Calamity. Who do you call when a tree crushes your house. 2:30am, raining heavily in the middle of a santa cruz mountains winter. You call the fire department, then you call your insurance. But then what do you do? Multiple roofs crushed, rain pouring into your home. You need a board & tarp professional to respond. We called California Premier Restoration, and by daylight, they were here to evaluate the job. The tree had to be removed first before they could begin. We found an emergency tree specialist who arrived quickly with three trucks and cut out and removed the tree. CPR brought three trucks and 7 guys waiting to board and tarp our house. That was an A+ job. The next piece of this disaster response is cleanup and remediation. CPR's cleanup and mold specialists began right away to catalog for insurance and remove our damaged furniture, carpet and possessions. Luckily for us, I also began immediately to catalog everything, and it was good that I did, because insurance replacement needed better documentation than CPR's crew provided. I would give this cleanup team a B, and the mold remediation team an A. Our home needed major repairs and was going to require a significant rebuild with all work performed up to current building codes, which had to be permitted by the county building department. We interviewed multiple general contractors, and engineers. January 2021, still in the aftermath of the CZU fire, it was a challenge to find general contractors who would even accept an appointment to look at our house. Of all the general contractors we interviewed, we felt that Mike Mosebach of California Premier Restoration, had the most experience with and best approach working with insurance funded projects. Having contacts in the building trade, Mike reached out and arranged for an engineer and an architect to accept our project. For many elements of the reconstruction project, Mike's experience and ability to work directly with Xactimate proved invaluable. Mike negotiated with our adjuster and won us many big and little battles with insurance that were critical in receiving a sufficient enough settlement to properly rebuild our home, both up to code and better than it was before the disaster. The tree strike did major damage, but beyond the structural damage to the house, the rain water, and subsequent moisture rot and mildew ruined the drywall and flooring in most of the house. Also ruined by the tree strike and subsequent water damage was the entire hvac system. It took many months of back and forth and documentation, but insurance relented and replaced the entire hvac system. Initially insurance authorized only a partial replacement of the roof. Mike and the homeowner pushed and pushed back and insurance paid for a 100% roof replacement. Mike advocated for all the repairs and replacement we needed, and the project benefited immeasurably from his efforts. If you are still reading this review, think about it, how does a homeowner grapple with all this without a pro like Mike Mosebach on our team. Our HOA has used CPR to tackle a variety of repair projects within our complex. I have always felt confident that Mike's (owner) word is his bond, that his work is always supported by thorough researched and backed by quality workmanship. It has seemed clear that he takes pride in the work his company produces and hex will stand behind it. Working in an HOA can be like getting cats, but Mike and his crew leafs have shown remarkable instances of patience and flexibility in accommodating residents affected by their work. There is a term in Germany's wine classification and labeling system which assures buyers of a recognized level of product: "Qualitatswein", ie. Our church in Pacific Grove suffered significant water damage from the storms of the winter of 2021/2022. We had water coming in through roofs and walls. Even though several insurance adjusters, including a public adjuster, wrote their reports that the damage should be fully covered by our insurance company, the insurance company eventually covered only a tiny fraction of the cost. We finally tired of fighting the insurance company and decided to proceed with what work we could afford to do. Michael Mosebach, the president of CPR, was my primary POC throughout our project. He patiently waited through the adjuster process, provided advice, guidance, and sample statements of work so we could solicit additional bids for comparison purposes. Michael was always available by text, even off hours and weekends. They provided detailed bids, worked with us to come up with alternative approaches so we could still conduct Sunday service and mid-week practices. CPR listened to what was important to me (communication and cleanliness) and meticulously respected those values. They worked without any oversight by me, and were always responsible and trustworthy. Each CPR teammate I dealt with, and there were many over the course of the project, was kind, respectful, knowledgeable, and always went above and beyond. CPR bid the project, and when their first approach was not successful and resulted in additional time and cost to them, they NEVER passed any of that cost to us. When there were surprises (supports I didn't see that needed to removed, trim I didn't know was missing, etc.) they addressed it all at no cost. They listened, and came up with just-in-time creative approaches to get the work done and still allow us to function as a church. Had a black mold issue that was discovered from 2 dozen air tests throughout my home and crawl space. CPR came out, did a thorough inspection, explained their process and how we would be affected, gave us a time schedule of when they could start and when they expected to be finished, along with a detailed estimate. We had the air tests all redone after they completed their work, and there were no problems anymore. After a house fire, we hired CPR. For 15 months they worked 50% of actual workdays, went weeks without anyone showing up & no explanation. They blew pass 3 "assured" completion dates without any notification. Yet when they sent an invoice, we were pestered within 24 hours of receiving it to pay, even though the signed contract has a net 30 policy. Quality of work and customer service is so important for a business like this. Remediation work is something that makes it easy to prey on vulnerable people who are in the middle of a mess of one sort or another (fire, flood, mold, etc). There are many scammers and questionable owners of these types of businesses. With that said, I could not be happier with the workmanship, professionalism and customer service provided by Mike and his team at CPR. For decades the family home had a water intrusion issue which led to there being a small lake of water in the crawlspace during every significant storm. The house smelled musty for years and aggrevated allergies (at the time unaware of the cause). There were several inspections over the years by different companies recommending a French drain in the yard and vapor barrier in the crawl space. Knowing my parents, they probably thought it was a scam and unnecessary (a sump pump was all they thought was necessary). After both parents had passed and we were interested in buying the house, we had a mold inspection done by two different companies which all came back reporting high levels of mold in most of the house (early 2021). This is where Mike and CPR came in. I had three different local remediation companies come out. I showed them the mold reports and explained the causes of the water intrusion, which I was very familiar with since we'd just had a massive rain in January 2021. Of all three companies, Mike was the only one who seemed to really know what he was talking about and gave a very good impression that left me confident he knows his business and understands the dirty science of mold. I knew going in that we wanted a French drain to alleviate future water intrusion and a vapor barrier for good measure to seal any spores or other issues coming up from the soil. Mike was the only one who would be able to do the entire job in-house without using sub-contractors. He was also the only one using a purpose built 20mil vapor barrier product. He brought this up to me as something I likely wouldn't get from other contractors. I followed up with them about what product they would use and Mike was right, they were basically going to use good quality painter's plastic. Based on conversations with Mike and the confidence he left me feeling, along with being able to do the entire job and with the proper materials, I decided to go with him. He was not the cheapest, and in fact was the most expensive I think. No regrets. I'm glad we spent the extra money to have things done right. CPR got to work right away ripping out all the carpets, installing a vapor barrier (after drying the crawlspace with heated air for several days), building a French drain, and HEPA vacuuming the entire interior of the house followed by a thorough wipe down with Benefect, a mold killing product. They ran 3 HEPA filters in the house for several days to scrub the air clean. We also had the furnace replaced and duct work sanitized. Through the entire process, everyone who was on the property were extremely professional, courteous and answered every question I had along the way (there were a lot). Mike Murphy, one of the foremen, kept me constantly apprised of progress and would even be in touch after hours. So the job was completed and passed re-testing for mold. Here's where the customer service really came in. Several weeks after the job was done and the bills were paid (Mike never asked for money up front, other than maybe for the vapor barrier materials), I located a couple spots where it looked like mold had been missed. One was in a hard to see area under the kitchen sink and one was underneath the sub-floor in the crawl space. I called Mike and he had someone out there the same day to clean and sanitize it. This week (12/14/21) we got a big storm with lots of rain, which I knew would test the repairs made in the yard. I was at work and got a call from my wife that the yard was flooding in the same places as before causing a small lake in the yard again, which the dogs loved! I sent Mike a text with a couple pictures. In the middle of a storm, the owner of a remediation company, who you know was busy as heck, came out to the house that same afternoon to look at the yard and figure out why the French drain wasn't working. He quickly updated me and let me know he would have a crew out first thing the next day, which I was fine with. The next day they discovered that due to the soil conditions, the water just wasn't absorbing through the soil and into the drain as anticipated. I give them a pass here because it would be difficult to know how the system is going to work since it was built in dry conditions. The drain was installed right but the soil is very dense clay and pretty impermeable. They came up with a plan to modify the system and immediately got to work on it. Outstanding service, communication and work, professional and timely interaction, all at a fair price. I had a fantastic experience working with Mike Mosebach of CPR. He repaired and rebuilt a cantalevered porch for a condominium. I was located remotely and the whole process was smooth, professional and timely. Initially he provided a quote within a few days of my inquiry, the quote was 4 pages long, thorough, included a full description of the work that would be conducted, and outlined every item that would be purchased. Upon submitting the quote to the condominium architectural committee for approval to move forward, they asked for an explanation regarding how the work would conform to the association's guidelines, which Mike drafted within two days and personally followed up with the head of the architectural committee to address outstanding questions. He obtained the city permit for the work and sent me a copy of it. He told me when he would be able to start the work and kept to his schedule. During the work he found some unexpected dry rot, he sent me pictures of it, outlined the additional work and items that need to be purchased, and explained why the additional work was necessary. Upon finishing the work he informed me it was complete and sent me pictures of the completed work, he also arranged for the inspection by the city and again sent me a copy of the approved inspection, and again worked with the architecture committee to explain what was complete and help ensure approval. At all times during the process I was kept informed, Mike responded quickly to texts and emails, all city and condominium requirements were met and the final result looks great. California Premier Restoration did an excellent job in cleaning up our home after a pipe burst. The pipe burst while we were out of town and our teenage daughter was at home alone. CPR went the extra mile and sent their female office manager over to be there while the team was working on the clean-up to ensure our daughter was safe and comfortable. Do NOT by any means use this company! I had severe water damage in my condo from the upstairs unit on 2/15/2019. They were quick to repair my walls and ceiling. Then......it took them until AUGUST to follow through with a return phone call to me regarding my needed carpet and padding to put my home back together. They began demanding payment from me in AUGUST for the work that was completed in February. I was the victim and had already filed a formal complaint with California State Insurance Commissioners Office for no response from State Farm either for 6 months. CPR assumed I had received payment from them and cashed the check. I did not return their calls because I refuse to go out of my way for any company that provides less than adequate customer service especially when I was not at fault. It all could have been avoided if they would have billed State Farm in a timely manner. As a 68 year old physically disabled single woman that had to be the worst customer service experience I have ever lived through. If you are considering this company OR State Farm Insurance, make sure you get all the required information in writing to avoid the nightmare I went through. read more
