The Airport Fire ash got in my swimming pool & started breaking away my existing plaster, the water was draining underground & my water bill has been excessively high as I have a water filler on that pool. I got a couple of local quotes from businesses off of yelp, but they were so high & unreasonable & couldn't even start my project for months. I reached out to California Builders & they had someone draining my pool within days, after 4 days, my pool went from ruin to what now looks like a resort pool & for super reasonable pricing. I contacted CA Builders after one of my front retaining walls was knocked over from the snow storm last year. I had Chris out for a quote and he was able to facetime and walk through the job site remotely and give an initial bid. I also had him check around the house for any other damage as well as some deck re-enforcements. Chris uncovered quite a bit of dry rot on the backside of the property and it was clear it needed to be addressed asap. Within a week his team had ripped out all the old decking/ledger board/trim and replaced everything up to code. It went so smooth, I also asked him to re-adjust our heavy custom wood doors that have gone out of whack over the years and needed all new weatherstripping. I also had him replace the front light fixtures and build custom replicas of the existing wood mounts. The wall was rebuilt perfectly and looks better than before. I wish I would have done the other side. Overall I was extremely happy with Chris and team, his communication level is A+. He documented everything with photos, texts and calls along the way. The team was on site until completion and everything was wrapped up in a few weeks. My doors are like new again, wall looks great and all the dry rot has been addressed. I used Chris and his team for 5 house projects. Biggest one was master bath remodel. He came out to do estimate and provided a pretty detailed estimate and could start right away since was near end of the year. He helped me along the way making color and design choices and always strived to save me money. His worker Jed had to be very creative on a closet project and was so hard working and nice and considerate. His entire team was always super respectful and clean and kind and helpful and going above and beyond to make sure I was happy and the end product was perfect. Houses and construction can be so unpredictable but Chris did his best to keep things on track even when things took a complicated turn. I appreciate them so much. read more

will just mention facts. Quoted 90 days for construction, 2 years 9 months have elapsed and no end in sight. Workers show up once every 3 weeks. Hvac contractor unable to complete job and they did not provide alternate after 10 follow ups from me so I was forced to hire my own. Had to hire people to complete many tasks because they are unreachable. Didn't have heat for 9 months so prevented my use of the house. Received 100's of promises that were never followed through on. Nice owner and crew but doesn't compensate for failure to perform. I can't take it anymore so had to post my experience. calls back 1 time in 20. Does this sound appealing? UPDATE: after seeing chris' response, I had to add something. his first line is I am welcome to contact him to finish the project. DIDN'T I WRITE THAT THEY NEVER CALL BACK? when was the last time they were on site? 9 months ago. The most difficult part of remodeling or repairing a vacation home is the absenteeism of the owner. We needed to have our deck repaired/replaced in Big Bear and trying to get a contractor to simply reply or call back was almost impossible. When I contacted Chris at California Builders, he was genuinely interested in my business and immediately sent a detailed estimate with options. One other builder offered a flat $ per square foot sight unseen which was no help at all when the possibility of cost over-runs or other hurdles may occur. Chris followed the outline of the estimate to a "T", offered suggestions and was amendable to the changes in design we made. When there are multiple family members involved, there are of course multiple opinions involved as well. Chris listened to each request and was honest in what would/wouldn't work and where the funds of our budget would be best utilized. Chris's vision and execution is off the charts! He communicated with us every step of the way, sent lots of photos and kept us in the loop. Imagine doing business with a man and his company that you've never physically met and then sent agreed upon funds during the agreed upon timeline. Chris tries really hard to make you happy he's honest and always willing to problem solve

Our family just had a highly satisfying first time renovation project with California Builders....the old kitchen was modernized and the adjacent toilet was converted to a full toilet and bath. Since we are novice in this area, we utilized help to identify a few builders we can choose from. Thanks to Home Advisor. We invited three (3) contractors and Chris of California Builders was outright impressive.He accommodated all the ideas of family members including our retired parents. His accurate and concrete conceptualization matched our ideas. He verbalized the plans in a very understandable manner with an open mind to suggestions and whims of the homeowner. And the quote was the most fair and reasonable. It is admirable how he orchestrated a pool of workers coming and going.. with synchronized movement. The workers were mostly pleasant and seemed comfy with us hovering sometimes and anxious of the results of the task on hand. In the process we even shared a bit of our culture since we are of Asian descent. The project proceeded well, with minimum lapses. What helped a lot was the accessibility of Chris who regularly monitored the site and answered to no fail all calls and messages. Yes, he has a glib of tongue.. but he was courteous throughout the encounter and his "gift" including his person skills facilitated communication to be open. The project was done within the agreed schedule. Since our kitchen and dining area is our "command center" in the house, the fantastic work of art of California Builders make our every minute stay in the place most satisfying and enjoyable. DO NOT go to Chris to have a home built. It has been over TWO YEARS since plans were approved to break ground, and this "company" cannot seem to finish the job or give an accurate timeline of completion. The project site sits empty most days, and sometimes no one will be there to work for WEEKS on end. Keep in mind, this job was paid in advance, and now they are saying they need time to gather more funds from additional jobs to complete this project.... However, in this few year time span, they have moved into a new office and have obtained new personal and work vehicles. read more

Just finished a project with California Builders. They added a dormer in order to extend one of my bedrooms. It was a fairly complex job. It involved a lot of different specialists: painters, electricians, roofers, architects, and inspectors. Chris was able to coordinate all of this quite well. They finished the project in about seven weeks. He had quoted me eight weeks so I'm quite happy about that. His workers were very friendly and they cleaned up after themselves quite nicely. Chris is a real piece of work. While he loves to brag about himself, his real competency is questionable. He'll try to set deadlines in contracts in order to charge more, he never calls or shows up on time, and his wife, who answers the phone, clearly knows nothing about anything. If you have millions of dollars to spend, he'll try to cozy up to you. But if you have a smaller project, he'll let you know you're insignificant to him. How do I know this? Because he actually said that to me after I hired him, and then he went MIA without so much as a single word! Complete waste of my time. People deserve to be treated with decency. Terrible craftsmanship. Lack of details, had to repeatedly ask for corrections in drywall, electrical, plumbing etc for the kitchen remodeling. The project was supposed to be completed within 1-2 weeks, but took over 6 weeks. We finally got fed up, paid Chris Hamilton and hired someone else to fix all the errors. I wanted to do a kitchen remodel but wasn't sure how to put my vision of what I wanted into a plan that was acceptable and affordable. They did not finish the work they were hired for. They lied about getting a permit. They left two tiles off the roof while doing the remodel. I have a roof leak because of it. Chris can take care of any job - it is incredibly convenient to be able to use one contractor for everything. The different teams coordinate with each other, helping jobs run smoothly. They repaired a big sewer leak that required removing half of the siding on the front of our house, and managed to put it back together better than before the repair. Smooth talkers...Kitchen and bathrooms took about 10 months to complete. They need to be prodded...sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't. Some work was done very sloppily and I redid work just to get it done. Some tiles were used that were cracked or chipped. The new roof installed about six months ago leaks. One slab of granite in kitchen has a crack all through it. AND, the builder owes me $3,000, due to my over payment of the last invoice. Don't buy yourself problems. read more
