    Campsite

Loved the community everyone was so nice and friendly the entire stay. Easy access to the bathrooms/showers including the river. The water was amazing this year and the campsites were clean. Loved the Karaoke night idea they even offered prizes to win. Perfect spot to go stargazing, you're able to see many stars out at night. I would choose this campsite again over anywhere else. 10/10.

We have stayed at Rivernook in the past which is a great RV site also. We decided to try Camp Kernville this year and we were glad we did. The beach was great and the water is much more common in that area so the kids were able to jump into the water and really enjoy the river. The staff was really friendly and the sites, bathrooms, and entire property was well maintained. Definitely going to be our spot from now on.

I couldn't imagine camping anywhere else. The staff is exceptionally and the camp sites are always clean. No matter when you come this site is exceptional!

The Kern River and Camp Kernville

We have been going to Camp Kernville for 2 years now to ring in the New Year. From booking to registration to checking in has been so easy. The office staff is always so accommodating. You will always find the staff out making sure the grounds are impeccable. This campground is in walking distance to literally everything. The Kern River behind it is just an added plus. We look forward to booking during the summer.

Fantastic campground, right next to the heartbeat of beautiful Kernville. Also, very clean and organized. Another huge plus is the swimming beach with cabanas. Jennifer and her father Jim, couldn't be more accommodating. I highly recommend this campground if you were considering the Kernville or Lake Isabella area. I will definitely be back! Tim S.

Ask the Community - Camp Kernville

We are planning a trip and would like to book at site with you for 2 nights January 2nd and 3rd. We have a small 21 ft self contained rv. Do you have anything available for those 2 nights? Thanks look forward to hearing from you-Nori

Hello Nori! Yes we do have availability during that time. If you want to give us a call at 760-376-1000, we'll get you taken care of!

How dog friendly is it? Can the pooches enjoy the water as well? Any area even maybe away from the other campers/visitors?

We are a dog friendly park. At this time we do allow pets on the beach as long as they are leashed. We also have a small pet area to take your pet off leash to do their business. Some great news coming to the valley...a new dog park is in the…

    Do they have cable tv?

No cable and wifi is only for "checking messages" how they worded it to me. Aka no streaming capabilities I took it as

If my family and I float the river how do we get back to the campsite if there is only 1 car and we arent taking a tour just going on our own. Advice?

You can walk up the riverbank and float to our beach or you can pay for a bus shuttle in town at Sierra South OR SoCal Rafting!…

Do you have to pay?if so what are the rates?

Yes, you have to pay. Rates are posted on our website www.campkernville.com or you can call 760-376-1000 to reach a human :)

TLDR; Great time, nice campsites, friendly staff, clean bathroom and showers Check in is at 3pm but we got caught up in some traffic on the way there and couldn't arrive until 6:45. Got an email and text message with a picture of where our envelope with our information would be that contained the gate code, campsite, and a map of the campground. Very nice. We pulled in and as I was grabbing the envelope a man named Scot who was working there greeted me and asked if I needed any help. Told him that it's our first time here and he offered to show us to our campsite and lead us in his golf cart. When we pulled into the campsite it was clean and the ground was even raked! Which was perfect for us to immediately start setting up our tent. Even the fire pit was raked and clean, there was shade galore which my wife with sensitive skin greatly appreciated. Full cell service with T-Mobile Noticed that the bench at our site could use some TLC, looked like someone put too hot of a pot on it and burned a pretty decent divot into it and it was leaning. Still useable and not a deal breaker for us. There were 2 water spouts to fill up the bucket we used to put out our fire and clean our dishes very close by our site with good pressure. The river was a stones throw away from our campsite which provided great white noise to fall asleep to. One of the rules is that Quiet time is at 10pm. I've been camping elsewhere with the same rule but never have I've seen it enforced unless you call and complain. Staff would drive by around 9:30 on the golf cart, I assume to see who is still playing music, and then again at 10. Which was great. They didn't announce the rule or even say anything as they drove by, but just making their presence known was very professional and reassuring. Since we didn't get to check in properly we had to go back up to the main office/ general store to submit a registration card, that was in the envelope I picked up, to finish checking in. The woman checking us in was nice, friendly, quick, and efficient. She suggested we stop by McNally's further up about 40min drive if we were looking for something to do or eat. 11/10 suggestion. It was all n all a great time. We will be back. Worth the money.

I personally felt that they were treating my group and I like we were stupid or something. We had a big wasp problem at our campsite and though they did help us by putting up a trap, they acted like it was completely up to us to fix their problem. That only happened one night but the wasps did resurface the next morning so we left as soon as possible. We also had a big skunk problem at our site. We couldn't relax at the campfire because the skunks would come up to us every couple of minutes and we would have to shoo them away. They would also rummage through our stuff which was covered and put away to our best extent. They thankfully didn't mess with the tent but they did spray a bit when we were trying to sleep. This was both nights. If you're someone who is willing to look past that and persevere definitely try this place it is so worth it. I would maybe come back, as long as I wouldn't have to deal with the wasps again lol. I will say the restrooms and showers were very clean so that does encourage me to not be shy on coming back.

Upon our arrival, we checked in at the front office and were initially greeted by a very friendly…read moreand professional staff member who assisted us with our wristbands. She then directed us to another employee to finalize our reservation. Unfortunately, that interaction was disappointing. After a three-hour drive, it was discouraging to be met with a condescending attitude. We needed to update our reservation to reflect a different number of adults. We had no issue paying the additional fee, but the employee's tone and insistence that we pay immediately came across as rude, as though she assumed we were unwilling to pay. Thankfully, the staff member who had originally assisted us stepped in and explained that we had just arrived and were not objecting to the additional charge. Later that evening, around 8:30 p.m., a staff member approached our campsite and asked us to lower our music. While we understand and respect campground quiet hours, our music was not loud. We did have several children with us who were playing, but we were under the impression that quiet hours began at 10:00 p.m., and we fully complied with those rules. The manner in which the staff member addressed us felt unnecessarily rude. What made the situation more frustrating was that several other campsites remained much louder throughout the evening. We could clearly hear nearby groups singing, laughing, and playing music well past 10:00 p.m., with some not lowering their music until around 11:00 p.m. Despite bringing this inconsistency to the staff's attention, I did not feel that my concerns were addressed. The campground is pet-friendly, which we appreciate. However, there was frequent barking from dogs throughout the night. Normally, this would not bother us, but it seemed inconsistent that our campsite was singled out for noise while other ongoing disturbances, including loud music and barking dogs, were not addressed. Finally, the restrooms were consistently dirty during our stay. They appeared to be cleaned infrequently, and there seemed to be little urgency in maintaining their cleanliness. Overall, while we appreciated the friendliness of the staff member who initially welcomed us, the inconsistent enforcement of campground rules, the unprofessional attitude from another employee, and the lack of restroom maintenance negatively affected what could have been an enjoyable stay.

When we go river rafting, we mainly stay @ Headquarters or Sandy Flat Campground. This past weekend, we stayed at Sandy Flat. It was amazing. It is right off the river. The river was full and had power. I will add official stats by this weekend. My favorite group of runs is called The Jungle. (I will fact check this). I think that a great run was called Dilly. It is a class 4!! OMGoodness, it was wild & fun. Once more rafters arrived we went on another run. I will get the official names. One is named ... something Deli. Anyways, EPIC FUN. I forgot my wetsuit. I just went on June 3rd. The water was C O L D. Our guide, Doug, told us NOT to bring our phones. I wish I would have remembered my Go - Pro. We were lucky that the 178 reopened for the drive home. It was 93 degrees. I was mesmerized by the river. I couldn't stop watching it on the drive home.

Coming up here from San Diego we didn't really know what to expect other than we might have an opportunity to tube down the river. So everyone in our group brought river tubes. That was our first miscalculation. Aperently tubing depends on the season, recent weather conditions, and various natural events that really narrow the scope of when you can tube safety. Also consider how you plan to get back up to your campsite after you tube down the river a few miles.. Ideally you rent tubes from a company that also shuttles you back up the river. If you don't want to rent tubs someone in your group has to pick you up and drive you back, which is a pain. There is no cell service and no uber... The Kern River is best suited for kayaking and rafting. There are many companies in kernville that offer those services. Camping. If you're looking to camp along the river during the summer you need to think about booking in January. During our stay mid-June, the entire river was booked solid.. We stayed at Sandy Flats campgroup which had a small beach area by the river. Litter bugs. One of the most discouraging things to see along the river was the amount of trash that people leave behind. The number one item? Used diapers.. If you can manage to visit midweek, and be prepared to use a kayak/rafting company you will have an epic time. Note - Sequoia National Park is about an hours drive away. Makes for a great day trip.
