Our breakfast at this restaurant probably deterred us from having any Cantonese food for the rest of stay in Calgary. It's only one more day! I know. Many will ask why I would choose to eat Cantonese food in Chinatown. I usually would give the same advice too to visitors to Vancouver, too. However, when I saw all of the other half dozen dining parties being East Asians speaking either Cantonese and Mandarin and the place looking respectably clean, I had hope. I was wrong. While we were seated promptly and the menus came quickly, nobody came to take our orders until I flagged one of the 3 waitstaff down. All of them were just gathering by the counter talking to another worker making beverages behind the counter. The my were even looking around the restaurant but made no eye contact with patrons. 2 of them were engrossed in an argument. We both had the breakfast sets. My husband ordered the bolo bun with butter, turkey sausage patty and scrambled eggs and I had their congee of the day (chicken and mushroom) and rice rolls. Both sets came with beverage and we both had HK milk tea. Except for the HK milk tea, everything else was embarrassingly bad. The top of the bolo bun was soggy. My congee was bland and turned watery quickly. My rice rolls was dry and tough. The fact that they preset the lowest tipping % at 15% on the payment terminal was laughable. read more

This was the first HK style cafe I've been to in Canada and wow I've been to many in the States and this has got to be one of the top HK cafes outside of Asia I've eaten at. Portions are large, friendly staff, and the restaurant is clean. It's always the low expectation for a restaurant that catch you by surprise. We found this Cafe on Google since it was 10 min walk from our hotel. Little do we know, this is an authentic Hong Kong style Cafe (my fav)! Not only was the food great, it's really inexpensive! The family style 3 entrees + large homemade soup is only $58 CAN, which is about $43 USD. I also like that the servers are honest and funny. We wanted to order the Chilean Seabass in clay pot dish. She told us upfront that it will be 20 min to cook but will serve the soup right away so we can enjoy while we wait. It was definitely worth the wait. It was steaming hot and the sauce was so good. We enjoyed it with sweet & sour pork and chicken cutlet with instant noodles. The drinks are really good too. They have the coffee/milk tea combo and my all time favorite - Ice tea with lemon. It's the way they make the tea. Brought back so many memories living in Hong Kong. Highly recommend! We are looking forward to coming back for another wonderful dinner before we head home. read more

There aren't many Hong Kong cafes around where we live so whenever we visit the area, we always make a stop. It was quite busy when we came in for lunch, but luckily didn't have to wait for a seat. They provided large cups of hot teas, which we sipped on while combing through the large menu and narrowing down what we wanted to eat: - Borscht soup with garlic bread: The soup was okay, not really my favorite. It was a little too sweet but also kind of spicy. The garlic bread was absolutely delicious- really fluffy and so much yummy garlic butter! - Assorted beef tripe noodles in soup: My dad really enjoyed this dish because he doesn't get to eat beef tripe that often. There was a lot of assorted tripe - Beef flank noodles in clear soup: My brother wanted something a bit lighter for lunch and wanted a clear noodle soup. This was the perfect dish and the beef was very tender - Shrimp dumpling and noodles in in soup: This tastes very similar to wonton noodles... but bigger. Even though it says shrimp dumpling, the wrapping is more similar to wontons that dumplings. However they were huge and had so much shrimp, I really enjoyed it! On our way back from Banff, we drove through Calgary and were craving something Asian. The restaurant was clean and had ample indoor (only) seating for small to large (up to 6) people groups. Bathroom was by the entrance with a code lock. Decided to come back here for lunch after previously dining here for dinner on two other occasions. The best way to describe this place is a bustling, loud Hong Kong style cafe that offers some western breakfast and lunch items such as one would find in San Francisco's Chinatown. Ordered the beef chow fun with bean sprouts which takes approximately 15 minutes to prepare. Service standards are typical for this type of restaurant catering to office workers nearby along with locals. The guy next to me was watching a video from his iPhone with the volume cranked up. "Dude - can you say earbuds!" They have several different menus and Specials. Portion sizes have been more than adequate as I had previously ordered the Singapore vermicelli dish in the past and todays Chow Fun was no exception. 3.5 stars overall with my server being abrupt when I asked a question if they have sriracha sauce which is heavier in texture when jacking up the flavor to any Chinese fried noodle or won ton soup dish compared to the chili oil which is offered table side along with soy sauce and vinegar. One of my favourite dishes at Calgary Court Restaurant is the Sliced Fishcake Noodle Soup ($10.50). I love this soup! Big portion and generous with unique ingredients like seaweed, flounder flakes, pickled vegetables and fresh rice flat noodles (ho fun). I like that the soup is served very hot. Nothing worse than a bowl of lukewarm noods. My other go to dish is the Hunan Tender Beef Curry and Rice. Very rich and flavourful curry. My friend introduced me to this place and showed me the ropes. Most items were from the tea time selection. 1) homemade tea - hof and cold. Both delish. . 2) shrimp wonton soup - sooo good and comes with noodles, which was nee for me. . 3) Carbonara seafood noodles - good, but for those who don't like mixed seafood. . 4) sirloin platter with fries, veggies, and sweet spaghetti - random but so good. Great place for good Cantonese food in Calgary. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and it was quite busy. Walk-ins are welcomed, and reservations can be made as well. We were given several menus. The big menu had your giant list of dishes for a-la-carte orders, while several other menus had fixed price combos and individual portions order. This night, our group of four, ordered from the combo menu which include one main large dish, which we got the salt baked chicken, and two small dishes, the fried tofu with shrimp and peppers and the beef sautéed with onions and ginger. Every dish was well seasoned and done with care. We also ordered a large hot and sour soup to share. This soup wasn't your regular Chinese takeout soup, it was much better with fresh bamboo shoots! My aunt and I originally wanted to go to the restaurant next door but they were closed between lunch and dinner. We came during afternoon tea (starting at 2:30 pm) and ordered from that menu. We were seated quickly but it seems as though the wait staff forgot about since since it was kinda busy. We flagged down a waitress for menus and drinks. The food came fairly quick. It would've been better if there were a couple more fish balls. My pork chop in a pineapple bun arrived a bit after the noodles. The poor bun was squished so bad in order to cut it in half. You could see the finger indents. It looked like a hamburger with a pineapple bun instead of a regular bun complete with lettuce and tomato; not what I was expecting. In terms of taste, the pork chop tasted good. The sweetness of the pineapple bun paired with the saltiness of the pork was a bit strange for me. Fantastic meal I can't wait to repeat. I don't know what to say except it was a terrific meal. I went with my son and when we walked in you felt like you were in some other place than downtown Chinatown Calgary. We ordered classics consisting of shrimp dumplings in noodle soup, pork and black egg congee and seafood on hot plate. The congee came bubbling hot, like lava. The hot plate came sizzling. The dumplings in the noodle soup were simply enormous and more than a single bite, super delicious. The price was really fair too considering how good it was. My only complaint was that it took forever to get parking in that area. Also, as we were eating the Restauraunt was filling up with a line up which made me uncomfortable eating slowly. Our party mostly ordered the noodle soup breakfast that cost around $8 for a bowl of noodles, vegetables, choice of meat, garlic toast and a drink. My noodles were just okay tastings. The soup base was very bland and I had to rely heavily on the hot sauce for flavour. I also felt like the noodle portion was very small so I felt really hungry after eating it. I've only gone to Calgary Court for late night eats/cravings so I can't comment on how it is during normal hours. It's always packed on weekends as it's only one of a few places that stay open late (1:00am Friday and Saturday). I didn't realize it was part of the Taste of Asia group until we were given a takeout bag (they own T.Pot and several other Asian restaurants in town). They've got multiple menus to choose from but you can only order from some of them depending on what time it is. My advice is stick with the HK and Chinese options. We saw several tables ordering HK cafe food (such as the baked rice/spaghetti dishes). - Vietnamese lemon grass beef fried clear noodles (#38i) ($12.99) - not good. I'm not even sure how this is a Vietnamese dish. Noodles did not have a good chew and taste was mundane. A sad, sad dish. Don't make our mistake, get something else. - Singapore style fried vermicelli (spicy) (#25i) ($13.50) - we've ordered this multiple times and it's been solid every time (except once when they put way too much spice powder). Most recent trip was back to normal. Comes with onions, sliced carrots, bean sprouts and shrimp. - Stir-fried gai lan with garlic (#16h) ($12.95) - really garlicky and the gai lan is perfectly cooked. Hong Kong style fusion cafés are my comfort food. As someone from Southern California, I grew up on this style of food combining quick, simple, but flavorful Chinese dishes with more "western" ingredients and techniques. These cafes are become rarer in SoCal, so I was glad to find Calgary Court during our recent trip to Canada. I love the variety of what you can order. Anything from chow fun to pork chop rice, you can find it. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable; both very important things to me. We ordered the fried beef chow mein. The thin egg noodles were deep fried well, allowing the gravy to soften them up. We also ordered fish with cream corn sauce over rice, which was also really good. One unique thing (at least to me) is the availability of the "street cart" soup noodle. There is an option to order soup noodles that you can customize with broth type, noodles, and toppings. read more

Love the breakfast lunch and dinner here. This restaurant seem like never sleep. They start at 8 am in the morning till late night. We were here lunch and breakfast. The breakfast is Hong Kong Style morning call. We actually selected the Southeast Asia cuisine in the lunch time. We have the charsiew (BBQ) pork rice, hainanese chicken and the Traditional Hong Kong Style Spicy Noodle Soup. The rice dice come with soup of your choice and dessert. Not bad at all. The bbq was good marinate. It is juicy and great taste. The hainanese chicken may need some more work. However, the star is the traditional noodle. Usually we go to Sun Bbq for HK style breakfast but it was not open for some reason. However, I do know Calgary Court and Sun BBQ are under the same manager and another restaurant in the north (correct if i am wrong Yelpers). Today, i ordered their special congee (peanuts & dry scallop), with soy sauce fried noodle, and hot milk tea. Food came out hot and satisfying. Service today was pretty good as it was not too busy. Surprisingly good HK style western food in the heart of Calgary. Late hours, and good food were the highlights. The portuguese chicken rice and the tomato sauce pork chop on rice were both very good. The tomato sauce was thick and creamy and mixed well with the cheese and rice. The portion sizes were large and we took some home for another meal. It took some time for the food to come out, but it's understandable since these were all baked dishes (and they told us in advance too). There's lots of street parking nearby, but it might be hard depending on how busy it is. They were very busy, even at midnight. They gave us a bunch of menus, including ones that didn't apply for the time that we showed up at (why bother giving it to us at all!?). Overall, we enjoyed eating here, and found it pretty good even by Toronto standards. read more
