Today was my first time in and Mien did a fantastic job of providing long layers for my wavy hair. The woman before me had gorgeous long, straight hair that I watched Mien trim, so I knew I was in good hands. Loved coming by here for my haircut! The salon workers were willing to take me in an hour before closing despite there already being clients in line. They were very on top of managing clients and worked fast to get things done while also ensuring customers received the best care possible. This place is right by Walmart and a bunch of other businesses so there is usually no problem finding parking nearby. I got my long hair cut with layers and curtain bangs for $25! Would recommend if you're looking for an affordable place to cut your hair! You will be in good hands :)! read more

My husband used to cut hair when he was in the USN decades ago and he's happy with his cut every time. We don't make appointments. We have always been walk - ins. We combine our trip to Cali with shopping at the nearby WalMart or Home Depot. We are moving to Georgia the end of March and will have to find a new hair salon. It looks like a kid cut some of my hair it's so bad. I just happened to check this place out because I came for noodles next door and they were closed. My hair was in dire need of a cut from all the split ends. They took walk-ins. And took me pretty quick. At first I was scared because all I saw was men. Annie took me and assured me they get women. I felt better. She asked me through out how I wanted my hair cut and how I usually get it cut. She is very nice, friendly and patient. She even double checked that the length is ok. Been coming here since 2006 every 2 to 3 weeks consistently. Henry's been cutting my hair and I've never been dissatisfied. Except, when he goes on vacation once a year, becuz he isnt there :-( He also cuts my 2 younger boys hair as well, or his wife, whoever isn't busy. But they are all great hairstylist here in my opinion. I like their consistency with not being able to make an appointment. You just basically walk in write your name down on sign in sheet along with the persons name you want cutting your hair, and it's that simple! As a guy, I'm not a huge fan of spending close to $20 to get my hair cut. These guys charge half that and do just as good of a job, if not better. They do a MUCH better job on my 6yo son's hair than the "other place" too. Great and friendly staff. They are fairly meticulous so I'm in the chair a little longer, but I don't mind. I love getting my hair cut at Cali Hair Cuts! They are super friendly and I always get a clean, consistent cut at a great price. Everyone in the shop does a great job and Henry is like a local celebrity. Check in always goes well. More often than not we are taken to a chair right away. If there is ever a wait, we write our names down, they occasionally have appointments to take first but they always get to the list fast. My kids (5 and 7 years) have been going here for years and they love it too. The staff is great with the kids and there is always a dum dum waiting for them after their cut. Arrived at Cali Hair Cut 10 minutes to 9:30 when a guy walks in to get a hair cut. I went in at 9:30 and was not greeted with a hello, signed in and was waiting. The phone ring and when the worker answered the phone he said that they were short handed today and were not doing any appointments today only walk-ins. The phone rang 4 more times and the worker gave all the callers the same answer, no appointments only walk-ins. At 9:40 a lady walked in and signed in and had a seat. Another worker came out from the back and spoke in a different language ( Korean) and then the worker took the lady customer. At 9:55 a guy came in wearing Contra Costa County Fire clothing walked up and was taken after the first guy who was getting his hear cut was finished. I was told I would be next but couldn't to the life of me understand why I was getting passed up when the worker said that there was no appointments today and only walk-ins. A mother was in with her adult child with disabilities, and when they were going to leave because of the line the woman with disabilities struggled, screaming and throwing a temper tantrum. After moving to Martinez several years ago, I had a hard time finding a good place for a haircut until I found Cali Hair Cut. The team here is really friendly and they do a great job. I've had my hair cut by all of the staff at one point or another but have made it a point to schedule with Henry every time. I actually think Henry does better work than some of the people I've gone to in SF. Henry started to take appointments recently which has been helpful to avoid a long wait; which would have still been worth it. My last visit here was HORRIBLE! I got the barber named Annie, and she was so rude to me. I would ask her "What do you think would look good on the top if I get a 1 on the sides?" THE LADY SAYS "I don't know. IT'S YOUR HAIR!" in a very rude tone. Like come on, can't I just get some friendly suggestions? seriously? But naw, that's not even the worst part. While she was giving me my cut, she was literally DRILLING the electric shaver into my head. It hurt SO BAD! Lady, I'm not some piece of wood that you could just carve at with intense force. After that, she didn't even talk to me at the register! Not even a thank you, or have a nice day. She just took my card, swiped it, and gave me a pen to sign the receipt; all without saying a word. These folks give a fairly good deal *for the money.* If basic is what you need, then Cali Hair Cut is absolutely the right place for you. A basic haircut runs around $12. Their customer service sensibilities need a LOT of improvement. They get a B- for hair cutting competence, but an F- for customer service. If you drop in and have time to wait, then it works well. (Think of Southwest Airline's cattle call at the boarding gate.) If you have an appointment with a particular person, then they are not very good about keeping their commitments. Sometimes the person is there as promised, and sometimes not. Also on the downside, if you are a female and have curly hair, my wife (who has curly hair) says "don't take chances- stick with the tried & true." So straight hair only I guess is the deal? Both Henry & his wife "Quin" (Le Nguyen) are able at their craft. Quin has been barbering my hair since for quite a while. I followed her from her original location on Contra Costa Blvd in Gregory Village where she subcontracted to her new location next to Walmart in Martinez which her family owns outright. What you get for your money is a basic, competent haircut which is a good value- about 1/4th the price of a similar cut from a stylist. If what you want is something on the very high end, then keep looking or stick to your current stylist. You won't pay $200 but you won't get a $200 style either.... With Henry & Quin, think basic Hyundai rather than fancy Lexus. If basic is what you need, then Cali Hair Cut is absolutely the right place for you. read more
