It was nice to drop in for a drink and sit outside before dinner. They have a nice selection of draft beers. Around 5pm, it was not very sunny in the yard. It is very shaded. The lady friend and I stopped in here recently for the 1st time to get a few beers and a bite to eat. The menu is weird....in a good way! I got what they call an Intergalactic Snack Attack. This is basically a sampler platter of apps. It had 2 mac and cheese pancakes, 6 pizza rolls that looked like Chinese dumplings, and 4 PB&J wings. The pizza rolls were good, the Mac and cheese pancakes were ok, but the star of this show were the wings! They were tossed in a Strawberry pepper jelly and peanut dust and then they give you a peanut sauce to dip them in. These were great! During the week, the kitchen opens at 5pm and that's when we got there. At that time, we were probably the youngest people in there and I am damn near 50. I am more of a daytime/ early evening bar visitor these days, so it was perfect for me. The back courtyard area is very nice for those fall/spring days and the bar area inside seemed to have a lot of character. They also have a stage for live music and comedy shows. All of these areas are not very big, so it still has that neighborhood bar feel. They have a different food vendor on weekends, so you won't get these wings then. The bartender was friendly and fast, food was great and the atmosphere was chill. I will definitely be back for a full order of those wings. read more

Come on Wednesday nights for open mic comedy! The drinks are pretty strong. And it's a pretty chill spot. The comedy is fun if you want to get out and do something new for a change! Side note! I swear! This place is a hidden gem for food! They have some creative mind genius there on Wednesdays that makes dishes you can't get anywhere else. And the menu keeps changing! But everything is just as good! Try the penut butter jelly wings! (Its better than its sounds) or the macaroni pancake burger!!! (It's also way better than it sounds). Giving three stars because the bands that play here are usually pretty amazing. But like others have said, the bartenders aren't particularly friendly, especially the bald guy. And as others have stated we went in for food and drinks, and then after spending a bunch of money, they stopped serving us because we didn't have the special wristbands on. Nobody at the door tried to give us a wristband when we entered so it's like they get you to spend a certain amount of money and then they hold you hostage with these wristbands, and you either have to buy a wristband or they quit serving you. And buying a wristband really isn't a problem, but they are super obnoxious about it so we ended up just leaving. A better practice for them would be when you order food, explaining that at a certain time you will be required to have a wristband and offer you the opportunity to purchase the wristband with your food. read more

I've been to this place a few times, but had a terrible experience one Sunday (a while ago) with a blond female bartender. Disrespectful and condescending to my wife and myself. Acted like we were not 'acting right' while watching a football game when we were sitting and eating at the table because she didn't like how we put the garbage from our food on the table before we had a chance to finish and clean up. Then when I told her she was rude and disrespectful to a customer she got more indignant. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she was out of line how she acted. The food is good. The service is good. The ambiance is good. The prices are good. I read all the old reviews here and I can truly say that there must have been a big change because I love it. I know it may seem as if the host of the comedy night is a little tough but it is an open mic, so he is just trying to make sure you do not hurt the comics feelings. He calms it down by telling a few jokes himself. If you do not get or like a joke, just don't laugh. If you get it, relate to it or understand any jokes, by all means, laugh it up. It's free for now. Great neighborhood bar but they were kind of dickish about checking my ID before allowed in. I am 60 and frankly haven't had my ID checked for at least the past 5 years and we travel all over the place. After telling the big bouncer dude I didn't have mine he asked some other young dude hanging out in front (the manager I assume) if it was ok and he said 'absolutely not and according to Louisiana state law blah blah blah...") so we walked back to our airbnb to get. I mean really....I thought maybe it'd gotten really strict in NOLA but after spending the last 3 days here I can safely say that this experience def. was not typical. Nonetheless we enjoyed our 2 visits ( the latter experience happened on the second), loved the quirky but charming bartender who gave us some great restaurant recommendations, the cheap drinks and great music lineup...loved the 90s band on Friday. read more

Great Neighborhood Spot What a great find and neighbor atmosphere. Your in the 9th Ward and walking down some side streets and you walk into this cool situation. The bar is on the corner of the street and people are inside, outside, and even across the street shooting the shit and drinking. No one cares and the locals are as friendly as it gets. There is just strange comfortable feel to this place and the whole neighborhood around it. Music is playing, people are singing and carrying on. Inside is dark but the specials menu is clear and the bartenders were very friendly. It's New Orleans, one thing you can say is that these people want you to get drunk and have a good time. How can you complain about that? If your in NOLA and want to hang with locals and get away from the Bourbon St crap, head to the Uptown neighborhood and make this spot on your list. This is a great little dive bar with cheap drink specials! The bartender was very friendly and gave us our drinks quickly. My favorite part of the bar is the small outdoor patio in the back. They did have a kitchen selling tacos, but my friend and I wanted wings from Bourree nearby, and we were allowed to bring outside food in too. Our group of 6 arrived in the early evening, bought food and beers, and had a great time in the back. When I went back up to the bar, however, to buy more to eat and drink, bartender asked if I had a wrist band. Huh? No, I didn't have a wrist band because we came before the $25 cover started at 9 PM. Too bad. Bartender wouldn't sell me food or drink because that was their "policy." So six disappointed patrons left in search of something to eat and drink. I recently moved to the neighborhood and was in desperate need of finding somewhere to watch the National Championship game (GEAUX TIGASS). I looked up bars on yelp and here I found this gem. I had often times passed by duriNg events like mid summer Mardi Gras etc. So I returned! Great atmosphere everyone as soon as I walked in was so friendly and great priced drinks. This used to be my neighborhood bar when I lived on Hickory Street, thus I have fond memories of Carrollton Station. It's an excellent music venue, similar to Maple Leaf with fewer sweaty dancing people, as the shows tend to be more chill and rockabilly oriented than Papa Grows Funk-ish. They do an open mic comedy night every Wednesday, I believe, which is funny the first time you see it, and still fun after that because you get to know the comedians who're on the lineup every week. My only minor complaint is that they occasionally charge a cover, which is annoying pretty much across the board. I definitely want to support local talent, but I'd rather do so in the form of tips and drink surcharges. Paying a cover to go somewhere is too much of a commitment, if you ask me. All in all, if you live in the Uptown/Riverbend/Carrollton area, this is your neighborhood bar. If you've not been here yet, you really must do something about this. Go meet your neighbors! (And say hi to mine. Well, my previous neighbor, to be precise. I totally still see him whenever I happen to end up at Carrollton Station, which is pretty awesome.) read more

Flashback! When I met Joi & Danny here last month, I hadn't been inside Carrollton Station in a few years. But for the part it remains the same. It's still a great building that's for certain. The dart boards are still in the back. (Do not try to play if a band is on stage.) The gorgeous wood Brunswick bar is still there. The drinks are still solid and not too pricey. What's changed? The old school games are gone, although the bowling one was kind of broken. I miss that bear shooting one. Random Story Alert: I brought some French visitors (friends of friends) here in the 90s and one of them was totally enamored of the bear shooting game. He proceeded to demonstrate his marksman skills for quite awhile. Turns out he had been in the French army. In place of the vintage coin op games? Video poker. Sigh. The management has changed in the last few years. But that doesn't seem to have affected the bar much. Great place to see a band in an intimate venue. read more

There is a singer that comes here every week named McKayla. She is quite a talent. Definitely the best regular performer on Tuesdays. The bar itself is ok. It is just my luck that I finally get to Carrollton Station and hear that it is closing at the end of the year. This is an old building. I have no idea how old, but it definitely seems at least 100 years old. The bar itself is very cool. The woodwork is something that you just don't see in modern designs. The area to the left of the bar is the stage and bathrooms. It is kind of narrow and I could imagine it gets very crowded at times. The most recent night I visited, there was a stand up comedy routine. The tables filled up quickly, but even standing in the back, I was able to hear the show. I do think it is cool that there is a venue where amateur comedians can hone their skills. I am sure the open mic comedy night can get pretty fun. I did like this bar and am sad to hear it is closing. I can't imagine the building being anything other than a dive bar, so I hope a similar place opens. read more

Great neighborhood bar with a solid beer selection. Their food is perfect pub food, I highly recommend the Frito pie. There's a chill resident cat that roams the back deck area as well. If covid ever relaxes and they can get back to having live music, it's a great small venue that with the right band (Debauche) the building literally shakes. read more

Well....where do I start? ...I'll begun with saying I use to like this bar. I am in the bar industry. 11 years to be exact. I am very quiet and private. I may open up once I feel comfortable in my environment, but most of the time I'm just chilling. I moved into the neighborhood 2 years ago and this became my relaxation spot. Needless to say, it has become my worst bar experience ever. The bartenders have their picks and chooses, and allow their friends to racially disrespect, people like me when 99% of the time I just sit to myself, spend good money, without bothering anyone. I know a bar is a bar, but to be asked to take a two week break after lies were told that I am "a problem", really has out a sour taste in my mouth. I only react when something is personally done to me and I was sexually and racially violated in this bar many of times, without getting out of character, I just ignored it, and the times I took up for myself, by being verbal, never physical. I wasn't asked, what happened. I was TOLD to leave or I would be banned. Well....where they made one bar, they didn't stop making them, and I take racial profiling and sexual remarks very serious. Pros: - Cute layout so if one part of the bar is loud, it doesn't travel as much - Great patio - Some cheap drink specials - My friend killed at the comedy open mic Cons: - There was a guy at the bar that clearly made two women uncomfortable enough to leave (I know what that looks like and it was very clear to me they didn't actually have to go right then and there) - Same guy came up and called me baby (I get that's a thing here but I'm not your f-ing baby, it's 2018 damnit) and then kept asking me to shake my hair to watch my curls bounce. I walked away from the bar and if my friend wasn't going to perform I would have left altogether. - There were six other men and a bartender who either saw what was happening and didn't catch on to what the problem was or just didn't care. Sorry but that's just not acceptable anymore. Sure women can stand up for themselves, but none of those guys better ever self identify as an ally to women. So that experience left a sick taste in my mouth and the only reason I gave it three stars was that once my friend arrived I was able to focus on other things and then had a good time. read more

This is a great little dive spot to watch some good music. Usually it is almost all local folks so this is still a little local gem that hasn't been overwhelmed by tourists...so far. I've had some crazy good times in here and when there is a good band it can get pretty crowded and HOT. The drink prices are very fair and the service has always been great. It can get pretty gross and smokey sometimes depending on the crowd. Parking in the area can also be a challenge on crowded nights. This area is getting more trendy with all the development on Oak Street so places like this are getting to be an endangered species for the future as the $12 fast food "gourmet" burger joints creep ever closer. read more

What I like most about this bar is the patio. It's a good place to chill. There is a lot of seating so if I lived closer I could see myself meeting my friends there. Honestly, I never felt welcomed. At the bar I always felt rushed along or discarded. I also think the bathrooms are way too small! There is a great weekly comedy show there that features a wide variety of local comics. We were in NOLA for the holidays and wanted to experience trivia at a new place. This place had pretty good reviews but most importantly it was one of the only places with trivia on Thursday. We arrived for trivia at 7pm. It was $1 taco night. The food was very limited with about 5 small dishes to offer. The food was ok at best. The drink selection was substantial with plenty of beers, spirits, and a few wine selections. The place has a good hole in the wall vibe but just not quite did it for us. Bartenders were friendly. However, the guy running the comedy show on Wednesdays is a different story. First of all, the few funny comedians were great. They were polite and knew how to work the crowd. The crowd was small, maybe 30-40 people. It's a small room and if anyone in the crowd has to ask someone sitting next to them a question, it can be heard pretty much throughout the small room. So naturally, some people might get a little loud in a bar when alcohol is involved, they might think they're whispering when they're really not. There's a way for a comedian to make light of that situation and use it to get some laughs, or like these guys did, you could just make fun of the person's voice and southern accent and then scream at another person defending them, calling them a whore for just saying they're taking crowd noise way too seriously. Which they were. Let me remind these "comedians", they are putting on a FREE comedy show in a bar. I understand these comedians don't know much about making money, if you saw their gig you'd see why, but for that bar to stay open money needs to be made and if people aren't buying drinks then their comedy nights will be over. I am writing this as a witness to the whole scene, not as someone that was directly involved. With that being said, for the rest of the night I felt like I needed to text my friends sitting next to me if they needed another drink or to let them know I'm going to the restroom. If the owners of this bar want to keep bringing in new customers and more revenue I would suggest reviewing the way the comedy show is ran. There is a difference between a customer being rude by being loud and a customer asking their friends what they want to drink, the majority of people talking were not being rude. Perhaps if their comedy was funnier they wouldn't be so self conscious to someone talking during their routine. If the crowd is distracted by one person talking to a friend, it's not because of the person talking it's because your poor comedy gig can't keep anyone's attention. We will be back though, there were a few good acts, but the but the biggest joke is the host and his friends. read more

I can't say enough good things about Carrollton Station. They have awesome, cheap food (my favorite is the turkey, cranberry and brie sandwich oh and their cheese fries! ok ok it's a tie for my fav), great bartenders (who remember your name and drink) and some pretty cool entertainment. I come out almost every Wednesday for their open mic comedy night which is the longest running one in the city. It is the one that consistently gets the most comics and has some super talented hosts. I've even seen some professional comedians perform there (Louis C.K., Eric Andre and Hannibal Burress), all for free. Sometimes they have up to 40 comedians come and perform and the hosts manage it like true professionals, keeping the flow of the show going, keeping the audience engaged and keeping us laughing. read more

As someone who lived and worked in the neighborhood, I can say with confidence that Carrollton Station is everything you look for in a neighborhood bar. Great drinks, wonderful bartenders who get to know you quickly, and good food. It can be a place to just hang out and talk with friends, or to see live music and comedy. The back patio area is great with plenty of seating if you feel like enjoying the outdoors. I performed Comedy here at the "think you're funny" open mic on Wednesday nights many, many times. I got to see an incredible show filled with local talents, national headliners (Hannibal Burress and Eric Andre among others), and newbies for FREE. The bar was always packed with wonderful people and I made a lot of friends here. Seriously, one of the most enjoyable experiences in town. In New Orleans, you can get a drink from just about anywhere. If you want that experience to be more special than a fifth of ever clear mixed with juice in a plastic cup, Carrollton Station is the place for you.
