We stopped in yesterday looking for a new Kitchen Floor. We were enticed by signs on the window that advertised reasonable, "install prices." They are very reasonably priced and had some floors that we were interested in. The gentleman helping us was very knowledgeable about the products, courteous, and concerned. Unfortunately, we were unable to do any business here because we were told that they have a 500 sq. foot install minimum (set by the owner) and the kitchen was only 125 sq. foot. They will sell you just flooring without install for less than 500 sq. feet, but you will have to find your own quality honest installer which is near impossible in Los Angeles and fraught with all kinds of dangers and price swings we have discovered. So this place is better geared toward someone looking for flooring for their entire home, not just one room. 500 sq foot minimum! read more

About a year ago, I called Caliwood to bid out a job for a commercial building I manage. They came the next day and sent me a proposal soon after. I got a few other bids and found Caliwood to be the most reasonable. They had so many great options. The laminate tiles I selected looked like real wood. Update: Since my last review we've tried to get a quote multiple times from Caliwood (after they did the floor in our entire house and our kitchen and did a great job) and they've completely "ghosted" us. It feels sucky that we had such a good experience with them before but we've gotten all the excuses and have been waiting to hear back from them so our project has been on hold for the past few months. It sucks that we were treated like this and now we have to start the contractor search completely over again and our bathroom project will continue to be delayed. I did not use them, but like other said, their customer service could be improved significantly. I wanted to install condo laminate+sound proofing. I look at samples and scheduled a measurement at the store. They gave me some installation pricing and I picked out a particular material. They charged separately for transitions, demo, furniture moving, wall-moulding, etc which is fair to do, but they wouldn't accept my measurements for a preliminary quote and they seemed to be overcomplicating things. A few days later they did the measurement but overmeasured by ~10% compared to mine and only after we compared each room's measurement did it come within 2-3% of mine. They told me they'd give me quote the next day. Two days later, I called and asked about the quote and they said they'd tell me the next day. I called a second time two days later and they said they'd give me a quote that same day. They never did, and I ended up going with another local company that did the whole process from initial contact to finish in under a week. read more

I was every contractors worst nightmare, an interior designer, 5 months pregnant at the start of the project and needing to be abroad for the first half of construction. We met with a few different companies and immediately felt at ease with Eric and Madison. They were the first to come back to us with a detailed proposal, talked through everything and assured us the 4 month timeframe (in time for the baby to arrive) was doable but tight. And piece wise they were in the middle of the 5 quotes we got. Friends said we were crazy but it was now or never! This was an addition and remodel of the upstairs of our house including a huge master bathroom and for the first 2 months we needed to be abroad so i was looking for someone that could provide project management as well as building expertise. While we were abroad and we had their team essentially knocking our house to pieces i received daily photos of progress, emails asking relevant questions and FaceTime calls to make decisions i would have otherwise needed to do in person. 4 months later, within 2 weeks of my due date the job was complete and much to our disbelief we moved back into our dream master suite. (I will update the review with photos when i have good ones!) I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Caliwood. In a situation where everyone told us we were crazy to embark on the renovations with a baby on the way, these guys came in on time and on budget. Any changes along the way we're discussed and approved, any issues were dealt with without drama and panic and the results are BEAUTIFUL. We are so happy. We purchased over 3000 sq ft of Kahr's hardwood flooring from Caliwood. Eric, the owner and manager is honest, professional, not aggressive and very knowledgeable. Another designer quoted us an 'inside' price which was ridiculously high. Eric was able to beat it by 30% and then saved us even more when he was able to bundle another order. When a few of the boxes of the hardwood had different coloring, Eric took total responsibility and searched and located a few boxes in various warehouses in the US. In July, 2018, Caliwood Construction completed a renovation of our 1924 Spanish Revival Bungalow that was expanded in 1977 with the addition of a large family room and second storey master suite. The home had been flipped in 2014 with some truly terrible workmanship and Caliwood was hired to correct many infrastructure problems that were apparent when the house was purchased in May of 2018. In addition to overseeing black mold remediation, electrical and drywall repairs, Eric's team also installed a new 12' wide sliding door system, along with the structural work required to accommodate the new large opening. And finally installed new hardwood floors throughout the house. Time was an issue and the renovation was complete in two months. As a retired, professional interior designer I planned to hire many of the sub-trades myself and project-manage the renovation. Eric accommodated my involvement in the project and worked with me to get the best of his team and utilize my trades people as well. Not a typical arrangement for a contractor, but he was willing to work with me, which I very much appreciated. His sub-trades were all very professional and paid attention to details, pleasing this hard-to-please designer. The new engineered hard wood floors transformed the house and I credit Eric for encouraging me to make this significant change. Budget was an issue and Eric's participation allowed us to utilize the budget in the most effective manner, providing a lot of "bang for the buck". This review is overdue. We have a small house in Mid-City and called around our neighborhood for estimates (wanted to help local business). I got several quotes but Erik...well, he went above and beyond. He is polite, respectful and earns your trust from the time he picks up the phone. I had a good vibe. He came out immediately to look at my floors (1937 house). The previous owners had left parts of the floor to rot and floors just looked awful. Erik gave me options and pros/cons for each (not trying to sway me either way). I went with the refinish, knowing how challenging it would be. He promised top notch quality, would replace planks where needed and match them to original planks. The only downside was having to move out of the house for 4 days (we have a small house), but that was expected from all the contractors that quoted me. Erik delivered above and beyond. He showed up when he said he would. His quote was the final price. They were careful with the walls, the new planks matched the old ones and the finished stain was just BEAUTIFUL. Eric and his team did a fabulous job installing bamboo flooring in a townhouse I was remodeling for my parents. They were prompt, efficient and tidy, and the prices were right! The final product looks beautiful. I was working with a contractor at the time who was doing the remodel, and the contrast between the contractor's sloppy service and the perfect installation done by the team from Caliwood Floors was night and day. Unfortunately, the contractors scratched the floors after they were installed, so Eric came back out to check out the problem and has promised a good deal to repair them.
