We booked a private tour for our family of 5 to see Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral, and Averbury…read moreStone Circle and it worked very well. Definitely recommend booking a private tour especially if you're a large group - costs can compare favorably vs. a bus tour. Plus, the big bonus is the convenience and time savings. We were picked up right at our hotel (instead of having to trek to a meeting point), we could plan our own itinerary as we wished - and modify it along the way (which we did) and enjoyed the flexibility of staying as long as we wanted and choosing when and where to have lunch. Our driver was pleasant and not only was he on time for our pick-up, but he was early so we got a quicker start on our tour. We also appreciated that he was a safe driver too as well as very amenable and flexible to our ad-hoc changes but also offered suggestions to our itinerary that worked out well. The only thing I might suggest for added convenience of private tours is if International Friends wcould offer to book entry tickets for sites like Stonehenge for you instead of having to book such things separately yourself. However, we were very pleased with their service and how well it worked out.

While still in London we witnessed the aftermath of a bike accident and he exclaimed: "There are too many bikes on the road! Look another (accident)! I love it!" He then proceeded to get involved in fender bender he caused by being overly aggressive behind the wheel. It did not help when he pointed out the other driver 'drove like a woman'. En-route to Highclere we all learned his opinion of the US presidential candidates. Needless to say they were not positive. I don't know about you but when I am traveling away from the US, I do not need a lesson in good/bad politics. Just show me the sights. As soon as I could, I walked away from Tony becuase even his opinions of the characters of Downton were annoying. ("Mary was a slut. Mathew was a wimp".) But if all of this was not enough, post-tour a travel companion wrote a letter to the owner of this travel tour company describing her discontentment. Instead of getting a response saying thank you and we will look into this matter...hope it will not discourage you from traveling with us again...she got a less than satisfactory note defending Tony; attempting to discredit her views because according to Tony none of these things happened. He concluded: "You did not like your driver/guide but I guess, not everyone gets along with everyone." I am not fond of writing this type of review and would have been willing to pass it off to just an annoying guide during an otherwise great day. But after seeing the owner's poor response, I have concluded I cannot support a company that has miserable customer service policies.

I wish I had completed the tour earlier in my trip because that would have given me time to revisit some of the spots. In addition, other areas of interest were pointed out during the tour. I like the tour is free because I can just show up during a time that works for me rather than make a reservation and need to change / cancel it later. If you're in the city as a tourist, plans may change without notice, so having flexibiluty is really nice. Well done !

He covered over 1000 years of history over the two hour walk. We started at Trafalgar Square, through Royal London (seeing the beginning and up close changing of the guard) then to St. James Park, on to Downing Street, Big Ben and so many other great historical locations. There is no cost for the tour, and the guides work solely on tips, but there was no pressure at all to do so. We tipped 20 pounds and it was worth every penny. You can tell Andrew loves what he does, and likes meeting new people. It was so good we went back for the 6:30 pm London's Ghostly Haunts Walk, but were 7 minutes late and missed it. TIP: Get there on time!

Sinead is very…read moreknowledgeable about all the sites and gave great recommendations on things to do and places to eat. She also had a personal microphone so it was easy to hear her in a big group. When people got separated from the group, she sent them her location and we were able to regroup. She was very personable and we saw so much during our time together. I did the tour on a Saturday at 10:00 am. Tour began outside Green Park Station. It was easy to find the tour guide. This tour is 6 hours and I saw sites in Westminster, City of London, and additional sights. There is a lunch break halfway through the tour. The tour ends outside the Tower of London. To name a few, we saw Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, 10 Downing St., Churchill War Rooms, Trafalgar Square. We didn't go inside the places, just the outside of it. Though there was no changing of the palace guards on Saturday due to preparations for the coronation and Easter, we were able to see changing of the horse guard. Sinead knew exactly where to stand to have the best view. Sinead also has YouTube videos so definitely check out her channel if you are traveling to London. We did free tour with Dave. He was super great! When we did this tour it was on and off raining. So these tours happen rain or shine. The tour was focused on the castle aka the royal tour. We were taken to many photo spots and I love all the context we get. Dave the tour guide was so knowledgeable and super kind. Yes, you can go online to learn the history, but you will not learn the little tidbits about areas or key figures. I highly recommend any tours with Sandeman's. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a Travel Agent…read more Myself and a friend booked an end of degree, once in a life time trip to Peru and Bolivia which was totally ruined by the incompetency and rudeness of staff at this branch of STA. After talking to an assistant for over an hour about which dates we wished to book, we ended up leaving the shop thinking we had booked onto the trip we wished to attend. However, it was not until two week before our trip, when we ourselves had to chase up our travel vouchers (which we were told would be sent to us before this!), that we noticed we had been booked onto the wrong dates. The company refused to change our booking for us as the date we wished to attend was now fully booked. They insisted they sent us an email with the receipt of our original booking, which they did not. When we requested to talk to the manager of the branch we were informed that they were away and there was no one to deal with our problem. When we told them to ask the person who booked our holiday to see if he could remember us and the booking he made for us we were informed that the person had been fired from the company (does this not ring alarm bells to the company as well!!). We then asked to speak to the regional manger who came to visit us in branch. This woman was very rude to us, even making my friend cry in front of her. STA refused to accept any responsibility for the problem stating that everything was booked for that date on the computer and that the computer was never wrong. What they refused to admit was that the human that inputs dates into the computer could have done so wrongly by just the click of one button. What makes this even more non-senseikle is the fact that we send confirmation emails to STA with out outbound and return flights which we had booked ourselves, which were for the dates we thought we were attending. Did no one notice then that the dates did not match up? Furthermore, before booking this trip we had previously booked onto a shorter trip starting on the date we wished to start on. Why then when we extended the trip to a longer one would we want to move the trip to 4 days later? In the end we offered STA a get out, saying that they would have to pay for our extra 4 nights accommodation and travel because of their mistake. However, we were told that STA would not even accommodate this request, and as such we ended up forking out even more money for accommodation and travel because of their mistake. I would STRONGLY recommend people NOT TO USE THE CAMBRIDGE STA OR STA IN GENERAL. This experience was very nagative and ruined an expensive (£2500) once in a lift time holiday. If you want to do one of their tours then book directly through Gap Adventures, which is the company that STA Travel use.
