Well, I've certainly been missing out because during my recent daytime mosey of this mob scene of a strip (complete with old timers taking a bus tour of Scialo Bros... oy vay!) I happend upon the treasure trove that is Diva's Palace. Clearly I've heard of it. Clearly I knew it was going to be good. But, THIS good? I had no idea. The boutique is quirky, beautiful, insane and fun - exactly what you want in a shopping experience, right? The electric blue and gold walls are lined with eccentric pieces like floaty leopard print skirts, adorable denim over-all dresses and even a few airy cotton tops. But the sweet spot? Their jewelry. Oh. My. Goodness. Truth be told, I went a little insane. I've been looking for a cool yet classy statement necklace to go with a somewhat demure dress, and I had no idea the mother load that was within Diva's Palace. Most of their pieces are made in-house and are totally exquisite and truly one-of-a-kind. I zeroed in on a three-stranded black pearl masterpiece that I thought I couldn't live without, until the darling and kind Jimmy pulled out an absolute show-stopper of a crystal necklace strung with salvaged Murano glass beads that were originally part of a chandelier. Sounds over-the-top, perhaps but I assure you, it's elegant and chic and very cool. After falling in love with that item, he brought me a geometric plate bib necklace that happened to go perfectly with the ensemble I wore that day. I was in love with both, and he knew it. What this man did next was so old school and so charming, it will keep me going back to Diva's palace again and again - he went into the back, where the owner, Michael, was making more of these treasures and they discussed the pricing options if I decided to purchase both. With a generous discount applied and heaps of style advice from Michael and Jimmy, I walked out of Diva's with a spring in my step, two gorgeous necklaces and a new favorite West Side shopping destination. I love the wooden draws towards the back so much! It gives the shop a lot of charm. Service here is always wonderful---always very positive interactions. I love the range of prices here. I expected everything to be super expensive since it's a boutique in Providence but they have a nice range, plus sales and clearance and marked down sample sale items! I decided to check out the new arrivals and the clearance area since they had a sign posted online about the deals. I also need two or three new shirts since my old ones were pretty stinky and old. I selected a pair of shoes and four shirts while I was in the store.

You do get the occasional happy girl behind the counter at Nike on Newbury, but everyone else is pure molasses. Then I walked into Under Armour at the Pru, and everything changed. First, that ginormous torso with the Patriots t-shirt is just plain cool, but it gets better. I honestly felt like I was in Lululemon or Kit & Ace, where staff really engage you. I walked in there originally looking for sweatpants, but staff were so engaging that I walked out with 4 different types, and to this day, love every one of them. I'm hoping this isn't just new store enthusiasm, and really want to enjoy coming back in the future. For now though, this is the only sports retail store I look forward to on future shopping trips, and as always, their products are top notch. Keep it up!

The silks are up front, most $35 / yard, so I had a brief sticker shock. But that of course is a good price for real silk, and the prices throughout the rest of the store were right in my comfort zone, especially 9.99/yd for upholstery, with a spectacular selection. I bought 4 yards to make patio drapes, just enough to test what it might look like. It's the kind of store that makes you want experiment, try things out, and that's my favored kind of store.
