Leslie who runs the school has been doing this for 40 years, the team of teachers are all so special and have been with her for such a long time. The energy of the school is priceless, it's calm, structured, dynamic and respectful, and I love that it lays this foundation for the kiddos. The way they teach and learn there really fostered incredible independence in both my kids, and invaluable confidence and a real true love for learning. I couldn't possibly have found a better foundation for my children, and I owe it to Leslie and her crew. I remember the first day I went and "observed" my son at school I was in tears, blown away at what he was able to do at such a young age, and so happy to see him in an environment that allows him to thrive in his unique individualized way, I love that it builds this competence in them while at the same time maintaining a structured respectful environment to also ensure kids learn respect and appropriate behaviors. (Also I didn't feel like half day K was enough for her inquisitive mind.) The school was flexible about our unusual attendance arrangement, though understandably, it didn't cost much less for a half day slot vs. full day. They always made her feel welcome when she came in mid-day. She really loved it there, despite being a kid who chafes at rules at home - she really thrived in that environment. Teacher Angela was fantastic and they quickly gave my child appropriate work for her level since she started already knowing how to read and being able to do basic addition and subtraction. Their written evals were detailed and helpful, and I felt like they really got to know my child in a short time. Their summer program was fantastic and their extended care option was flexible for the times we needed a little extra care. They also had a fantastic "Parents Night Out" where they also welcomed siblings, and we took advantage of that a few times. This is a true Montessori, where kids are expected to learn how to be self-directed. We came from less-rigid Montessori schools, so getting used to the strict dress code was hard for us as parents, but my daughter was fine with it. Our daughter entered a rigorous Mandarin immersion program the next year in 1st grade, and Madrone prepared her VERY well for it. I'd highly recommend it if you are open to a more academic environment for your pre-K/kindergartner and want to encourage independence.

The secure entry with double doors and coded access, along with locked and alarmed outdoor gates, gives me confidence every day that my son is in a safe environment. The playground is always clean, well-maintained, and a place where the kids can play safely. The communication is another huge reason we love this school. Through their app, I receive updates throughout the day with photos, what my son has eaten, diaper changes, water refills, nap times, and more. It makes such a difference knowing exactly how his day is going while I'm at work. I am so grateful that my son gets to grow up surrounded by teachers and staff who love him so well.
