We were grateful for that. You also need to be aware, they have an open campus. Kids 13 and above can not only leave campus to go to the store or the library, but they can also "chaperone" younger kids to go along with them. I do not know of any 13 year olds that could fend off an abductor or stop a car, or protect a child from injury. Even if the school had been perfect in every way, that would have been the nail in the coffin. I'm sorry but for $21,500 annual tuition, I would expect the place to be clean and organized. They currently have 13 kids enrolled. I would also expect books and information to be current. There is no working AC. Makes one wonder where the $21k per student goes? Most of the building, supplies, furniture, games, etc. were run down, raggedy even. Very disappointing. We compared this to The Open School (virtual) and were so disappointed. Also, if you are looking for cultural diversity (my grandson is Filipino/American) this is not the place for your child. We were very clear with my grandson that he could make the decision on this school. His decision was he never wanted to go back there. The Sudbury model is such a great educational theory. But this school is a very poor representation of that model. There is a Waldorf school in Walnut Creek, you may want to look at that.

This school will teach your daughter that she is less than her male schoolmates. For example, during a coed civics class the boys claimed that the woman victim in the famous Miranda case (the case that enshrined the right for every suspect to be informed of their legal rights in a language they could understand) should have been raped if she suffered such an offense! This conversation was glossed over by the school administration. No pupil or instructor suffered any disciplinary action. In fact, by being offended by the assertion that the female victim in the Miranda case should have been raped rather than have her purse stolen, I was made to feel like an outcast. I can not stress it enough. If you value your daughter's autonomy and her sense of self, do not send her to this school.

Some of the things we especially appreciated were the convenient hours (7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.), three meals provided each day, washing of sleeping bags and water bottles, and the wonderful variety of daily activities, including sports and music. We were especially fortunate to have Ms. Celi as our son's teacher. She updated the parent app every day with incredible detail about the children's activities, curriculum, and plenty of photos. In terms of academics, my almost 4 year old can count to 40, knows the ABCs and write his name. All in all, LGA makes life easy for parents, especially working parents. Pure & Simple has a great ratio of kids to care provider (Tara), and kids usually consistently attend for long periods of time, although she can also take kids for short periods of time if needed. (My daughter has had the same daycare best friend for the entire time she has been there.) Tara also works to ensure that kids are not coming to daycare sick, which means that I can count the number of times that I have had to miss work due to a daycare-derived illness on one hand. (We have been especially grateful of this in the midst of COVID, given that both my husband and I are "essential" workers...Tara has adjusted quickly to any changes in licensing requirements due to the pandemic and kept everyone healthy and happy.) Overall, we've loved working with Tara and her family for the past two years, and will miss her terribly.
