I hear the gospel every single time I visit New City. Unfortunately, I often have to wade through a bunch of watered-down silliness before I hear the gospel. There are way too many performance elements. No one likes feeling like they are the audience at a school assembly. There isn't much feeling of the sacred here. The songs are all powerpoint and praise music, which I find inaccesible (and even sometimes theologically incorrect). I wish New City Fellowship would develop and embrace a Reformed identity, because it would be exceptional if they could only combine the love and passion they already have with Biblical worship.

New City is a lovely church. The harsh reviews are over the top considering this church is barely 2…read moreyears old! It does not lead with multiculturalism or cultural Reformed-ness. Rather it leads with Jesus Christ, savior and Lord. Christ is preached from every text during the sermons. The pastors are well-trained theologically but instead of showing how smart they are with esoteric and aloof rhetoric they teach simply. The lead pastor strives to reach everyone God sends to the church with clear and passionate messages. The messages are passionate because when you are a sinner who has been saved by grace emotion is inevitable. New City is far from a theatrical church but it does make room for culturally diverse expressions of praise. The members and visitors are diverse and includes students, college professors, formerly homeless or incarcerated individuals, children, and those who use English as their second language. The harsh reviews are likely from "culturally" Reformed people who find more comfort in churches that would strive to maintain homogeneity instead of serving all people. If you are white and are annoyed by any church that does not cater to your cultural identity, this church will not fit for you. As a matter of fact it will drive you crazy which is probably exactly what you need in order to make sure that you are worshipping the God of the bible and not the "American middle class Jesus". The church serves a meal every Sunday in order to support intentional fellowship. The church is also mindful of the college students and the working poor who are especially blessed by this meal. The music is designed to help ALL people come together and worship God. You will hear a mix of traditional hymns, contemporary Christian, and traditional Black Gospel music. If you are at a multicultural church and you like every bit of it.....its not multicultural. Its simply a place that caters to your preferences.

The messages are very powerful and speak to us. All three pastors have a heart for God. It is obvious that this church is growing spiritually. The passion for Jesus is so apparent. The music is also very powerful. Our granddaughters love the kids church and can't wait to attend. Would strongly recommend you come experience this church and see how amazing it is.

I am unable to make it to sedans in person but was in dire need of help with my rent unfortunately due to circumstances couldn't get the money for rent this month. They denied me because the trailor park I live in said they will deny help they offered to grace me with but instead of fighting to help someone who was looking to get back to church they chose the business before helping someone in dire help to not be homeless and lose the chance of something bigger to me than this house. Though my house will be my saving grace to what matters most to me that I could have lost but will continue fighting for. I see where their loyalties lie now. Not to mention when I thought they were open on weekdays how they brought up I must be catholic made me wonder on their loyalties to the lord as well. even though catholicism was around long before other God loving religions that pop up nowadays. With that I say God bless all who attends and I'm sure they make great babysitters well but not for my children. Good luck and as always have fun.

I decided to check this church out since I used to attend a Free Methodist Church many years ago…read more The name of this church has recently changed and it is no longer the Zeeland Free Methodist Church. It's new name is the Waypoint Community Church. I asked the pastor after the service if it is still a Free Methodist Church or if it was a non-denominational church since to me the new name sounded like a non-denominational church name. He assured me that it is still a Free Methodist church which for me is a good answer. . The pastor's sermon here today was Biblically sound and I am looking forward to checking a couple of facts that he stated. Realistically I have faith that he was telling the truth about some Bible passages and their meanings, but I try to not take anybody's word as the gospel truth and to double check what a preacher says in his sermon. In the past I've been surprised by how often some pastors (I am NOT say this churches pastor) take scriptures out of context to force them to support the topic of their sermon. The pastor here seems to be a good speaker and certainly came across as a very well educated man and brought up some thought provoking and a couple times funny points. I can't say if I will make this my new church home since I've only visited once and it will take several more visits to get a real feel for the church and the pastor. If I forgot to mention it I was greeted by a large number of people who recognized that I was a visitor so they certainly pass on being willing to make a newcomer feel welcome. Overall, a real pleasant experience and most importantly good solid preaching that taught me several new things to research and make me a little better informed. I'm looking forward to visiting this church some more in the coming weeks.
