So she told me to go to window number 23 to do another eye exam looking thru something that looks like a binocular. First, I did it without my eyeglasses on but failed. I asked the lady I want to try with my eyeglasses on. She said in that case you're gonna have to go back in line and wait. WtH. It probably takes about a minute to finish. I don't know why she told me to get back in line. That's like you walk into a bank and tell the teller that you want to deposit a check and withdraw some cash, but saying you can deposit your check, but you're gonna have to get back in line to withdraw your cash. No wonder this place has a lot of bad reviews. A few days later I went to the DMV in Hayward. I was able to renew my license in 10 minutes without any problems. If you want to get a job at this Oakland location, be sure to put. I am very good at coping an attitude, giving people a hard time, unprofessional, rude and yelling at people as a job skill, you will be hired on spot 100%.

How in the world is it that I had no idea whatsoever this was happening? I was in an accident that was the the other driver's fault, but I didnt have my license with me so received a fix it ticket for not carrying my license. One week later, I had it signed off by my local friendly ocifer and took it to the courthouse. A few hours of my time wasted but that was that, all taken care of. But, apparently NOT. I guess somehow the paperwork was lost at the courthouse. AND THIS IS HOW I FOUND OUT. So now I get to spend my Saturday in the skanky over crowded pit of anger that is the Oakland DMV. And the kicker is I can't even drive there because it would be a major crime of some sort. Someone just shoot me. Now.

This is the worst and I mean worst experience I have ever had with any (back east) tag agency,(west…read morecoast) Department of Motor Vehicles or any business for that matter. I did exactly as I was instructed by the clerk at the window, after getting a number and then waiting all day to be called. I know when dealing with any public service office, expect to be there all day; that's not where the problem lies. I followed the instructions given to the "T". I had two vehicles needing to be registered this week, one successful not a problem. My second vehicle, I paid all the fees and what have you to register said vehicle; the clerk told me not all you have to do is smog and you'll get your plates, I even said what a relief. After dealing with them all week, finally it'll be over. I get here at 4:20, because last week at 4:30 they locked the doors; no one in and off you stepped out regardless of your number being called or not; you wouldn't be allowed back in. So at 4:20 I entered the building I asked, whom I later found out is the manager; if I could go move my car and still get back in. Response was definitely a smart @$$ response, as long as the doors not locked. I walked up to the window where they give you the number (without waiting in line, just to ask) I just finished getting my smog I was told I can get my plates today. She glanced over my paperwork, and said should be able to; as long as it cleared with smog. I left to go park my car, because I had parked right in front of the doors. When I came back in (now it's 4:26PM) I asked the manager so will I get my pastes she said you have to wait in line, only a few people ahead of me. No big deal; I thought. At 4:33 my turn to get a number, I'm told I need a vehicle inspection; done here at the DMV . I said I know I just had to do it with my other car earlier in the week, but the didn't say I had to do the van. The same smart @$$ manager lady, tells me well I don't know who told you what but there closed for the day, they stop at 4:30PM. I told her, but I was here; no one told me if have to get the inspection on the van too. Instead of waiting in this line for a number, and moving the van to find a park I could've pulled string the building and got the inspection done. She then gave me the coldest ( do I look like I care/ I don't GAF) I have never felt so robbed, so waisted. I'm a businessman, very professional; cross the T and dot the I type. I have a customer expecting the van to be delivered this Friday, for a road trip their family had planned cross country. I will not be able to deliver, for the first time ever; for the lamest of lame excuses/ reasons ever. Then they told me come back Monday. I asked if they could make an exception, or could I speak with a supervisor. This being when I found out the old crusty ashy lady with the bad molded weave, was the manager. I will drive across the state to another DMV before ever coming here again. I was told not to come to this DMV in particular; I wish I'd have listened, or even read a couple of the yelp comments about this location beforehand. All they want to do is go home, I understand it's Friday evening and the weekends almost here; almost being the key word. Why is that the most gross people are always in management. I am a manager myself, I don't just build rapport to fake a common ground; I genuinely care and I put myself in who ever it may be shoes. This lady and this DMV. I only feel resolved knowing God don't like ugly, knowing you reap what you sow, GWNARF eye for and eye, and the 10 fold the only reason I'll be able to sleep tonight. I know I shouldn't say, shouldn't do uggghhhhhh!!!!!!! Sad

This was my first time at a Social Security office, and I drove 40 minutes to the San Leandro…read morelocation because they had the earliest available appointment. Based on my experience, it was well worth the drive. I arrived 30 minutes early. I was sent a text message with a link to check-in when I arrived, so I checked in on my phone and went to the kiosk (which is on the left side of the entrance upon entering) to print out my ticket. They have a TV screen on the wall with a queue of ticket numbers, but they will announce your number when it's your turn over the intercom. The sound quality of the intercom isn't the best, so listen closely for your number. The waiting room is small, but thankfully it wasn't full. From my appointment time, it took about 20 minutes to be seen, and I was good to go after about 15 minutes. Essentially, my visit took only 35 minutes of my time. I spoke with two employees, and both were very pleasant. The gentleman who helped me update my social security card was very helpful and kind. He made sure to answer all my questions and advised me on how to proceed with my next steps. As other reviewers have stated, you MUST have an appointment. There are signs posted all over the office stating this. I highly suggest making an appointment online as it's the fastest and easiest method. As for parking, the parking lot is tiny. In the same plaza directly across from the office is a Mountain Mike's Pizza, which also has a row of parking. A majority of the parking spots directly in front of the office are handicap parking, so if you don't have a handicap placard, I suggest parking in the spots next to Mountain Mike's Pizza. Just be sure to enter from the main road because that is the only way you can enter that side of the parking lot.

He responded quickly to my questions on Yelp messaging and answered all my questions, whereas other services either didn't reply for a long time or didn't even answer the question (or maybe didn't understand?). When the car arrived, I called him and he explained exactly what to expect. Pull up in front, or park on 12th and Fruitvale, give him a ring, and he'll come out to inspect the car, then we'd go inside to finish the paperwork. All I had to do was bring the title. He forgot to mention on the phone that he charges a 3% credit/debit card fee if not using cash, but there was a sign in the office stating this so it wasn't a surprise or anything. Within minutes, he gave me 2 plates, stickers, and the registration document, and filled out all the paperwork for me, I just had to sign in two places. I took a photo of all the pages and he said I would receive everything back in the mail from the DMV. There's a $5 off with Yelp check-in and I forgot to mention it until after he already charged me, but he gave me a $5 bill back, which I immediately went and used for tacos at Tacos Sinaloa #4 across the street ($3 per taco if you're wondering). Well worth paying for a service like this rather than try to figure out everything yourself and line up at the DMV. I was probably done with my tacos by the time someone would've finished up at the DMV.

The front desk employee--who has been there for years--was very rude and dismissive. I understand that staff deal with a lot of people who may not have the right paperwork or may not be tech-savvy, but that doesn't excuse the lack of patience or basic courtesy. My dad was told he needed to scan a QR code outside to check in. He tried to explain that he didn't know how to do that, but instead of helping, he was told to "just use your camera and scan it." He ended up taking a photo of the code and was understandably confused. Even the security guard wasn't much help. Frustrated, he left without getting anything done. Luckily, I was on spring break and able to go back with him. When we arrived, he immediately recognized the same front desk employee. We managed to check in properly and waited about an hour. While sitting there, I couldn't help but notice how she spoke to other confused customers--it was honestly hard to watch. I get that the job can be repetitive and frustrating, but many people coming in genuinely need help, especially older individuals. That said, I want to highlight someone who completely turned the experience around: Armaan. Armaan was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. He took the time to clearly explain everything my dad needed to do, made sure we had all the correct paperwork, and even double-checked with a coworker to ensure everything was done right. His professionalism and attitude made a huge difference. This was the first genuinely positive experience I've ever had at the DMV. If it weren't for Armaan, we likely would have had to come back--and I honestly don't know how that would have gone. 5 stars for Armaan--he deserves recognition for going above and beyond.

We waited in line, but when it was finally our turn, she ignored us and chose to help someone who had not been waiting in line. In contrast, she greeted a white mother and her son with a smile, was extremely patient, and treated them with kindness and respect. The stark difference in how we were treated compared to them leads me to believe that we were subjected to racial discrimination. I found her behavior unacceptable, unprofessional, and deeply upsetting.
