I didn't know how to use the kiosk, but the really nice security guard helped me he showed me how to change my settings. And helped me scan the QR code. The process was fast and easy. I waited in the room. They called my number. I went up to the desk then they tell you to leave your phone number and they put you in a queue and you leave and they give you a phone call well they gave me a phone call within 30 minutes. I had already gotten home and resolved my issue. They've really stepped it up. It was a smooth transaction. And I didn't have to wait outside a long time either.

The staff person approached me to find out what I needed. I had the necessary info/documents, so she advised me to place the package in the drop box. She explained when the staff person(s) would pick up the drop box contents. Needless to say I was in and out of the place in about 5 minutes. I was so impressed with the personable customer service this staff person provided to me. About a few days later I received an approved document in the mail. Based on the date/time stamped on the envelope and documents, my package was worked on and completed the same day I dropped it off in person. Kudos to the staff person that worked on and completed it so quickly. The staff in this office are professional, personable and very efficient! I paid my LLC taxes for 2023 and 2024. Not only did they cash the check without recording it, they kept sending accruing penalty charges. I sent a letter with photocopied evidence of the check and proof they had cashed it. I heard nothing until another letter arrived with even more penalties. What was originally an $800 charge became $1,350. Meanwhile, billionaires find loopholes and pay nothing. Musk's or Bezos' contribution: zero. Yet my alleged nonpayment of $800 is what's keeping the government from running efficiently and their doors open? I refused to pay the escalated $1,350 since paying didn't work out the first time. The only way forward was to argue my case with my foot in the door while City Hall tried to slam it in my face. After the third delinquency notice, I sent a fax. A fax. The FTB doesn't have email - probably because that would set the expectation of a timely response, and "timely" contradicts everything about how our government operates. I understand that the boomers are refusing to retire even as they slow down physically. But do they really have to take everyone and everything else down with them? No response for the fax. No surprise there. Another penalty notice arrives in my mailbox. Detail: because now that every extension of the Fed has had severe budget cuts, the USPS now operates more slowly. So every time I get these deadline letters, I have maybe two days of buffering room before that due date. So I called the FTB. I had a day off that I was going to use getting a haircut. Instead I decided to kill two birds with one stone: call the FTB first and then yank my hair out in frustration, voiding the need to go to an actual Barber. I redact wat I said earlier: maybe the government can inspire efficiency. On the call, my projected seven minute wait became half an hour. I had the wherewithal to request a callback in case we got disconnected. Half an hour in, we got cut off. Funny how that only happens with civil servants who are clearly trying to escape culpability. The issue doesn't get resolved because that would require competency, which these days is as rare as integrity. They transfer me to a specific business entity line. The automated voice says it's too busy to take my call. It hands up on me. No wait time, just get lost. I suspect this is by design: if every call gets an automated hang-up, the queue is always zero, which means no service staff is needed. That kind of circular logic belongs in a Lewis Carroll novel. The busy line redirects me to my business entity portal - where none of my login information is recognized. Strange, given they have enough of my information to keep billing me for payments already made. So to reset the portal I have to call a number. Right. Because at this point I have tremendous faith in calling any FTB line for a resolution. I finally get on a call with some woman who's name I should have written down. Oh well - hindsight. She berates me for raising my voice with her because obviously that's the biggest problem here: my inability to modulate. Not their incompetence and laziness - me yelling. Forget the reasons why I'm yelling. I'm the one at fault even though I pay for these idiots' salary. Imagine a boss who has to take flack from their employees even though they work for their boss and not the inverse. Nothing would get done, ergo, here we are with nothing getting down other than my pockets becoming lighter. This woman tells me the problem will be sent to a higher up. I doubt it will be. Three months later - lo and behold - the same letter shows up in my mailbox again with more accruing penalties. Absolutely nothing was done other than another delay. On top of this, there is zero proof that I paid the LLC tax even though I have proof in my bank account and USPS confirmation of delivery that I did. They either really are this disorganized, indolent, or trying to scam me. Either way, this does not look good for government that is supposedly for the people and by the people. California. The sixth largest economy in the world and they can't solve the same problems every government gets criticized for. Thanks for the experience, DOGE, Elon, Norquist, and every Republican who insists government doesn't work and then uses the government to make that a self-fulfilling prophecy. This government failure inevitably ends with the Republicans blaming the Democrats and everyone falling for it. Federal dysfunction trickles down and may be the only thing that does trickle down and works. Even California isn't impervious.
