougher warrior. As DW rebuilds, grows, adapts, and matures to a different beat of the drum, it will be interesting to see how this team develops, where it goes, and how it deals with the growing pains. The success of this team has come from a positive spirit and heart to sacrifice for the team from all walks of life and ages. So, come on out and seize the opportunity to join in on the fun and to help shape this team in order to achieve a new dream with a stream of victories on and off the water!

Originally purchased a Groupon deal for my daughter to attend here. We signed up for the 8 classes…read moreand once they ended decided to continue on. It's a great program for kids wanting to step up their basketball skills. The group size ranges, some weeks are larger than others, but the coaches always split them up depending on skill/experience and age. When you attend their 1.5 hour weekly class on Sundays, there will be plenty of: hand eye coordination, dribbling, shooting, passing and cardio drills. At the end of every class, my daughter is so beat! But, she has a good time and looks forward to attending knowing that she's getting better each time. All of the coaches are great in pushing your child to their ability and they always acknowledge it with praise. Great job coaches!

Afterwards, everyone usually go to Final Final for drinks. Go Not the Blue Ninjas!!!! We won one of our playoff games last night, it was incredible. Not bad, considering a 2-6 for the season. I think we have two more games, hopefully we win all. The umpires here are great! No need to two ball rule, boy / girl batting lineups, etc. Bring warm clothes, it can be freezing at times. A group of co-workers and I participated in the Bass Cartel league this year and, to be fair, we…read moreenjoyed the league up until our final playoff game. The location is great - Fort Scott is beautiful and the fields are well kept. Derrick Chu, the guy who runs Bass Cartel, was the umpire for our playoff game and either purposefully called the game in the opposing team's favor (we're pretty sure he was friends with them) or cannot keep score and will not admit fault. We keep a detailed scorebook (and can do simple math) so when we scored our winning run and all jumped in excitement you can imagine our confusion when the game kept going. We compared our scorebook to Derrick's, identified the two plays he missed and asked him to call to memory these two plays. We had nine players up to bat in this inning (which his scorebook agreed with) and one player left on base at the end of the at-bat. If you do the math, with three outs, that means we got five runs. The other team did not keep score so we could not compare to their book. Derrick chose not to work with us, kept mumbling that we only got four runs and asked us to leave the field. At the end of the day, it's a game and the league is meant to be fun, but when the league commissioner cannot keep score and will not take the time to hear you out and think logically in a playoff game, it says a lot about the quality of the league. There are so many other great leagues in SF, I highly recommend looking for one that is run more professionally. That is what we will be doing!. I joined Bass Cartel because I wanted to play COED, but I was pretty annoyed with how it all went…read moredown. The play was great, but I had a really difficult time with the refs and how things were dealt with. Derrick is great and really tries to make everything work well, but my experience was pretty frustrating. The last game of the season before playoffs, two team members walked in 3 minutes before starting time, according to two several different cell phone clocks (our games were ALWAYS starting late). When I arrived, the ref had already forced our team to forfeit, the clock had been running for 7 minutes already, and he refused to ref our game. This made us ineligible for the playoffs and our season ended on a scrimmage that wasn't even reffed. When I confronted the ref before the game to ask him why he made us forfeit, he started screaming at me and called me a liar. Big he said she said mess that was just really frustrating. I contacted Derrick and didn't receive any response after several attempts at some kind of resolution, so I requested that my team be given the equivalent of that games' worth of our fee back, because the ref didn't officiate and we didn't get to participate as agreed, or that we receive an apology from the ref. I didn't receive any response for quite some time, and eventually was told that they have to stand by the refs, and they couldn't give us a refund because they had already paid the ref fees (for the ref that didn't officiate?). They offered a $14 credit toward the next season for the five players who were there, but all of us were so annoyed by the ordeal that we chose not to use this league again. None of the leagues are great by any means, but you think they'd at least try to make an effort to make it fair and to maintain current players. Oh well. My money goes elsewhere now.

The atomsphere is very relaxed with people going out there and just to have fun with the right amount of competitive spirt. Softball takes place in the Presidio and they have a great core group of players and a good mix of new teams. They have approximately 25-35 softball teams playing during the season. The coed basketball is great and a lot more social than the past men's leagues I have played. Everyone is about high school ability Overall I recommend the club of its professional service and fun attitude!
