I called and purchased tickets for the buffet with no problem. Later, I went to their web page, and learned about all their wonderful amenities and activities, and we decided to book an overnight stay. Boy, were we glad we did! It was everything we could have wanted. We stayed in one of their "hotel" rooms at the Wynne/Flato Lodge. The granddaughter would probably say that we didn't have everything -- There was no TV in our room, and no cell reception. BUT, we did have a great internet connection. Once you're settled in, you won't miss TV or phones. In fact, I think it is a blessing that allows you to use your brain and think about what you'd like to DO. At night, there was a hayride up the hill to a fire pit, supplied with fixin's for s'mores, hot chocolate and hot cider. Yes! After the hayride, we went back to the Registration building to watch a family movie, "Beauty and The Beast." Someone even came to bring us popcorn! There are also board games in this area. This same building houses a library and gift shop on the upper level, and art classrooms on the lower level, back side. The next morning, we had breakfast - basic, but very doable, with hot food, a hot bar: oatmeal, gravy & biscuits; and a cold bar: yogurt, fruit, etc., along with the required coffee. Next, the granddaughter went zip lining and rode The Big Gulp (yeah, you'll have to check this out); later, we went back to the Registration building for a painting class and a trip through the gift shop for Christmas gifts. What a great trip! We can't wait to go back! You gotta do MO!!

I understand that it might be because the accommodations are in a rural area; however, it was still unpleasant to find so many cockroaches inside our room.

They do private lessons which got our daughter into riding horses (with wonderful form). They do trail rides, and their trail is a gorgeous run thru the hill country. They board (if they have capacity, which we got lucky bc they're always full!). And most importantly, we've made lifelong friendships with all of the staff there. Megan, the barn manager, treats us like family. The rest of the staff always go out of their way to chat with us when we go visit our horse. In college, I went to retreats here and have wonderful memories of the Marianist Brothers and the staff. Now, years later, I hoped to find the same love and Marianist spirit that once managed this property. I was so happy to find that Tecaboca is still going strong! Kay and the team were great at communicating with us to make sure all our needs were met leading up to the wedding. They also connected us with Fr. Jim Mueller who was amazing and perfect for our wedding. We rented Tecaboca for the weekend and were able to give our guests a mini-retreat with a beautiful wedding on the lake. Everyone kept talking about how beautiful, relaxing and perfect everything was. We are so grateful for Camp Tecaboca and the amazing people that keep it going!

It taught me a lot of skills such as making my bed like in the service, cleaning the toilet and sink of our bath, etc. Every morning, we had to go to mass early and kneel on the concrete floors. The second time I went, on my last day, they said since I was not Catholic, I did not have to kneel. Great timing. Seriously, a very nice place, archery, swimming, riflemanship, were taught with the student having respect for himself and his game. This was nearly sixty years ago, and I remember it like yesterday. The entrance, driving over the one lane bridge over the water sticks in my mind. Prepare your son for the loneliness at first, but it will be worth it.

As the kiddos like to say, "Everybody is somebody at Camp Longhorn." Our children attended for 12+ years a piece. One is an introvert and the other an extrovert, and they both loved it. There's a Monarch Butterfly research field to check out too. They have learning center and auditorium too. Really beautiful way to spend a day in nature.
