What can I say? I will forever be a Golden Bear! UC Berkeley is my alma mater so any opportunity I can come back to cheer on my team, you know I'll be there. What I love about Cal Football and just Cal in general is the great sense of pride and camaraderie the students and community have for UC Berkeley and our Golden Bear football team. Our team may not be the best college football team, but we play with a lot of heart and soul. Football aside, the halftime shows with the Cal band are also fantastic, because they are one of the best college bands in the nation and are an absolute blast to watch. At this past game I went to the band played several Taylor Swift songs while forming different images like a broken heart and text acronyms like LOL and ILY. They even danced during some portion of the performance. The stadium food is not the greatest and not to mention is very overpriced, so I'd recommend eating beforehand and bringing a bottle of water with you to the game. The stadium seats aren't really comfortable either, so I'd recommend renting fold up cushion seats from the stadium to place on the bench and sit on. And if you're watching a day game, wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, and for night games, wear layers, a beanie, scarf, and gloves. Terrible. UC Berkeley is one of the nation's premier public universities. Unfortunately, their team is one of the worst in the country. The fans talk a big game and talk even more smack. We had one of our guys' helmets get stolen by a fan. Listen, if your team is losing, don't take it out on us. It's very unsportsmanlike and is a bad reflection of how prestigious your school is. I'm a Trojan and work for the USC Band. We ALWAYS follow the protocols given by game management of stadiums we visit. This past weekend was senior recognition for Cal, and they recognized seniors before the game. Our protocol from USC is to play our team in when they run onto the field. Most collegiate bands play their fight song when their team enters the field....it's normal. Game management should know that. You should not have had the USC football team run onto the field during your presentation. They ended up blaming us....and it's definitely not our fault. I have a bunch of gripes about this place, including the march over and the student body...but it's not worth it. Even when they're team was decent a few years back the fans were still really crappy to us. Rivalry is one thing, but being a sore loser is another. Fight on Trojans! read more

That's right. I am a Golden Bear. Grrrrrrah! Even when they were terrible and had a season with a couple of wins when I was in college from '98-'03, I supported our team. Bottom line being that we are Cal fans no matter what, and in great times and in bad, they are our team. It is fun to be part of such a long standing tradition and know that anywhere in the world, if you sit to watch a Cal football game, you will have someone else on the stool next to you sit down and cheer with you at their alma mater. So my 5 stars go to the fact that being a Golden Bear football fan gave me some of the best memories of college. Filled with laughter, paw tatooes, blue and gold shirts and BBQ tailgates, and the opportunity to bond with people of all generations, Cal football is a tradition that I am proud to belong to. read more

I've been going to games since being in the cub club and a young kid. I've seen a lot of guys go the NFL out of Cal. I even got autographs back in the day from guys like Sean Dawkins and Russell White. What the heck is happening today against Oregon!!!??? They are getting spanked by a terrible Oregon team. Football season is my favorite season. And the Golden Bears are my heroes. There is truly no better day than waking up, shotgunning a few beers, walking around gorgeous Berkeley pilfering free booze from frat boys, partying in the Hotel Durant parking lot beer garden and climbing the hill to the most beautiful stadium in the country. I love CAL football. The stadium and the fans are so cool. The pagentry of the team entering the stadium. The awesome band. The Big FLAG waving on the field. The cheers. Tightwad Hill. Tailgates. Finding parking (Good Luck). Notice I'm not talking about the team. That is the only iffy party of the equation. Good and bad years. Good and bad players. Good and bad coaches. But no matter what I keep on listening on the radio. No matter what I keep watching the TV. I'm a hooked dreamer. Even after last years complete collapse I still hold out hope for the Bears to go to the Rose Bowl someday. But until then, I'll go. Get a coke at the Bair Lair, eat a dog at Top Dog. I do confess - I'm not a huge fan of organized sports but I couldn't say no to invitations from friends to attend games here with their discounted alumni tickets. It really was a fun experience to watch the games in person with people who could explain things to me - way more fun than watching anything like this on television! Way better people watching, too - and lots of fun to bring binoculars so you can check out the people on Tightwad Hill and look around the stadium. Bring a blanket, a raincoat and sunblock - conditions can change quickly! read more

I am a huge football nut ( not sure if anyone has figured that out) and this was my first college game. Surprising I know.. There are a few reasons I am not a huge fan of this particular stadium. 1) you have to walk ... far to get to there. We took BART and its probably 2-3 miles of walking to get to the actual stadium. Even if you park in town you will walk since they have no parking lot for the fans. I honestly do not mind walking but you do get points off for this .. I mean how do people who have disabilities make it? Much of the walking is uphill too so its just not friendly. 2) We were excited to find some front row seats in the end zone UNTIL we sat in them. The design is horrible! In order to get to the bathrooms or concession stands everyone has to walk past your seats so its CONSTANT .. I was constantly getting up and down to try and see plays! THEN they pick the tallest security guard to stand in front of us the entire game. We might as well have had a pole in the way. Three rows behind us were pissed this guy was standing there the entire game! I will never ever purchase front row seats there every again. I was pretty ticked at the flow of people and the tree ... Other then that , gotta love the college game day atmosphere but this review is for the stadium and I for one do not like it! read more

I have now handed down this tradition to my kids who are also die hard Bear fans. This Stadium ought to be torn down and replaced by a garden with lovely flowers, plants, trees, bushes, and various other horticulture together with a greenhouse and perhaps a tea house as well. Ponds and fountains would also be lovely, and much smaller sporting games might still be allowed, on a much smaller scale of course, such as cricket matches in the grass. Went to my first college football game here last night! Go CAL! (Went to UCSC where we have no football team haha... but I rep for my sister who's a golden bear!) The stadium is suuuper nice. The food was pretty yums albeit overpriced just like food at carnivals or Giants games. Sat in the bleacher area by the end goal but it wasn't too bad. The field was awesome and the whole stadium looked cool. Cal even won last night against UCLA, 43-17, WHADDUP! Pretty awesome. The student section was super spirited and the vibes last night were fun. Hella people last night but always felt like there was enough space for me. Wouldn't mind going again. read more

Dont bother going if you are wearing the other teams colors. .. When you get to the gate they come up with various arbitrary security measures to prevent you entering.(your bag has 2 straps) Then they proceeded to send you to the complete other side of the stadium to leave your bag. After you deposit your bag and try to enter the stadium you are now a " a security risk" because you tired to get in with your bag and they send you home. No arguing at this point as Berkley PD is fully backing the rent a cops no matter what they say. read more

Vs wash I really only go to sporting events with groups of co-workers, this was fun, the stadium is smaller than the big league stadiums, so it's get a cozier feel, fans are just as crazy though, Except when their team looses, then they leave early ;-) read more

I've always been a fan of Cal's football team. The team and people that support them always have high energy, play fair and have a great time. The stadium has recently become renovated which makes it even more exciting to go to games. Of course, the parking here is terrible and think of alternative ways to get here besides driving as you will probably end up walking. If you plan to attend a game, make sure to buy purchase tickets ahead of time because they do run out. Overall they are a great team, the play well together and they have awesome people to support them. Go to a college game if you haven't in the past or it has been awhile since you've been to one, I promise it will be a lot of fun! read more

I started going to the old Cal stadium 40 years ago with my Father. It was really old then. Horrible entry climbing up and around to get into the stadium. Cold drafty bathrooms and uncomfortable seats. The views from Tightwad hill weren't any worse on some days than from our seats. The new stadium sure shows what a lot of money and good design can bring to a university and teams. Now we just need a better season. Without Tedford next year has to be better. Football games at Cal's Memorial Stadium are as good as it gets. It is the most beautiful setting in all of american sports. Everyone needs to attend at least one game. Go to The Big Game (Cal vs. Stanford) at least once in your life. It is an american tradition. It is what is right with sports...Cal has an amazing band, great fans, beautiful stadium and a fantastic team. It is an incredible college atmosphere. Go Bears!! read more
