I learned about MO Ranch on a Facebook ad. Because only a small part of our family is in this area, we thought their Thanksgiving buffet made sense for us. I called and purchased tickets for the buffet with no problem. Later, I went to their web page, and learned about all their wonderful amenities and activities, and we decided to book an overnight stay. Boy, were we glad we did! It was everything we could have wanted. We stayed in one of their "hotel" rooms at the Wynne/Flato Lodge. The granddaughter would probably say that we didn't have everything -- There was no TV in our room, and no cell reception. BUT, we did have a great internet connection. Once you're settled in, you won't miss TV or phones. In fact, I think it is a blessing that allows you to use your brain and think about what you'd like to DO. At night, there was a hayride up the hill to a fire pit, supplied with fixin's for s'mores, hot chocolate and hot cider. Yes! After the hayride, we went back to the Registration building to watch a family movie, "Beauty and The Beast." Someone even came to bring us popcorn! There are also board games in this area. This same building houses a library and gift shop on the upper level, and art classrooms on the lower level, back side. The next morning, we had breakfast - basic, but very doable, with hot food, a hot bar: oatmeal, gravy & biscuits; and a cold bar: yogurt, fruit, etc., along with the required coffee. Next, the granddaughter went zip lining and rode The Big Gulp (yeah, you'll have to check this out); later, we went back to the Registration building for a painting class and a trip through the gift shop for Christmas gifts. We went to a Christian family retreat here, and the place is so, so big and cute. They have a pool and a river where you can enjoy time with your family. The only thing I didn't enjoy as much was the cabins. There were big cockroaches in our room, and it smelled old and damp. I understand that it might be because the accommodations are in a rural area; however, it was still unpleasant to find so many cockroaches inside our room. read more

So to start: the Cafeteria food was pretty darn good. I can't believe I'm saying that. Maybe after a day of activities it just tasted better. But I remember going to camp when I was a kid and we got spoiled milk. Like stringy and sour smelling as you poured it. And it was one dish for the entire table. Here it's buffet style. As much as you want. They accommodated for vegetarians. Like on hamburger day they had huge portobello mushrooms to make a shroom burger. Ice cream cups and bombsicles and my favorite Orange dreamsicles in their self serve fridge. Twice a week in the summer they had BBQ down by the river. I think some of the activities you gotta reserve in advance. Like way in advance. For example archery - 1 month in advance. They got zip line and ropes course too that probably require reservations. They're very modest courses. Like zip line is just one line. I think there's a critter museum with some of the local wildlife there (bugs etc). No reservation required for the canoes however. And there are some nice small rapids with natural water slides for young kids to enjoy as well as a free man made slide that looks kinda intense. If you put your feet in the river minnows will come up and nibble on them. Like a fish spa. And of course they have an iconic rope on the tree like all good camps have. Swimming pool is there for those who don't like the Guadalupe river (but river is super clean and you can see to the bottom). Accommodations were surprisingly decent. Clean. No bugs. Shampoo, bar soap and towels provided at least at the Flato lodge which were apartment style with nice little shares balcony with room next door. They have a small cafe on site with soda fountain ($20 tumbler gets you unlimited refills for the year). Little hiking trails. Several resident indoor chill cats who hang out at the various building like Mabee Building, their museum (ask for the key), etc. Mostly multiple church groups booking here at the same time but different facilities. The place is large. Despite being church groups some of the high school campers were dropping the F bomb left and right in the cafeteria. Actually heard some of the staff doing the same. Staff was all polite and are young international folks from various countries like Hungary, Spain, Australia, UK, Mexico and other places. I want to start by responding to the review left by "S S" in 2021. Braun House at Mo Ranch was formerly staff housing, now converted to rental space. The advertising for it that I found online shows pics of all bedrooms and shows the beds, so I don't understand SS complaining about that. The high cost reflects the fact that you are renting the entire house (3 BR, two bath, laundry room, etc., sleeps 10. It's a valid complaint that the toilet and fridge weren't clean and that there were droppings. The charge of "unresponsive staff" is vague - does that mean she got nowhere with expressing her concerns to the front office? That hasn't been my experience. As far as being unaware that it's a "religious" site, it's a Presbyterian camp & conference center and there is absolutely no pushing of religion on any guest, ever. But I acknowledge that Air B&B or whoever posts it should note that it's part of a conference center property. Okay, here's my take. My family has stayed at Mo Ranch probably 15 times, for several days each time, on both church retreats and family reunions. There have been occasional glitches, which were resolved to our satisfaction. It is a wonderful place for families, with lots for kid to do. The Wynne/Flato lodge accommodations are as nice or nicer than many commercial hotels I've stayed at. We've stayed in both Pheasant Run and Wynne/Flato, which includes cafeteria-style meals, and barbecue by the river on Fridays in the summer; as well as the Guest Lodge by the river, where we had a kitchen and could prepare our own meals. It's a beautiful location with a great history. I'm sorry that "SS" didn't have the same good experience as most every other poster here did. Oh, and P.S.: we've been using the water slide since YEARS before they added the side rails! It is definitely safe. read more

This wonderful place in the heart of the Texas Hill Country has been a part of my life since my birth. As a matter of fact, in either 2019 or 2020 (my family debates) we will have been coming here EVERY Thanksgiving for 50 years for a family reunion. You simply cannot imagine the beauty of this place, and a simple YELP review could never accurately express our family's connection to and affection for Mo-Ranch. The Presbyterian Church is amazingly lucky and blessed to have such a heavenly 500 acres for conferences, meetings, summer camps, worship, etc. Thanksgiving week in particular (which we are particularly acquainted with) is always full of events to keep you and/or your family busy. As a young kid, Mo was always full of adventure and surprises. It was always a weekend to totally disconnect (little cell phone coverage out there) and just be. I understand the need to modernize, and have been a tad disappointed in the now widespread WiFi signal on the grounds. But oh well... The Cafeteria food in the last two-three years has been increasingly disappointing...but management has assured our family they have made positive changes. Can't wait to mark our family's 50th year at Mo Ranch; hope for many, MANY more ! read more

Review is for day use only. We recently purchased a Groupon to head up there and check it out. Our son had been there for a retreat a few times and seemed to really enjoy it. Took a little while to check in as everyone has to fill out a waiver but things went fairly smoothly after that. We started out with some mountain biking as we brought ours up. They stated 5 miles of trails but did not seem that long. Overall the trails were actually very well kept up so enjoyable nonetheless. We spent the rest of the day hanging out by the river. Lots of grass to spread all your chairs etc. The actual swimming area was a little small but still fairly adequate. The picnic areas were huge with plenty of tables and shade. They have an old fashioned water slide ( see the pics) that is actually really neat. They also have a rope swing and a raft to hang out on in the swimming area. They have a number of canoes that you can use and plenty of life preservers for people to wear while swimming as well. I was really impressed by the bathroom and changing facilities down by the river. They were spacious and very clean. Obviously they pay a lot of attention to these. Overall a great facility and experience. The usual price of $10 for a day pass is a little high but not horrible. We got ours cheaper on Groupon so consider looking there if you are thinking of heading up. read more

We rented Braun house from Airbnb. There was no mention on Airbnb site that this was a religious center and part of commercial organization. I am listing down the pros and cons of this place. Cons: 1. Very old property 2. not very clean 3. meant for kids 4. tiny beds suitable for kids only 5. tiny showers meant for kids only 6. rat infestation 7. unresponsive staff 8. water slide didn't appear to be safe 9. no alcohol permitted 10. dirty toilets 11. not worth the price ( $700+/night ) Pros: 1. good trails 2. nice views I wouldn't recommend staying here, do a day trip here and stay in some nice hotel . read more

Went to Mo Ranch as a kid and always loved it. Recently had an opportunity to live it up as an adult. My professional organization used the large white rock cabin by the slide called the guest house, I believe. It was HUGE! I wish I had pictures from inside, but my phone was crapping out on me while I was there. That's one issue with this place, you're in the middle of nowhere so you will not have the luxury of wifi unless you go to the main building and cell phones work very sporadically. If you have At&t it might work. I looked at it as a blessing while I was there though. Back to the actual venue...the kitchen is huge as well and was great for everyone getting in there all together. They have lots of beds, space for hanging and visiting and many tables for dining. There is also a nice little table down by the river. I was blessed to be with the organization and unfortunately do not know the fee, but it was a beauty. read more

We went to Mo Ranch for a retreat for my fiancee's military residency. There was a pretty large group of about 60 people, including a lot of kids, mostly below age 5. This place is BEAUTIFUL! It reminded me of being back home in Virginia in the mountains..the scenery is amazing! Take a walk across one of the catwalks and get a great picture with a beautiful backdrop of the hills. I got to see a lot of the surrounding area outside the Ranch when I took a run early one morning, too. Food was great...huge buffet set ups for breakfast and lunch with lots and LOTS to choose from! Baked Potato Bar and Cinnamon Buns? Um...YES! Most of our group headed into Kerrville for dinner so I can't say anything about the Wagon Wheel Cafe, but they do have a place to eat dinner if you want to stay on-site. There is so much to do here recreation-wise...we took heavy advantage of the sand volleyball court but they also have tennis courts, kayaks, and a playground for the kids, as well as a big picnic area. We had a great time on the river sled/slide thing and some of us that were crazier than others, played around on the rope swing over the river at 8:00am on a chilly October morning...let's just say it was a bit more fun once it warmed up later in the afternoon. Our group was REALLY looking forward to their 3-hour ropes course but unfortunately it was booked...there's a $20 extra charge to do it but it looks like lots of fun and we hope to go back and do it soon. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms at Pheasant Run, as did most of the group, but some did choose to stay in the cabins and said they were great. The rooms were small but not too small...we had two couples and a 3 month old + Pac N Play in ours and managed to get around just fine. Great place for a large group retreat! read more

I booked a group of ~45 people for 5 days with Mo. Rather a co-worker of mine did and I took over the assignment about 1.5 months before the event. Kelli Crider, my contact there, was more than helpful getting me on track to take over the event. She responded to emails late at night and on the weekend when I was panicking over small stuff. Downside: Zero cell signal. I have a Verizon iPhone 6 and a Sprint iPhone 6 and both got absolutely zero signal anywhere but the registration building. Upside: Zero cell signal. My campers were able to disconnect. They couldn't rely on their phones in social situations. They had to interact and the retreat, and all of them, are better for it. The front desk ladies were so helpful. They consoled me when my charter bus driver was being a tool and mailed me the tool box I left there free of charge. Beautiful scenery at established Presbyterian retreat and conference center on the Guadalupe River. Also great for family reunions and other gatherings. Food @ The Wagon Wheel is filling and tasty. Wireless not great. Great for hiking or sitting with a glass of wine. The Manor House would be especially for family gatherings. read more

Recently attended a wedding at Mo Ranch and had a great time. The staff were accommodating and nice during all of our interactions. The group stayed at the Nicolas House on the hill and the service was at the chapel on the hill. Very beautiful, lots of photo ops, great lighting and lots of room for people. The Nicolas house was really great and an interesting piece of architecture. Lots of accommodations for a big group. Not really any detractors. Views are great. People are friendly. Lots of activities to do on the grounds. Very pleased with the visit! read more

We first visited Mo Ranch about 7 years ago with my family. They have a beautiful lake where you can canoe and they had a couple of swimming pools that were really clean. We found alot of trails where you can go out walking. We took a short drive where we found a great big hill with the most beautiful majestic cross on top of the hill, we sat right by the cross and took pictures with my family. I thought it was a great retreat to just relax with your family and spend the day. I think they also had barbeque pits so you can barbeque with picnic tables! We stayed the entire day and at late afternoon we found a playground for our kids to play. We ended up leaving at night where the drive home was only about an hour away.
