My son was 10 and my daughter 13 their first summer at Camp Cheerio. They both had a wonderful time and will return this summer for two weeks. We chose Camp Cheerio because both my husband and his mother had attended this camp and had good memories. Also, the price is reasonable compared to some other sleep-away programs we've checked out. The cost per kid is $2,060.00 for two weeks. The shorter one got a $50.00 sibling discount. We just filled out the kids activity forms for this summer and they have so many programs to choose from. My son loves outdoor stuff so he has hiking as his first choice and my daughter is into horses at the moment and is looking forward to riding. The mountain setting is idyllic and the bunks and facilities look clean and well maintained. My daughter the foodie said the food was excellent. All of the counselors were welcoming and smiling. Weird experience being from New York and South Florida but I guess people actually are friendly in other places. The camper check in program ran smoothly. Read all the stuff on the website before heading there and you won't have any trouble.

Pay at the front desk to watch a tournament, rent a court, join a team, or sign up for a cardio fitness membership. The courts are well kept. Basketball hoops can be pulled up to the ceiling. Curtains are used as needed to separate courts and dampen sound. Bathrooms are large and stocked. Toilets are often not flushed. As a result, they would benefit from automatic flushing systems. What I liked most about this facility is the space and volume. The ceilings are high and the facility is spacious. Therefore, sound from cheering fans, yelling coaches, and referee whistling dissipates so you can still hear the announcers and communicate with the people beside you. A cafe is located in the front that offers a variety of brunch foods, beverages, and smoothies. Free WiFi is available inside the complex. The name and password is displayed at the front desk. Note that chairs are not allowed to be brought in for tournaments. They do have benches and 3-tier bleachers on the courts. There is additional seating by the cafe. Overall, a nice and accessible indoor sports complex.

I have read some of the other reviews and I hate to see people have had anything less than a fantastic experience. I want to emphasize that we have never felt anything less than welcomed at this location. My son doesn't open up to people very often, but he always readily signs up for anything offered because he loves it. I am very particular about who my child is around and associates with, so I understand that some people may have concerns, but I follow recommend the Wilkes Family YMCA for all activities!

On top of that, there were honestly times where we felt creeped out by some of the gym-goers who would intently stare and watch you in the work out room. At first I put it off thinking "oh I or whoever looks familiar", but it got weirder as time went on and the same 5 regulars stared me down and honestly made me just never want to bother going there to workout. The janitor, I do not know her name and it's not like she'd tell you, was beyond rude telling us to "hurry the hell up" in the changing rooms 10 minutes before closing of the pool room, not the gym, when we already were leaving! Then as we pass her walking out she cusses us under her breath. Come to find out she's had multiple complaints and was never fired or even scolded, that I would guess. The daycare staff allegedly led someone's kid barefoot out of the classroom, through the halls, and into a public restroom, which is very unsanitary for a 3 year old. There was also a shooting there recently, which doesn't factor into the review, but was my ultimate decision to stop my membership. When I attempted to cancel the membership, it had already charged me and I was told I would receive a refund since the payments are delayed on my bank so I assumed it was still ok. I called back a week later saying I had not received a refund and would like to know if I was ever going to get it back, they told me no and that "they typically don't do that" which implies they can; however, they insisted I could not have a refund even after I explained my situation which is honestly ridiculous. It's not the staff's fault in that case, it's the policy, and the lady I spoke to was very kind about it, but it doesn't change the fact that I should have received a refund since my payments are typically random and I basically called the day I was charged asking to cancel the membership and request a refund. All in all, aside from these reasons, the only redeeming factor is the pool. Also do be aware that if you have children, men in the men's locker room ARE NOT changing in the adult section, they will walk around bare butt booty naked everything hanging out in the under 18 section in-front of other's kids and that is flat out disgusting like c'mon. Very nice weight lifting section and courtroom, the back workout room kinda sucks as there's not really more than one set of weights and 1 machine of every type which makes it difficult especially on busier nights. If you want a gym, do not go to the Wilkes YMCA, just do a local gym instead or go to planet fitness, it's going to be cheaper, better, and have more equipment. $30 a month for somewhere this poor is absolutely not worth it when its that uncomfortable to go.
