What a cute little campground. We didn't get to visit the ghost town as we were just passing through. Staff we spoke to on the phone and in the camp were all friendly. The bathrooms and grounds were clean. If you are passing through Barstow, it's a great place to stop.

We had so much fun last year for the Halloween festivities. We explored the mining caves, the cemetery and the ghost town. Most of the RVs were decorated for Halloween. The town had lots of fun things to do. I want to go back every year but they sell out within minutes. The only thing that could've been better was the haunted ghost train ride...there is potential to add more props etc. That part wasn't very exciting but for small children, it'll suffice.

WE STAYED IN THE MINI BUNKHOUSE FOR HALLOWEEN! This is a great area for families. The Ghost Town itself is small but has a ton of little shops and things to see. This is not a true Ghost Town. 3 of the original buildings remain and are in use. There is a train ride, a real silver mine to walk through, a mystery house, gold panning, and a few other little activities. It gives "old western, Knotts Berry Farm" because it was purchased by the franchise. The staff were very kind and very willing to tell you about the history of Calico. While as adults we may have found some parts "cheesy" our 5 and 2 year old LOVED EVERYTHING. Calico is also VERY dog friendly. Our Golden Retriever was allowed in all the shops and all the rides, including the mine and the train! For the mini bunkhouse itself, we were pretty nervous to check in since we couldn't find pictures or reviews ANYWHERE (which is why I'm trying to be as detailed as possible. The mini was great. If you're expecting luxury and a nice aesthetic, probably best to find a hotel. BRING EVERYTHING! Basically like you are camping. They have toilet paper, brooms, and paper towels. Other than that, it really depends on what the previous guests left. So bring your blankets, pillows, towels, soaps, and plates/utensils. There was one pan and some tongs in the drawers when we arrived, which worked for us. Again PACK LIKE YOURE CAMPING! You will have heat/ac, running water, and electricity. There are two twin bunk beds and a futon which turns into a full/double, so 6 people total. The mattresses are more like cot pads, so if you have a bad back (like us) maybe bring an air mattress or topper. Either way, it's not unbearable. Outside you have a nice big fire pit and a separate grill. It's very peaceful at night with the occasional ATV/dirt bike passing by up the hill. Remember, people camp here for the OHV area. All together, for what it is, I give Calico five stars. It's a great little area to hang out with family and friends. If you stay in the cabins or bunk houses, admission to the ghost town is FREE! *side note, to the group that stayed before us that trashed the place, shame on you. Not only did it cause us to have to check in late (which whatever, we just went and explored the Ghost Town) but the staff were scrambling to clean up the disaster you left. That's how you get cool places like this to tighten up their rules, or worse, closed. Do better.*

The kids loved this small ride into the mines.

We went on a perfect weekend. It was warm but had a great breeze. We stayed in the mini bunk house. The small town was filled with history for everyone to enjoy. Too many convenient stores to talk about. We had pizza, candy, sweets, cold beer, etc while walking through the town. It was a perfect weekend.

Would have to step over neighbors hoses to walk down side of our rv in our spot.

We had site B4 fortunately we have a small rv with door on back of unit. You could not walk down either side of our site. Both sides had yellow poles and utilities. If our door was on the side we'd have been stepping out over neighbors sewer hose and ducking to not hit their slide. Site was not level at all. Which was no biggie for us we come prepared. Picnic table was a joke it was all warped. B4 should NOT be a camp site. Bathrooms were not clean. All toilet seats were nasty, no soap for washing hands. Trash was all over the camp ground. No rules were being enforced. Atvs, (Atvs all over camp ground and up at the ghost town.) unleashed dogs, swimming pools at rvs?! (One up hill from us dumped pool and flooded 3 sites) Neighbor checked in at 11pm. Camp fires till midnight. We left camp ground one time to run errand and had to sit in a 40 minute line to get back In. If you camp here don't leave, there is no line for campers already checked in. It's one line that is for Ghost town and camp ground entrance. We have camped here since 2006 and boy has it gone down hill over the years.

Two stars for the camp grounds. Five stars for the Ghost Town. My husband and I spent two days here with our two standard poodles (not the ideal place for this type of dog). This place is not my preferred type of camp ground but my husband was completely content. We stayed in site B1. It was perfectly level and we had full hook ups. Our Directv worked but we had to use our own data for internet. There is a tree in the front that might get in the way for someone new to parking. The place is nothing but dirt, rock and uneven pavement. But what do you expect for a place in the middle of the desert? The C area seems to be in better condition with a newer paved street but there are no hook ups. The bathrooms are really dusty with no soap but they do have a lot of toilet paper. It seems like A23 is the best site. It's a larger pull through site and you have access to a small culda sac where you can park extra cars and bikes. Visiting Calico Ghost town was pretty special. Dogs are allowed in every single place except the sweet shop and in the food place at the back of the town. All the workers are extremely friendly especially the guy working at the saloon. We spent a good four hours there. You should do the train ride and the mine tour. Everything was interesting!

A very nice ghost town to walk around on a weekend or any day, it's a nice area with lots of old buildings and shops . You can go inside older buildings and look at the history on display . There are many things to do with gift shops , restaurants, ice cream and coffee shops .

This place was a real find! We were trying to get out of an incredible windstorm. Our RV was literally swaying on I-15. We had planned on visiting the ghost town for my daughter, but the campground was even BETTER! Not only is it near the ghost town (and includes entrance fees!), it was in a well-protected canyon so that the windstorm never took us over again. We enjoyed the ghost town and the restaurants and shops (who knew?! What a deal!), and at camp at night, we enjoyed the stars and the hiking. The sunrise was incredible and you get a great view of the valley floor. It definitely was a gem of a place. Perfect for families with young adventurers, and people who hate exposed windy areas. ;) PS. FULL HOOK-UPS! Yay for happy rv campers. :)

Founded in 1881 during the silver mining boom, the town prospered for over a decade before declining when silver prices collapsed. By 1907, most residents had left, and Calico was eventually restored and transformed into the county-operated attraction known today as Calico Ghost Town.   Situated just off Interstate 15, about 3 miles from both Barstow and Yermo, Calico has become a popular stop for travelers exploring Southern California or driving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. We visited in February 2026 during our trip to Las Vegas and were impressed by the dramatic desert scenery, unique rock formations, and panoramic views from the surrounding hills.   Today, visitors from around the world come to experience the atmosphere of an authentic Old West mining town. The park offers a variety of amenities, including RV and group camping, cabins and bunkhouses, mountain biking trails, off-road vehicle areas, shops, and restaurants. Throughout the year, Calico hosts several special events such as Civil War reenactments, the Spring Festival with Americana music, Calico Days celebrations featuring burro races and mining-themed activities, and the popular Halloween Ghost Haunt in October.   Only minutes from Interstate 15 and a short drive north of Barstow, Calico Ghost Town makes an enjoyable roadside stop for food, shopping, sightseeing, and a glimpse into California's mining history. However, I would recommend visiting Calico Ghost Town during the spring or winter months rather than in the summer, when desert temperatures can become extremely hot and less comfortable for exploring the outdoor attractions and surrounding hills.

Yes its an OLD run down ghost town but it truely feels OLD and run down now. Trash everywhere. Spiderwebs and dust everywhere. Its not the Calico look, its literally no one cleaning around here. It looks so unclean everywhere we went. Also...I dont feel many workers are in Character anymore. I miss that. If they are even dressed up they are just sitting around on their phones or talking to each ither. Zero interaction. Zero immersion... just so disappointed. CAMPING - The camping is very good for what it is. This place is set up for "Dry-Camping" and it's great. This location is run by the BLM and it's actually really nice. Each camp site has a table and a fire pit along with a structure that will provide shade. RESTROOMS & SHOWERS - The restrooms look really nice from the outside, new building and the construction is nice however don't let that fool you. There are no showers and the toilets are ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Dirty, smelly and full of bugs. If you have to go potty use your own rig or go out in the desert. THINGS TO DO - Depending on the weather because it gets really hot here and it gets really cold herww we. We took walks and explored the local train tracks. There are two very old train bridges right near the campsite and we watched the trains go by a dozen times each day. We also went down and watched all the trucks cross the river. The campsite is located near the end of the Old Mojave Trail so lots of 4 wheel drive keeps and trucks come out of the canyon and cross the river. And last but nit least we explored Afton Canyon and the old Mojave Trial. We actually went and visited the Lava Tubes, the Mail Box, The Travelers Monument and the old train station out on Cima Road. OTHER CAMPERS - We have never seen any other campers other then a guy that took a nap in his car. CUSTOMER SERVICE - There really isn't any customer service. You drop your cash in a metal box and that's it. We did watch the video and then printed the fire-pit permit so I guess someone might stop in and ask for it but we never saw anyone that worked for the campsite or the BLM. OVERALL "5 STARS" At the end of the day this is a really nice BLM park and it's a great place to camp as long as your self contained. The train tracks are very close to the campsite and it's really fun listening to them go back and forth. Lots of wildlife so keep an eye on your puppies and Afton Canyon is beautiful. WARNING!! The road in and out of the campsite is usually maintained and is passionless if your driving a Class A, Class C and or if your pulling a 5th wheel or bumper trailer. We were in a 31' Toy Hauler and had 4WD so we were fine. If it was raining I think the trip out might be challenging so make sure your keep in eye on the weather.

So make sure to bring your own water! This time around downfall is the electrical plugs in both of the restrooms, weren't working the 2 nights stay we were there.
