My overall experience with calmada is terrible. We were completely mislead by the oh so nice owners. This place was recommended by our friends at a local business as a new venue looking for couples getting married. It's safe to say that they are not looking for locals and are looking for out of towners. I say this because we had two meetings. The first one was just to check it out. That meeting went great which was why it was misleading. The second one was to see how everything can fit in our budget(which they promised they could do) & to go over the details. Keep in mind before the 2nd meeting we had emailed back and forth about our budget and they promised they could work with our budget. Just like everyone else, I said a lower budget than the actual so I could have wiggle room for upgrades and such. At this unfriendly meeting there was absolutely no customer service, there was no discussion on how we can customize a package to fit what we were looking for and in fact they added more costs that we were told didn't exist in the first meeting. This meeting was ran by the chef. When he started seeing we weren't scared off by his prices (because again, it was within our actual budget) he continued to be rude and tried to disagree with anything we said (barely could squeeze a few words in from him rambling). And the owners just sat there. Smiling. As if EVERY single thing we were told in the first meeting never happened. Even when we brought up their contradicting statements, they let the chef talk down to us for even bringing it up. Absolutely ridiculous. And in all honesty? I personally felt like the chef was judgmental and prejudice. But here's the breakdown of the venue for those interested in the place:
--Accommodations: The house itself is gorgeous inside. Each room is unique, clean and has cute decor. The master suite? Absolutely love it. This is what sold the place to me.
--Venue: the fence around the pool won't look that great in photos. They do not provide anything but the rooms. You have to hire a rental company for everything from chairs, dance floors to China and napkins. It's apparently pretty windy and they require you to order a tent for your reception. I personally wanted this location for the beautiful stars.. the tent would take away from that.
--Catering: The chef is absurd. He thinks so highly of himself you might forget it's YOUR wedding. He runs the show, not the owners and most definitely not the payer aka you. It's to the point if you piss him off or not give him what he wants.. he will most likely sabotage your event. According to the way he comes off. I haven't tried his food. I can't review on the quality.
--Customer service: Don't let the French accents fool you. They draw you in and are fulfilled with great promises till it comes down to business. Everything they promised isn't in the contract. And IF you catch it and bring it to their attention the chef will tell you why they can't provide it in a way it makes you feel like you're being cheap. When in fact, it was part of the verbal agreement. Need evidence on their customer service and etiquette? Check the negative reviews on here and facebook.. look at their responses. Proof.
This place has potention IF THEY CHANGE THEIR MANAGEMENT (OWNERS HIRE AN ACTUAL EVENT PLANNER) AND PUT THE CHEF IN HIS PLACE. HE'S A CHEF, NOT AN EVENT PLANNER. read more
