I was on my way to Sayler's and forgot to print the coupon they used to run during the week, where you got $10 off a dinner, so I thought I'd pop in here, use the computer and print it out. I did have to wait for about 15 minutes for a computer, but that flies by in a library. They were very nice and I ended up checking books out for a trip i was taking.

Stay to the right of the lot as there are no traffic direction signs of any sort. You'll see it. Big white box. Having never been here before, I had trouble for a minute. But I found it and dropped off a ballot for my area.

I've been a fan of Multnomah County Libraries, and my home library (Gresham Central) for many…read moredecades. During the pandemic, I lost the habit of stopping by the branch, and instead started having my books on hold delivered by mail. But recently I decided to stop by the library again to use it as a bit of a co-working facility. It is just such a great place. The Gresham branch has plenty of parking. It is full of resources available to everyone. The library itself is full of light, and has just enough background activity to be interesting, while still being quiet enough to get some work done.

I've not had a chance to speak of the outdoor amenities until now. And what might be those outdoor parking lot amenities be? Well they are three new-ish Blink machines! OK, she's gone around the bend this time for sure. No, no stick with me! Blink machines are outdoor chargers for all-electric cars (and for hybrids). You have to apply for the card and it works like a credit card at the gas pump. It's a little more complex than that, but the Blink card and a guardian angel saved Ron and I a miserable afternoon after going up to Multnomah Falls and then running out of charge. Our dear guardian angel charged up a Blink machine for us and saved the day. This is a great place to have the Blink machines because this library is located near the freeway entrances. It's just plain a relief for electric car owners to have them there. I'm trying to do my part to get the word out. Thanks so much Multnomah County Library system for going above and beyond the call of duty!

This is our local branch and we love it here…read more We participate in their monthly craft event called "Make Anything", where you can pick up a free kit and follow along virtually at home. They always host fun events that adults can participate in! We also take advantage of their board game collection! When you filter by their 3-D objects in their catalog, they have 100s of board games to borrow. You can only borrow 2 at a time but they have recent and interesting games.

As someone who struggles with chronic illness, I came here to do some studying so I can advocate for myself medically. I was able to gather the materials I needed and find a nice quiet spot with a beautiful view of the trees. Outside they had their pride flag flying high and that made me extremely happy to see that they are also very inclusive! The only downside was one child who was screaming on the computer for a good 10 minutes, but he eventually left. Other than that, I truly love the atmosphere here!

It's been about 10 years since I last visited the Midland Library, and wow--what a difference. I…read moreknew they remodeled a few years back, but I finally had the chance to come in today, and it honestly feels like a brand-new space. The library feels so much more spacious than before. I really love the natural light coming through the windows, and the paintings and decorations throughout the building make the whole place feel calming and welcoming. It's the kind of environment that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. They also have several conference rooms, ranging from larger rooms to smaller ones, which is great for meetings or quiet study time. On top of that, there's a dedicated kids' area where children can read, play, and just enjoy being in a space designed for them. Overall, this is an easy 5/5. An excellent place to bring your kids, read some books, or just enjoy a peaceful, well-designed library. I'm really glad I came back.

It almost gets 5 stars because, good God, the previous and totally inadequate library for the…read moreClackamas / Sunnyside / Happy Valley area was shoved into 2 adjacent spaces in a strip mall adjacent to the Clackamas Town Center named Clackamas Corner. It was a sad excuse for a library, but it probably reflected the area's previous bucolic nature. It was reported that, about 25 years ago, the Sunnyside corridor was mostly berry farms. The Happy Valley Library is in a building that is newer and far removed from the mall and the major junction of Sunnyside Rd. and I-205. In a way, this is good and bad. It's good because the location is bigger and newer, but a lot of the catchment area for this library, such as the patron base who lives closer to SE 82nd Avenue, doesn't have the ability to get around, and needs a library's services can't get here as easily. I don't remember what used to be in this newer, larger building. It wasn't designed as a library from scratch, though. The Happy Valley Library is comparable to the West Linn Library of the Clackamas County System in its size and level of services. However, the personalities are very different. This one is very spacious and open, while the West Linn Library is cozier and has more nooks and crannies. The service here is about on par with that of West Linn's, where it is good but a little cool. Is there a connection between gray skies and books that makes library employees more somber? I once walked into a library in Las Vegas only to be greeted with a "sunny disposition." I'll stay on topic. Also, this library is located in an area that appears to be "planned," with a shopping center in front, and a traffic circle with small businesses and park-like features around it. Simply stated, this is a very good neighborhood library.

There is an eating area on the main floor where you can snack while you read. The children's floor has lots of books and a big play area for kids. Lots of neat stuff on the every floors. Very clean and organized. I especially enjoyed the fifth and top floor. There is a terrace where you can sit and there is a garden area where you can look at the plants that are growing. Unfortunately because it was off season and in early September, so nothing was growing at the time. They even have a "Seed Library" where people donate their garden seeds to library. Readers can come up and see what was donated and take a packet of seeds to plant at home. Great idea to spread the wealth of seed planting. This library is within walking distance to restaurants and Regal Movie theatre. Great location for readers to stop by and borrow a book and just enjoy the reading materials they have chosen. I found this library to have many good amenities.

And an entire play area. Not slides and swings, but learning and creativity play area. They can go inside sculptures and spin the wheels to make things glow. So cool! I didn't get to check out too much of the actual library set up, but did notice you can check out Activity Bags, which are bags that have a theme and it looked like books, games, activities, surrounding certain themes for kids. The kids area was amazing with books at his level, interactive play structures with a beautiful and fun nature theme. The reading nook was adorable and there were even a few toys out. We visited in the evening so it wasn't crowded but a mom and her son came to the area and told me on Tuesday's they had story time! We will be coming back for that next! The staff were very helpful and sweet as well. So grateful this is so close to us and we will be back so many times!
