First, the best views of Cambridge are from the River Cam. You will get a whole different perspective of the city from the river than you will from the road. You must go on a punting tour.
My friends and I took a day trip to Cambridge to see the sights and drink a couple of pints. We started our day with a punting tour with Let's Go Punting. I booked tickets online to get the 20% discount and then followed the instructions on the tickets to the meeting point.
When we got to the meeting point, there was a punting sign but it was not for the Let's Go Punting tour company. There was also no human to be found at said meeting point. I called the number on the sign and the nice gentleman informed me that I needed to find "Simon" further down the pier as he is in charge of Let's Go Punting.
As I walked down the pier, I spotted someone who looked like he could be Simon and he approached us and asked if we wanted a tour. I asked him if he was Simon and he said yes and then I informed him that we had purchased tickets online and that the instructions on his tickets were incorrect. He then stated that sometimes they setup shop at the end of the pier and other times, at this end of the pier to "intersect customers."
Slightly annoyed at the hassle I had to go through to find Let's Go Punting, we made our way back down to the end of the pier we had just come from with our guide and about 7 other guests. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and was excellent. Our guide, Alex, was great even though he had only been a guide for about 10 days. It was a shame my friends and I were the only ones who tipped him. Come on people, these guides are students - give them a Pound at least! They work their butts off pushing that pole into the water whist talking for 45 minutes straight!
Unfortunately, due to the hassle I had to go through to find the Let's Go Punting "stand", I had to knock one star off the rating. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars. read more
