I'm pretty sure this is one of the only libraries in the area that is actually quiet. I love this library.

I've been here with my child for several story times. The library itself is small and unassuming,…read morebut they've dedicated a large portion of the library for children's books. There are also a few toys for the kids and a computer at their level. After story time is over they oftentimes have a craft or fun thing to do after. Outside of the children's area they have a nice selection of books and several computers. They have easy parking right around the corner.

Thank you Fort Vancouver Regional Library District for said entertainment. This library has gone down hill since I was little. Yes, I have used this library for as long as I can remember. I don't know if it is necessarily the library's fault considering the space they are in and the community they serve. The building this branch is in is attached to a community center of sorts. The center serves free meals to seniors on some days so the food smell lingers in the library. It is not pleasant. This library is very tiny and very crowded. There are several computers bays, tables, chairs, and shelves randomly placed throughout the room. Tables are normally always packed with patrons that are playing card games that I'm guessing is Pokemon based on the fantastic geek talk going on. Shelves also go along the outside edges of the room but when I've gone in there recently there are many holes without books. Plus there doesn't seem to be much order to the books. I'm not sure if that's just the way they shelve here or if it is the patrons taking it upon themselves to put the books back. I hate trying to search for anything in here because of that very reason. I have only checked out books a couple of times in the last year here just because they have a book that I wanted to read but didn't feel like having it shipped to the Camas branch. The first time I checked out, I didn't realize they had a self checkout station because it wasn't properly marked. I stood at the counter as the librarian was checking books back in at the very same counter. Instead of her nicely directing me to the self checkout she just glared at me. Wow, way to be super friendly and helpful...at least a customer told me about it after she saw the glare. Now I know to use that anytime I need to check something out and hope I never have a question when that lady is working! Granted the only time I ever really want to use this branch of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District is to return books. There are three drop off boxes outside the building in the front so even when the library is closed on Sundays or Mondays I can still turn books in without having to drive that far. Plus it means I wouldn't have to go in to the tiny, cramped, smelly library.

The people here look very focused on their work. I saw many people on the computers and lots of kids around, which made it feel like such a lovely, welcoming space to be.

I've not had a chance to speak of the outdoor amenities until now. And what might be those outdoor parking lot amenities be? Well they are three new-ish Blink machines! OK, she's gone around the bend this time for sure. No, no stick with me! Blink machines are outdoor chargers for all-electric cars (and for hybrids). You have to apply for the card and it works like a credit card at the gas pump. It's a little more complex than that, but the Blink card and a guardian angel saved Ron and I a miserable afternoon after going up to Multnomah Falls and then running out of charge. Our dear guardian angel charged up a Blink machine for us and saved the day. This is a great place to have the Blink machines because this library is located near the freeway entrances. It's just plain a relief for electric car owners to have them there. I'm trying to do my part to get the word out. Thanks so much Multnomah County Library system for going above and beyond the call of duty!

My boys went there for activities, and the books we brought home were enough to last a week. I love it when we went there to vote, I was a member of the election board. My neighbor was doing that, and I asked her how she got in. She told me to fill my name down on a card & handed me one, and the following year, they have a supervisor that retired and I was instant supervisor until Mail-in Ballots got in my way! Dh went there to read the newspaper, since we stopped subscribing, and I did a lot of research on the net, while there . . . . can order books for delivery from other branches. Since it's so close from home, I sometimes go there to learn new tricks. I learned how to do the fabric Japanese flowers during one of their Asian week, and in return I am now helping raise money for the Japanese Tsunami AND teaching women from my church make them for our bazaar. How cool is that! We have a lot of Asians now in my neighborhood, so Vietnamese speaking have been added, and other Asian activities. I have a neighbor who I passed by when I go to the library, who have lived in the neighborhood after we moved in, who HAVE NOT been inside the library, not even once. . . . .only to vote. Well, guess what? She had missed so much . . . but last Monday, dh saw her there! It is not too late to enjoy what's out there, and we paid for that library's remodeling. Another improvement they did, was the bathroom. Not just anyone can go in to mess it up or plug the toilets. They are more lighted & can be seen (not hidden like a dark alley like before) who goes in & out so people can hear a child scream if they're in trouble. What I hate? I wish they don't keep updating books! Who cares if they're old. . . . . The olden days are gone, but books shouldn't have expiration dates. Go to the Book of Kells, do they replace books there?

This is a Pokemon gym people! Red team
