I chose this place based on all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience. Picked up a wheelbarrow of oak wood for cooking left in the trunk of my car for a couple days. When I went to remove them, most of the wood and car trunk had bugs crawling all over them! Google search determined they were most definately termites. I spent a good amount of time banging the pieces together and removing/killing the termites. I decided to email Danna (I assume she is the manager there) telling her about my sitiuation asking what I should do. She offered to exchange the wood. So I load up the wood I spent all morning cleaning and make the trek back up there. I call right before I pull in so Danna can meet me outside as she instructed. She never shows up. The workers in the yard unload the wood and call me out to inspect it insisting the wood is fine with no bugs. I explain to them like I explained to Danna that I had spend the morning removing and killing all termites on the surface and Danna was also the one that told me to bring it back. They were extremely hostile and rude. No idea what they did with the wood that they took back. My guess is it ended up in the pile and sold to the next person. I got home and emailed Danna about my experience. No reply. I guess it wasnt important to them. read more

I found California Firewood via Google. I love that they had all the necessary details (types of wood, prices, etc) on their website. I called on June 3 to schedule wood delivery and stacking. I spoke with Jennifer and she was friendly and provided all the details I needed. We selected the wood, arranged delivery and stacking and confirmed total price. We scheduled delivery for June 4 between 10:30 and 12. The delivery team (I'm sorry, I did not get their names) showed up at exactly 10:30. They stacked the wood perfectly, cleaned up, swept our driveway and were on their way. Payment was exactly what I was quoted. Excellent company and service. Went in today and asked for a 1/4 cord of oak. 3 guys then proceed to throw wood over the side of my truck, several pieces bouncing off the side... I get home and stack and measure just to find out. Only 23cuft of wood.... A quarter cord is 32. That's 9cuft short. Not sound like much. Thats 29%!!! They shorted me by 29%!!! At their prices that's $36 of wood they skimped me on. First time in,. This is the second time I have purchased wood from CA Firewood. Everyone in their office is very very nice. The drivers come on time and deliver quality wood. Unfortunately both times the wood delivered was short of a cord. The first time they came out and gave me more than I was missing. This time after I showed them pictures of the missing wood they gave me two wheel barrows of wood after I advised them it should be 4 full wheelbarrows. I stack my wood 4' high in a single row. After I finished stacking the wood it was 4' high and 20' long. A cord would be 4' by 24'. I am surprised they would insist that 2 wheelbarrows would fill an area 4' long and 4' high. It did not. I was still 2 full wheelbarrows short of a cord. In the future I will measure the truck to make sure the wood is stacked 8' x4' high prior to unloading and watch to make sure all the wood is unloaded. At $500 per cord that is $21 per foot of wood for every foot short of 24', (24 x $21= $504). I will go back there again because they have great wood, the best prices and free delivery for those who are close enough. I just suggest that buyers watch the wood unloaded and measure the stack when done. If I am short wood again I now know my Home Depot wheelbarrow holds 1'x4' of wood. (It took me 20 trips to move the wood to where I stacked it the 20' long and 4' high). Finally both times they did not have oak but they have almond. Almond is a very hard long lasting wood that I now prefer over oak. read more

For the first time, we tried getting wood through someone that delivers. We bought a cord mixed into hard, soft and medium. Tried a fire last night, but the wood wouldn't catch for more rhan a few minutes. We added extra paper and kindling to no avail. Tried again this morning, and the soft wood just smolders. We've called twice and have been told ' the wood delivery guy will get back to us' . This wood is obviously not seasoned. Will never go here again. I want my money back read more

Living in SD, we have the luxury of a string of beaches and parks, many of which have fire rings. Instead of paying by the bundle at my local grocery store, I checked this place out since I could see their huge forest-like inventory from the 94 freeway. Functioning much like the drive-ins of the olden days, you drive up, honk your horn, and someone comes out to you - sans roller skates - and ask you what kinda wood you want. Get pinion wood. We got the oak from here and it wouldn't burn. Lawd have mercy we tried everything we could.... even soaking it in fire starter!!!... but it wouldn't burn. The pinion is $25 for a barrel, has a lovely pine smell, and burns well. This place was weird to find. It's RIGHT NEXT to the gas station on the corner. Be careful pulling in that you don't hit someone backing up. Cash only!!! And sometimes the person there doesn't speak conversational English. So bring exact change and just say what wood you want. Great prices. If you regularly use a fire pit or fire place, you're wasting your money buying bundles at chain stores. We buy a truck bed of wood and it lasts us an entire year, for a fraction of the price. Their staff loads your truck as well. This is a review from last year, pre pandemic BS. A bit of background,.....I have been buying from wood yards for about the last 15 years or so. From getting a mixed load in the back of a Chevy Equinox, to our current f-150....I know who the real guys are out there. Anyway, I happened to drive past this wood yard while working....dropped in, talked to a nice guy and said I'd be back next weekend for a mixed load in our f-150. So the next weekend the same guy (sorry, forgot his name) remembered me, we loaded up our rig and off we went. Mind you, we live up in Oceanside so this is not a quick trip around the block. We unloaded our rig at the house and had awesome fires for a couple months after that. I just got done reading a bunch of reviews here, and my best guess is that most people just want wood, droppped off at their house, drop in a fireplace and then they are off and running. People like me I believe are far and few. I like the mixed wood. But you must have a hatchet, and a nice chainsaw to breakdown the chunks at your house. I have super close neighbors and use a electric Stihl saw. It makes all the difference in the world. Neighbors happy, wife happy, fireplace rocking and I have tons of firewood and all chopped down to different splits an sizes. Anyhow, planning on going up again tomorrow AM and I can only presume I will have the same courteous people to help load up rig, stacked , and off again for another few months. These guys are really nice and helpful. We have been twice for a wheel barrel full of wood. We prefer the Walnut, its' quicker to get going and puts out some nice heat. We use it inside and outside in our fire pit. They put plastic down and stack the wood neatly in my SUV. They even let me and my sister fill a bag of scrap wood to use for kindling. Great place. I've bought my firewood only from here in the 20 years i've lived in Rancho San Diego. I've watched the cost rise way too high for my tastes during that time. A few days ago, i decided to stop by in person since i was in the area. The lady i was with got out of the car first and gave a greeting which the guy completely ignored (i did not know that until after the fact). After talking several minutes to the guy with no personality, i decided that paying almost $400 for a cord of oak was out of my price range...$335 for the wood, $35 for stacking, and $25 for delivery (i live one exit away). Great! I called on a Friday, ordered a half chord of Oak for delivery. I was told they were booked for delivery until the following weekend, but that they would do what they could to fit me in ASAP. They did it, two days early. The Oak was quality, well split with few jumbo knots and awkward pieces. Those landed in the camping fire pile. Happy, happy, happy!
