I was very happy with my experience with Roadrunner for a roundtrip between Simi Valley and LAX…read more My domestic flight was leaving at 7:30 am and the reservation system for the shared ride suggested a 5:45am estimated arrival time. I wanted to arrive at least 2 hours prior to get through TSA and to have a decent breakfast before the flight, so I overrode it and requested 5:15am arrival. My confirmation call informed me that my pickup time would be 3:45 am which seemed extremely early, but I accepted it because I could not afford to miss this flight. The driver was a friendly gentleman who arrived on time and got us (picked up a 3rd passenger) to LAX around 4:40 am (no traffic jams). On my return trip, I only waited about 5 minutes for the driver after I made the pickup request call. I was the only passenger and the driver was very friendly and nice. The vans used for both trips were clean and seemed fairly new. I picked Roadrunner over Uber/Lyft because I wasn't sure I can trust some random driver picking me up around 4 am. I picked Roadrunner over Prime Time Shuttle because Prime Time outsources their service to Uber/Lyft (see aforementioned concern).

I always hate how dusty and dirty my car is whenever I park at the LAX long term parking lots. I'd much rather prefer getting some work done on my phone while letting the Roadrunner staff drive me back and forth. Their drivers are really nice. I always tip them well. The website is easy to work with, and I prefer using that over calling, but my wife prefers calling customer Service because she says they are always really nice over the phone. Whatever works for you.

I got a ride to the Moorpark station, it is very easy to find, well marked and good signage from the 118 (Los Angeles Avenue). Lots of parking, but not much shade here. This station is not designed to protect you from either the sun or rain, so be prepared. They have vending machines here where you can purchase your ticket using either a credit card or cash. The AMTRAK train also stops here. I took the Metrolink straight to the Burbank Airport. The train had 4 cars, one car is designed and marked for bicycles, so it is easy to transport a bike here. The train was very clean, even had bathrooms! they are double decker trains and wheelchair friendly. I sat on the upper level and had a great view! The trip was smooth, fast and fairly quiet. I think it took about 30 minutes to Burbank. Each stop is fairly short so you have to be prepared to disembark at your station. The cars are air conditioned. The cost of my trip was $4.75!! can't beat that! The stop at the Burbank airport is right across the street from the rental car agencies. There were 2 vans waiting at the station to transport people to the airport so it is super easy to get straight to the airport. From Thousand Oaks there are free shuttles available that take you to the Moorpark station. They pick up at the Oaks Mall, Cal Lutheran, and a few other places, check TOT.org - not sure about the website. (Thousand Oaks Transit) for more information.

If you have the Amtrak App on your mobile device, you can check if the train is on time or delayed. It may or may not notify you of any delays longer than several minutes. You can easily purchase train tickets via App & use the App to have your ticket scanned. On a side note: Yes, you can still get paper tickets printed out, inside the station. There's someone behind the counter that can assist you with tickets. Or you can use the kiosk. Amtrak is a great alternative especially nowadays with gas prices. Had a few trips back & forth to Santa Barbara which was nice. Don't forget to grab a treat or a drink at Dolce Vita which is located inside the station.

Love not having to worry about traffic. Stress free. The WiFi isn't great though , that was a bummer. They sell food and booze on board. You are not allowed to bring your own liquor, you will be kicked off the train. They said that multiple times. Next summer , I'll get the multi ride package as I find myself in SB a lot in the summer. It's a nice little change of scenery. I always ride during the day and have felt safe. Unsure how it is at night but this area can be rough. Staff is nice and trains are pretty clean. Plus , we have a great coffee spot at this Amtrak .. Dolce Vita. A must !!!!

We visited town for a few days from SD for Cowboys Training Camp, and lucked out by meeting the coolest cabbie ever when we got off the train. Manuel was very cool about letting us know that it was a $5 flat fee to our hotel, but if we wanted to stop by the liquor store as we'd requested, then he'd have to run the meter. We were of course fine with that, and appreciated his honesty. For the next several days, we called him whenever we needed a ride to the training camp, the salsa festival, various restaurants, bars, etc., and he was the epitome of customer service. He showed up exactly when he said he would, was courteous, gave us info about Oxnard (we'd never been there before), found some tourist pamphlet stuff for us, recommended restaurants and nicely warned us away from one we wanted to try but he knew had a really horrible rep with the health dept. At any rate, if you need a cab in Oxnard - you've got to give him a call. Manuel's direct number is 805-509-9274, and his dad Gabriel (speaks mostly Spanish) is at 805-844-5739. That's all - a nice, friendly, two-man family operation. Tell 'em Kristin & Steven sent ya!!! You won't regret it.
