You know that really pretentious, supposedly "artsy" pottery that you may see on display but never…read moreknow what to do with it? Well, that's the exact opposite of the stuff you find at this studio. Erin's pottery just may be the brightest, happiest, cheeriest and most useful pottery you'll ever find. For example, I've yet to see a piece of her art that's dark or depressing. She uses really zippy colors; bright greens, reds, blues and yellows and everything has a purpose. And it's totally affordable. From the little (adorable!) toothpick holders to the larger bowls and dishes, they make great gifts. Think: housewarming. The good news is she's local and has a studio in East Millcreek. She has a small space at the Millcreek Art Space at Flynn Artipelago. I've been there a handful of times and seen her stuff. However, this is her working studio and isn't open for shopping per se. You can get in touch with the folks at Flynn Artipelago and find out the next time they're opening the studio for a stroll or make a private appointment with Erin. She's also sold at Craft Lake City in the past, and I believe was there during the Millcreek Community Market in 2011. Just another great little treasure. Why get a chips and salsa platter shipped from China when you can get a really great one right here in Utah and shake the hand of the artist who made it?

The teachers are so patient and care about their students' progress! I love how the other students in my pottery class take time to help one another and discuss new techniques. Much much more than just an art gallery, though it's a nice little gallery indeed. Art Access has…read moregrown to be an organization that's really pushing to bring art to those with disabilities and those who may not otherwise have access to it. You'll find their gallery and offices here at this address. The front part of the gallery is a small but open "gift shop" -esque area with cards prints, and other small items for sale. The back part is the gallery where different shows rotate throughout the year. The big highlight of the year, IMO, is the 300 plates exhibit/fundraiser. Around a hundred artists from around the state create unique works of art on plates (the art kind, not the eating kind) in their own style. Then the gallery opens and the plates go on sale. It's terrific exposure for emerging artists and a nice way to see many different styles and add a little something to your collection.

If I could give this place 10 stars - I would!!!…read more I've been going to AAU for 2.5 years now - the studio creates a wonderful community that supports one another. I love going to silks, trapeze and performance classes to not only work on my skills - but to hang out and laugh with my friends!! I consider it a form of therapy, while also keeping me in shape. I've never considered myself a "dancer" - but I started aerials in my 30s when I bought a groupon for a San Diego studio while I lived there. Is the practice humbling? Always!! But - if you stick to it, will you succeed?! Oh heck yeah!!! The incredible teachers at AAU have worked their magic and have even given me wonderful opportunities to perform around town!! Something I've always dreamed of, but NEVER thought I could do!! Did I mention how AMAZING the teachers are here?! Many of them have studied at some of the top circus schools across the country. Classes are offered in (usually) 7-week sessions and usually have around 10 students (and 1 or 2 teachers). If you miss a week, you can use the money towards coming to open gym (time where you get to practice your skills on an apparatus). Safety is #1 - the skills are taught step-by-step so you always feel comfy. I HIGHLY recommend trying out aerials at this studio if you're at all interested. Friday evenings they hold an intro class, so you can dip your toe in without committing to a full session. I will warn you - you may get addicted like a lot of us in the studio!!!

They did take precautions and our class was small. I appreciated that as our instructor took the time to help us with ideas and to learn the process. They also teach you a little about marketing if you were to start your own jewelry business. I haven't been able to go back since, but I look forward to taking more classes and create more pieces as I practice the art. They have a variety of other classes they offer as well.
