Dr. Mary E. Callsen is truly unsuitable as a clinician. If you are not already worried or scared about symptoms, or frustrated due to unexplained health concerns, chances are that you will be after an office visit with her.
Dr. Callsen is an apparent "object lesson", illustrating a person who has selected a career in which they are notably unfit to participate and have ill-conceived motives for practicing.
Such motives may include greed, ego-gratification, or any number of even less understandable causes, not excluding personality disorders such as narcissistic, "borderline", or sociopathic tendencies.
In the case of any healthcare provider, those reasons can add up to a dangerous and personally unsympathetic experience for patients whom have chosen them as a treating doctor.
This doctor's repeatedly documented and almost universally appalling reputation, which can be easily examined via a simple Google search, is, from this reviewer's perspective, unquestionably justified.
My own personal experiences with her are appalling. I dropped her as a treating doctor after a few years of what should have been routine office visits.
I found Callsen rude, condenscending, generally uncommunicative, inaccurate and capable of verbalizing absolutely incorrect diagnoses with equally incorrect justifications for her conclusions or no justification at all.
The "best" example I can think of is an office visit during which she stated: "Rheumatoid Arthritis is easily and conclusively diagnosed in one office visit". In fact Rheumatoid Arthritis is diagnosed via a process of elimination of other diseases over time and not by any sole factor. It always takes months or even years to accurately diagnose; also, Rheumatoid Arthritis is diagnosed via a process of elimination of other diseases over time and not by any sole factor. She followed her erroneous announcement with:
- A question about the "reason" that I was not sure if I have Rheumatoid arthritis. The answer, obvious to me, was that I had no joint damage visible after a number of years following my initial diagnosis.
- No offer of her own opinion about my past diagnosis of R.A. from two former specialists (never indicating whether in her opinion I do have rheumatoid arthritis or not).
- She never bothered to attempt to justify her incredibly inaccurate comment. On my next office visit with her, I arrived at her office with a stack of tests, reports and examination-summaries that I had undergone over the prior seven-year period for the purpose of accurately diagnosing my symptoms of pain in the joints and intermittent swelling. Her response? - a blank look...nothing.
That was the last time I was willing to consider her as a treating physician (in 2016). To this day, she remains a standout as a "never again" experience in medicine for me. There were numerous other examples that would only prolong this review but they were equally perplexing to say the least.
I recommend anyone considering her as a physician to read some of the many alarmingly negative anecdotes available on various healthcare provider-review websites written about Dr. Callsen before visiting her. If you do, it will be almost impossible to ignore these opinions because they were written by a diverse group of people over a considerably long period of time. Some of them are chilling to read, especially if you are a past patient, because you will undoubtedly be able to relate to these peoples horrified feelings. read more
