At first it seemed more like a spot for a quick dinner with families including children in the living room area. But then a large group of bro-dudes... but wearing jackets instead of half zips took over the couches after the families left. And I know family has visited when the theater next door is open for cabaret performances. Old fashioneds and drafts were fine. Staff was efficient. My brother wasn't allowed to come in with a sleeveless shirt but there were white men allowed in with hoodies and flip flops on. I asked security why was the guy with the hoodie allowed in he said because it doesn't have a zipper it isn't considered a hoodie. I'm all for following rules but the rules put in place seem to be aimed towards the way black people dress and instead white people were dressed this way and still allowed in. I never thought this place would be one of those that try to keep black people away but my experience on Wednesday definitely showed this bar's true colors.

They were tossed in a Strawberry pepper jelly and peanut dust and then they give you a peanut sauce to dip them in. These were great! During the week, the kitchen opens at 5pm and that's when we got there. At that time, we were probably the youngest people in there and I am damn near 50. I am more of a daytime/ early evening bar visitor these days, so it was perfect for me. The back courtyard area is very nice for those fall/spring days and the bar area inside seemed to have a lot of character. They also have a stage for live music and comedy shows. All of these areas are not very big, so it still has that neighborhood bar feel. They have a different food vendor on weekends, so you won't get these wings then. They have a pretty good wine and beer selection, but they shine on their signature cocktails, of which there are so many that I could not reasonably list here, some of which rotate out regularly to keep variety up. Everything, and I mean *everything*, is reasonably priced, if not outright cheap. (5 stars) Service: Usually just a single bartender, except during shift changes, but the place is small enough, that is more than enough. All the 'tenders are friendly and efficient. (5 stars) Facilities: Martine's is located in a strip mall along Metairie Road. It's easily accessible from the Bonnebel exit off I-10. Signage is ample, but you have to be familiar with the turns along the street to be prepared to find it. There is some parking out front, and, as one goes to bars mainly at night, there isn't any competition for space then. There is a pool table, video poker, and what looks to be a non-functioning/unplugged pinball machine (never asked about it). The inside is smallish, and can probably hold about 50 people seated, including tables and bar stools. There is also outside seating available. It's clean, but, for whatever reason, the cigarette smoke lingers in the place. The management is aware and tries to work with customers on this angle. The decor is appropriate, with a saloon feel to it. It's approachable, as in the crowd isn't sketchy, the bartender is actually nice and while rough around the edges, you don't have to worry about glass (or a dead rat) being in your ice. Note on the dead rat: a bartender friend told me he found one once in a bar that he worked at on Bourbon. And the good stuff about a dive: cheap cheap cheap drinks. Two beers and a call vodka/soda eleven bucks? I don't jest! But the cats are what's bringing me back.

Some days and nights are more chill than others for those looking for respite and unwinding. Sunday nights tend to be a bit wild as the kickball kids come here after games to blow off steam. Bartenders have been extremely gracious towards the Parkview orphans, making us feel welcome and that we have a "spot". In fact, my first night in asking about IPAs and the one I prefer not being available, PM Caitlyn made sure to put it on order for me---and kid you not, the next time in, it was on the shelf. THATS service. Sure there are things that could be improved, like outdoor fans to battle those stagnant afternoons or nights, some development of a greatly underutilized back room, (throw those old gross couches away!) and scary sidewalks and steps non-conducive to drinking folk, but that's on the city, not the bar, just something to be mindful of! Glad to feel so welcome here, you'll see a lot more of me to come.

Chatting up other patrons, ignored me standing there while he got dog treats and fully walked outside of the bar with me standing there to go pass around treats. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since the bartender was wearing a t-shirt saying "World's Okayest Bartender" which is ironic considering he might've actually been the worst. Overall, worst bar service I've ever had. Not surprised, considering this place seems like a bad imitation of Finn McCool's. At least at Finn's you'll get served in a timely manner, and not completely ignored by in incompetent bartender. Just sad overall, would not recommend. Mick's was a colossal waste of time I so badly wish I could get back. Only gave 2 stars since they had Mango Cart on tap.
