I literally stumbled across this place while Googling dim sum restaurants in the city. Unfortunately, our favourite dim sum restaurants in Calgary have gone downhill, and the quality just isn't the same as it used to be. I came across Golden Sand on Google, looked through the menu, and decided I wanted to give a new restaurant a try. The quality is great by Calgary standards, and they have a decent selection of dishes. My personal favourite is the rice rolls, particularly the beef and egg rice roll. The service is great too. Apparently, they opened during COVID, so they're still relatively new. I can now say that this is our favourite dim sum restaurant in the city! Hopefully, they'll continue to maintain the quality of their food. We'll definitely be back and I'd even like to try dinner there someday! read more

Tried out Golden Sands Chinese Restaurant for dim sum on a packed weekend. Luckily, we were able to make same day reservations. Came here for dinner with my parents and my family. This was the 2nd time we tried to eat here - it was a full house last time and so this time I had made reservations. It was again another packed house - all tables in use; I think a wedding reception or something on one side and baby shower on the other. It was quite lively and loud but could still (barely) hold a conversation. Despite all that service was great and food was hot and tasty. They have their own parking lot with lots of spaces. Street parking if needed as well. Food was really good. We started with the Fish Maw and Crab soup. If you have read any of my reviews that soup is a family favourite. It was very flavourful - no leftovers. We also tried the Salt n Pepper squid - it wasn't stringy and was really good as well. Next was Peking Style porkchop which is my favourite - it was really good. Family likes steamed fish so got the Ling Cod - it was good but I think the cut was near the end so had lots of bones. I suggest asking for a different cut next time. My daughter loves egg plant so go the Egg Plant hot put - it had a kick to it which was nice. Lastly, we ordered the Beef Flat noodle which was also really good. It was great to finally come here and it was really good experience. Just another great local, very authentic Chinese vittles joint up here in Calgary. We always look forward to many family-style dinners while visiting, and this place Most definitely did not disappoint. After 5 days of camping up in BC, we ate like Vikings with tapeworms...it was daringly violent I should add. After 11 courses, and a appropriately ending of warm rice pudding (I'm always confused what yo call this stuff), we were kindly rolled out to our vehicles after our nearly $600 bill ($38.49 US...:p ) - it was a most delightful evening. One of my favorite dim sum spots in Calgary! We recently discovered this place a couple years ago and come back every year we visit. It's easy to order, food comes out quickly, not too cramped inside, and friendly service. The servings are quite generous for dim sum, which is a nice perk. While there is a certain beauty to dim sum carts, there is something to be said for the convenience and ease of ordering on a sheet of paper. It's easier to see what options are available, and you don't have to worry about flagging down a cart in order to get your har gow. Highly recommend! Private parking lot. read more

We had the worst experience at Golden Sands Chinese Restaurant in Calgary. The three sided BBQ pork bun was tough and unpleasant. Additionally, the Three Fried Stuffed Treasures my sister-in-law ordered wasn't what we expected at all; instead of a dim sum dish, it came as an entrée with brown gravy on top. The female server in red, who had short hair and a mole on her lip, had such a poor attitude that it completely ruined the experience. Every time we asked for a hot water refill or condiments, she seemed irritated and told us to wait. When we ordered egg tarts halfway through our meal, we waited 10 minutes before asking for an update. Instead of providing one, the server blamed us, saying we'd added it after the initial order, which supposedly confused the kitchen. After "checking," she returned and told us we'd have to wait another 10 minutes, refusing to cancel the order and insisting we wait--only for the tarts to arrive 15 minutes later. It took over half an hour for them to come out, with five orders at once, as they apparently waited to fill the oven. While we understood the delay, her attitude was so off-putting that we declined to accept them. To make things worse, this happened to be my last get-together with my sister-in-law. She passed away 2 weeks later. This restaurant ruined our final moments together, and we'll be sure to warn our friends not to visit. read more

Authentic tasting dim sum spot! We came on a Sunday for brunch and didn't experience a wait. Note, the parking lot is small and quite packed but not representative of the restaurant - there were several open tables. We ordered numerous savory dishes including the ginger scallion lobster (by weight). All of the dishes were cooked well, tasted real, and came out timely. You also have several tea choices including green, chrysanthemum, oolong, and more. The staff was pleasant and efficient as well. read more

3.5 Came here for a quick stop in Calgary for Dim sum and ended up here. My friend and I got a multitude of dishes and everything was mostly pretty decent. Turnip cake was real solid. Fried bean curd and siu mai also good. Chicken feet, spare rib, and flat shrimp noodle were just meh. Didn't think true xlb was worth it Basically, my takeaway from this place was that it hits a lot of popular dim sum dishes and is decent enough, but I'm sure there's some place that has even better dim sum given the Asian population read more

Authentic Chinese food The best fish was the steamed chickens! They have two different kinds and both are awesome!

Amazing Dim Sum! My nephew and his girlfriend invited to try their favorite place out while I was in town. I told them that I am ruined for life because everything tasted amazing! It was only my second time ever having Dim Sum, what a wonderful second experience! Anyhow, we ordered sticky rice. It was wrapped in lotus leaf, the rice was mushy on purpose , inside of it was some pork meat and eggs, extremely flavorful. We enjoyed some steamed bbq pork buns, tripe, and a light & fluffy spice cake. One of the things that was even more interesting taste beyond the tripe was the what looked like giant carrots. These had a crispy coating on the outside but on the inside was a purée of carrots and on the inside of that was ground meat. I really liked all of it! Then we tried these egg rolls that had a light gravy on it, it also had a lovely taste. The service was timely and good. The dining room was packed full of people, so get there early and expect to wait a bit. Good things come to those who wait, especially here! Next time I visit Calgary I will definitely be coming back to enjoy another meal here. read more

I'm a recent transplant from Toronto where there are many excellent dim sum places, and Golden Sands has become one of my favourites in Calgary. Great menu selections and delicious food. Service is fast and helpful. Room is small by dim sum standards and usually busy. Parking lot accommodates lots of customers. Good choice for dim sum. read more

This is one of the best dim sum restaurants I have dined in and I'm from Vancouver! Very decent portion sizing for the price. I would say the truffle oil scalloped shrimp dim sum was interesting to try as I have not seen that on a menu before. In our group was four adults and one child and for under $100 we left with our bellies full and stuffed! They have probably all of the traditional dim sum you can ask for including haw gow (crystal prawn dumplings), sui Mai (pork dumplings), bean curd dumplings, chicken feet etc. They even have the deep friend minced pork dumplings which were yummy-this place makes theirs to look like carrots which was cute. It was somewhat out of the way but certainly worth the drive. read more

How come there aren't any reviews posted yet? Odd In any event have tried this place for supper probably 5 times and takeout once. And dim sum twice. It may be what we have ordered but it seems like it is a bit inconsistent ranging from decent to really good. Applies to both supper and dim sum. We ordered the special Chinese menu version of two person dinner twice. Once was superb. Next time was decent. On other times have ordered individual dishes ( same ones for the most part) and again one time it was delicious and the other just average. Similar for dim sum, first time was just decent. Second time was really good. My extended family also had the same experience. So don't know if it is the good chef bad chef thing or the restaurant was busier and the kitchen had to sacrifice and resulted in average tasting days. But when they are on their game the food is probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. In any event the staff are very pleasant and that has been consistent each time we have gone. Will have to keep trying to see what happens. I'll give them a four for now. But really is a 3.5 at times and 4.5 on other times. read more

Went here due to a review in the herald. Ordered the wonton soup, fried rice with shrimp & scallops, and beef with gai lan. The food was basically bland. Had to ask for salt&pepper and even then I barely could taste anything. Plus I found it to be pricey. read more

This was unfortunately the worst meal i've ever had eating out at any restaurant in my life. We ordered 7 options of DimSum, The steamed Bbq Pork bun had four dime sized pieces of pork inside with a baby amount of sauce, the curried cuddle fish had absolutely zero flavour. The sticky rice rolls, the ones wrapped in the leaf were also tasteless, with the meat inside also being very minimal. The Steamed spare ribs with Golden Sauce had zero meat on the bones, only gristle and fat and they forgot the golden garlic so they were essentially just covered in water, these were inedible. The last thing we had was the beef tendon and tripe 5 pieces, this was so horrible that we had to notify the staff the rest of the food we ordered that hadn't come yet we no longer wanted as this ruined our appetite. We had to spit it out. Absolutely no flavour whatsoever, and the consistency was appalling. The entire experience was 0/10. I should have taken pictures, BEWARE. The restaurant was full so I don't understand how the food could have been so disappointing. I will never return. read more
