The rates for overnight boarding have gone up dramatically in the past year or so. Buyer beware. Also, there's a $10 per day surcharge for boarding dogs on holidays. When I boarded my two little dogs over the weekend I did not expect to be hit with $40 surcharges plus additional sales taxes. That was a surprise. The owner came out and explained that while it wasn't a holiday, it was winter break for schools so I was charged holiday rates for both nights for each dog. She was also defensive. She said her rates "are competitive" with other dog boarding facilities. A check of online websites showed me that her statement is not accurate. Camp Bow Wow's rates are higher. Some kennels charge more to board larger dogs, but at Camp Bow Wow we all pay the same rate even though my dogs are tiny. I've been a loyal customer for years. The staff has done well for my dogs. While I agree that good work should be compensated, but I disagree with the lack of notification. No one likes surprises. If you're planning to charge me holiday rates on non-holidays, you should tell me in advance or put in it writing on your website. That's only fair. read more

I would be cautious about the reviews of this place. I recently shared my very-real experience and they reported my one-star review and it was removed from Yelp. I'm sharing again because I believe it is helpful information for people who are searching for a facility to take their dog. My experience: my dog was denied within five minutes of the orientation, and I quote, "because she isn't smelling the other dogs' butts enough." That was the only thing the staff member said. Uncertain about Camp Bow Wow's criteria, it wasn't explicitly stated, but I was surprised that my dog (who has been boarded at other facilities and actively visits dog parks) was denied within five minutes without giving her a chance to get to know her surroundings. But maybe this is standard practice at Camp Bow Wow, and I could have given them a second chance. I opted not to go a second time and went to another facility in the area (it's a mom-and-pop shop) and I am thrilled with my decision. Camp Bow WOW decor is cute. See? Do not bring your dog here when it is raining out, the canine grass they have installed in the outdoor area absorbs all of the urine from dozens of dogs and since it's not properly drained or cleaned, the rainwater will mix with it and soak into your dogs fur. My dog smelled so bad leaving this place after a rainy day we had to get him groomed because a normal bath wasn't cutting the ammonia smell of the urine. A little insight to the staff - if you notice a dog smells bad, beyond the normal smells of a dog daycare, please clean them up a bit before you send them home. Removing the canine grass would be a good start, or closing the outdoor area off if it's raining. If this happens again I'll be taking my dog elsewhere. read more

I do not recommend! They take WAY too many dogs at one time. We were called to come get our dog less than 24 hours after we left on a weeklong vacation because he was exhibiting anxious behaviors we have never witnessed in any other social/boarding situation. For the price (not cheap!) there are other options with far more individualized attention for your pup. read more

Very corporate. They insist I find a vet to neuter my large breed dog early to meet their corporate policies and are unconcerned about the pets health or vet recommendations. Staff are impatient and have large attitudes. They are not accepting of all breeds and make generalizations about one dog that do not apply to the next. So far so good! I love that Camp Bow Wow has an "interview" process so they can ensure both your pup and the other pups there are safe. I love the webcams (possibly too much) and I love knowing that my dog is getting exercise and making friends! Used to love this place, but it's changed a lot. Staff is not as patient or knowledgeable as they used to be. Dogs can't really play because its overcrowded and the staff get frustrated easily. And they have so much business now, they don't try to work with the dogs much anymore. They just lock them up if they are rambunctious. It's too bad because it's a nice place. If they could hire more relaxed, good-natured staff, and train them better about dog behaviors, it could be great again. read more

Great place to drop my dog off on the weekends when my regular day care is closed. The staff is friendly and the organization pretty transparent. They will give you a full tour of the facilities and have a camera system so you can view your dog playing from an app. They may have to squirt your pup with water in the face every once in a while but it is a reasonable compromise considering their job and that they have to manage so many dogs at once. The price is reasonable too. $19 for a half day and $29.12 for a full day. While they don't offer full grooming as a service, they do offer training and bathing as well as a van that will come to you if your dog ends up not being a good fit with the other dogs in the camps community. Boarding services are also offered and not just day camp. read more

Great place with knowledgeable and friendly staff. The dogs have a little "screening" and must be able to socialize with other dogs, which is great for the safety of the whole group. (Good behavior training services if your dog needs it first.). My dog always enjoys going and I get a relaxed happy dog every time I pick her up. I got my dog in November 2015. After using other places, I started using this place in Feb 2016. I usually use the day care 3-4 times a week when I go to work. I have left her for long term boarding up to 4 days and she is great. I use the online cameras to watch her play, which is a great feature (for me - I don't think my dog cares). I have used a couple of other dog day cares in the capital district area, but my dog seemed to be a little more "smelly" and anxious after picking her up. I've been bringing my best friend here for two years and couldn't be happier with Camp Bow Wow. On Buddy's interview day, the Camp Counselor explained their process of introducing new campers to the facility and other dogs, and I was able to watch from the reception area. Proud pet mom moment when she came back and told me he was a great fit and was already having a blast. Samuel, the owner, happened to be there and took me on a tour of the entire facility- from the meal prep area, to the kennels, to the staff break room. He even showed me the climate control system and talked about the evacuation drills they do with the local fire department. This guy understands pet parents- and how important transparency is to a successful business model. The webcams are great and always make me happy to see he's having such a good time. In the summer there are big bone shaped baby pools for the pups to cool off. My buddy goes to both day camp and overnight camp and each time I drop him off, he runs right up to the desk where he's always greeted by name. I can't say enough about the staff there. I wish I could say he looks like he'll miss me when I check him in, but it's like I'm dropping him off at Disneyland- he never looks back. read more

Some dogs require more attention than others .. especially puppies. I believe the staff was unwillingly to go the extra mile and pay a little bit more attention to my dog. In a new environment, with A LOT of dogs, it may take some dogs longer than others to adapt. No two dogs are the same. I felt like I was treated as just another customer with the mindset "your business does not matter to us." I know my dog can be a handful -- he has a lot of energy, he's a puppy, I get it. However, if a customer is willing to pay for your services, I think the staff should find a solution. I don't believe the staff was well trained to handle high energy dogs. Their solution was to remove the dog from the situation but unfortunately that solution is not going to work every time. They did not say my dog was harmful or dangerous -- they said he had a lot of energy and always wanted to play -- so he's not allowed back? Camp Bow Wow was unaccommodating and stereotype dogs. They only want small dogs or large dogs that sleep all day. I thought "doggy day care" was intended to provide an environment for dogs to run, play, and get the exercise they need but apparently it's not. read more

When I first signed my high energy yellow lab up for day care, I was so pleased with the facility. My dog loved going there, and always came home tired. Unfortunately, I refused to keep over vaccinating him with Camp Bow Wow's required twice a year Bordetella vaccination. I've asked three area vets, and they all stated that the vaccination is effective for ONE year. I miss going to Camp Bow Wow, and cant believe that others have not objected to their policy of over vaccinating. read more

We just picked up our dog from a 3 day stay at Camp Bow Wow. After visiting several dog boarding places in the capital district, we heard about Camp Bow Wow. We were very impressed with our visit and tour of the facilities. Our pet was then scheduled for a screening visit to see if she would be compatible would other dogs and the camp counselors. After picking her up today, we were more than happy with the attention that was given our girl in our absence. Amy and her crew of Camp Counselors treated our Daisy Mae as if she was a member of the family. We saw that Daisy Mae enjoyed herself and appreciated that we took the time to find a place for her to stay what would be clean, enjoyable and safe. We appreciated the opportunity to bring up the web cams and see how she was doing without us. We were happy to see that she was enjoying herself.
