Their pricing model is TERRIBLE. You now have to pay $169 just for the session (you don't get any copy of your photos, not even digital). If you want your own photos then you must buy a package which starts at $189. Who would pay for a session and not want their own photos so you have to buy a package. It never use to be this way. After tip it ended up being about $450. Use to love them but will not be going back. read more

I've used camera shy in the past and loved it but this time was not good at all. First, apparently the process changed and not only do you pay for the session you have to pay for prints (which has been a nightmare to pick up). So we ended up paying way more this time. So I'm a bit more critical on the service. First of all my newborn was really fussy so that was difficult. But her bow in most of the photos is squished on one side (for the price I paid, I expect the photographer to catch that). Also it took forever for them to get my 11×14's printed. Then they finally called me they said someone would be there that evening but we couldn't make it then. We've now dropped by 5 times (during posted open hours), with no one there. Called multiple times with no answer and voicemail full. So I finally started texting them and they said someone is there now and at 2pm. But I work so I can't make it and they said to call and get an appt but I informed them I wish I could but no one answers. Then they said they would have them reach out. Here's to hoping we get our photos we spent a lot on. Not to mention when having them print out 8×10's at my preview apt they started a photo session and forgot about me, while I had my 3 young children with me (in the tiny salon), when they said it would be 5 min. I waited about a half hour then I finally went to get the photographers attention and they said "oh I thought so and so was going to do it." I hate leaving bad reviews but this experience has been outright horrible. read more

I highly recommend holding gratuity until after you see pictures. I was going to give our photographer (Elisa) $80 cash at the photo review. But after seeing our pictures am I glad I waited. We took family pictures and only got two to pick from and neither one was any good. Every picture they picked out had somebody crying and/or looking at the floor. During the shoot Elisa said "what a happy baby she is", "she is just so happy!" But the only pix she chose the baby was crying or upset. And I mean all of them, from all poses! I ended up using the $80. I was going to give as a gratuity towards swapping heads. (Head swapping cost $40 each) You're supposed to be able to review your pictures same day you take them. They made us come back two days later to review. You're supposed to get your non-mounted, prints, the same day you order. I have to go back a third time to pick up those prints. It now takes two weeks for them to do a head swap so I'll have to go back a fourth time to approve the head swap and get my actual family pictures printed. I was told when I made the appointment the sitting fee was $199. At checkout they charged me $398 they said they had to "change it to an extended sitting fee", but nobody said anything until checkout. read more

I did my family photos in September at the Camera Shy in daybreak and the photographer was definitely an armature. When I am paying over $200 for photos I expect the photographer to have quite a bit of experience. When I scheduled my photos, I put in the comments section that I have an infant and a 4 year old. When we came to our photo session which was outside the photographer didn't bring anything to put the infant in or a blanket to put her on for the pictures. My husband also wears transmission lens glasses and she never once mentioned how dark they were in the photos. We receive a couple of okay photos but honestly I was pretty disappointed. I thought I would give this place one more chance because it's literally 5 minutes from my house for my daughter's first birthday pictures and again I was very disappointed. The photographer although a different one was also very inexperienced. My daughter's hair should have been fixed a few times while taking the pictures. Which honesty I had to fix a few times myself which should be the photographer's job to do. Also there were a few pictures where my daughter's face wasn't even in the pictures which I thought to be odd. I loved having one phot of just the smash cake but that's all I needed was just the one. Therefore because of the experiences I have had I will not be coming back. We got my other daughter's first birthday pictures at a different studio which is down town but I'm willing to drive there because I know I'm going to get the quality I deserve for what I'm paying. read more

Camera shy is always hit or miss. It was my first time coming to this location (daybreak/south jordan). I've been to the Jordan landing location in the past and have always had good experience there. I booked a mini bunny session at this location to try out a different studio. Staff was nice and studio was clean. However, for the price I'm paying ($140 is pretty pricey for getting only a few images) I wish the photographer had more training. She seemed young and probably didn't know how to work with kids. She gave no instructions on where to have my kids sit. She just said "sit wherever" Didn't get them to look at the camera or even smile. I had to be the one to rearrange my kids around and get them to smile or look at the camera. When I saw the images, they were ok but I was not loving them. Half my kids are looking at the camera and half are looking the other way. Half were smiling and half are not. I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I just said I was happy with them and we even tipped her good too. I'll include a pic so you can see what I mean. I left feeling super unhappy because $140 is a lot of money for somewhat liking one or two images that was taken by a teenager. I wanted to love this location but sadly won't be coming here anymore. read more

Before I jump into the review, I think it is important to share that prior to writing this, I contacted Camera Shy regarding my experience. I asked to either have a refund or the ability to get my session retaken by an experienced photographer, at another location. I have gone 1 week with no response. Last week I took my 6 month old and 10 year old in for pictures. Everything about it was bad. The staff were unprofessional and rude! The photographer didn't know how to take a good picture! The pictures are a joke! It was so bad that I wouldn't go back even if I had free sessions for life. If I could give it 0 stars I would. We started in the back room on the west side. I explained to the photographer that my 6 month old only sits supported and we had just celebrated my oldest 10th birthday - first double digit birthday! I wanted pics of them together and some individuals. The photographer asks what walls we like and we get started. She has the kids sit on the floor and then provides no direction of how my 10 year old is to hold my baby. The result is a lot of awkward poses and some weird top of the head shots. We move to the next wall and again, no direction + 10 year old holding baby = awkward poses = bad pictures. Move to next wall and individuals of 10 year old. After having explained it was the 10th birthday, she asks how old my 10 year old is but fails to ask a name. WTF?!? We move to the next room, which is in the back just across the hall. She asks about walls again and my 10 year old picks a wall. We start on the opposite wall on a couch. Just as before, no direction and well you get the rest. Next wall is with my 6 month old. She has her on an armless chair... my child who can't sit unsupported. I stood by her with my arms out stretched catching her every few minutes as she tipped over. She got a couple of pictures that would be okay if her clothes had not been all bunched from tipping so frequently. Not a single close up. One pose. That's all. We had been in the room for about 5 to 7 minutes at this point, and hadn't yet taken pictures in front of the wall my oldest picked, when another photographer walks in and says she needs the room and rushed us out. I ask to get some pics in front of the wall my oldest requested before we go, we get a few snapped - again not good, and move into the last room. Except.... nope! There is another photographer who has decided that she is going to start her session in that room. Her session is just starting and hasn't been in any of the rooms, but the last room and only room we haven't been in, is the room she has to use first. As such, our only optIon is to go back into the room we started in. We decided we were good, paid and left.. Of the 60 minute session, we were there for less than a half an hour and probably spent 10 to 15 minutes getting photographed. The experience was awful and the edited pictures are a joke. (I have included one of the 30 edited pictures I received from my session to provide proof that I'm not just being a picky brat about the pictures. If this is one of the good ones, imagine the bad ones.) Not to mention, although I received 30 pictures from my session, many were duplicate pictures with different filters. I don't think there is 1 picture I would print and hang on my wall. My hopes were high because of the experience I had at another location, but this studio and then the lack of response to the complaint... I just can't wrap my head around how they get repeat customers. FotoFly - where I will go back to - is priced competitively and you aren't going to have another photographer pushing you out of a room. read more

I'm going to be honest...it wasn't what we were expecting. Our photographer was 16 years old and it was her first day on her own. She didn't know how to use the equipment and should have asked for help sooner. She had no creative ideas, either. Now, I don't fault her, we are all allowed to be new, however I do blame camera shy for throwing her in the frying pan too soon. She was flailing about and had little direction. We got a few good pics, mostly it was the ones we took charge of and came up with poses and props ourselves. Husband had to help her repeatedly with the lamp. We decided to finish early because the whole experience was getting awkward when the lamp nearly clobbered her on the head. read more

I've used Camera Shy for many years for family photos and have always had a good experience... except for last week. Our photographer was obviously new. She didn't know how to check us in on the computer, didn't know how to work the light, didn't know how to pose us, didn't know how to do much of anything. At one point she asked my 7 year old son, "why are you being so awkward?" Like that was going to help him feel comfortable and smile in front of a camera?! Whoever is in charge- please look in your system at who took my pics and train her more or just let her go so no one else will have to experience what we did. read more

This is the second negative review I've ever posted in my entire life. I'm giving one star for the photographer being nice. She worked with us and was patient. This was my first time to this location. I've been to the Lehi location a few times and have been happy with the prints. I thought I would try the South Jordan location to change up the background options. Now I'm regretting it. The photographer was nice but seemed inexperienced, new to the job. I'm not unhappy with the day of photo shoot itself. Just the results and the management. For $150 I got 60 images emailed to me that I was not allowed to choose which ones and we took a ton at the photo shoot. I didn't even get to review any other pictures. I'm SO unhappy with the photos. The filter used made us all looked washed out and some of the poses we had to use looked SO awkward. I asked when I was reviewing the pictures that they chose, if I was allowed to review the rest of them and switch out some but they said I'm stuck with those. My family is a blended family of five kids and we were looking forward to taking pictures together for the first time after being married for three years. We put a lot of time into coordinating the outfits and getting ready that day. Everyone was excited to take pictures and get the results. Only to be super disappointed. Everyone HATED the pictures. I called camera shy to see if there were any options at all. The receptionist had to relay info between the manager and I as the manager would not speak with me. That I found was unprofessional and lacked quality customer service. I asked if there were any options we had. Considering the money and time we put into it. Like review other photos and choose some others? It was NO. Maybe change the filtering so we look more like ourselves and not washed out and sickly? It was NO. Maybe all or some money back? Another NO. Not even a freaking coupon could they give me or discount on the next photo shoot. They said there is "NOTHING they can do." Really? Nothing? I find that hard to believe. I'm not asking for much. They can't even do a coupon?! Really?! Lame. Don't go there. You'll be overcharged to have an under qualified underpaid photographer do your photos and you won't have any say in what you get. And no options if your unhappy with the results. Go somewhere else. My sister-in-law and her iPhone can do a better job. read more

I booked my maternity pics (chose outdoors) with Camera Shy and couldn't be happier. There are plenty of nice spots around Daybreak where we took some shots. The photographer wasted no time giving us recommendations for ways to pose and already knew of spots ahead of time that were picture worthy. I was able to take advantage of their grand opening special and booked my newborn pictures there too (chose indoors). The photographer did very well swaddling and calming my baby. Camera shy has many props and different walls to make the pictures just perfect. To top it off, they offer a military discount as well! I also appreciate the quick turn around. You don't have to wait long to get your downloads. They have them edited within 2 hrs for you to review. I have had pictures taken by professional photographers who make you wait a few weeks.
