It is a rustic, outdoorsy camp, no cell phones allowed here! Camp Mah-Kah-Wee is a Girl Scout camp. They offer programs throughout they year for girls and have overnight camps during the summer. I have been to Mah-Kah-Wee many times over the years with my daughters, and I really appreciate that we have a facility like this so close to home. The camp surrounds a lake so there are many water activities like canoeing and kayaking available during the summer. There is also a swimming pool. They offer all of the standard camp activities like archery and crafts and they also have an obstacle course. My kids love this place. During the summer the week-long camps are themed so you can find something to match your child's interests. As for the facilities, the best place to stay is in the cabins. They have air conditioning! In Florida you NEED air conditioning in the summer. I've also chaperoned overnights in the tents, which aren't so bad, and a building they call the Eco Center, which is a bit more like a enclosed porch... no AC there. Overall, it's a great place. I highly recommend it. The prices for overnight camp are very good and the kids have a great time.

This is a place that had I been a kid and known about this place, I would've been here every chance I had. The accommodations were unbelievable! All the activities like the climbing wall, and the ropes were super cool. The girls got to do kayaking and archery, and even learned how to change a tire. This is the most beautiful land I've seen in a long time! Highly recommend you have any event here!

After visiting the camp myself I can't wait to send my youngest this year. All Instructors are background checked and have training to inspire young adults. Only the best! They have beautiful up to date pools. The gym is state-of-the-art! And the rolling hill of acres is picturesque! There are so many things to do and see, like archery! I'm ecstatic for my baby to attend because everyone is super friendly and all - children, parents and Elk's are treated with the utmost respect and care! If you're looking for a great place to offer your child the best head start, this is the place for you.

I read a negative review about someone's son getting hurt and not being notified. This has not been my experience. The one time when my son and his friend were throwing an object back and forth In the pool and my son got hit in the eye accidentally, they called me immediately and the P.A. was able to write him a prescription and she took care of everything. The camp is a little "quaint" but that adds to its charm. Last year my son did a week at another camp and begged me to only enroll him at Camp Horizon. It was way overcrowded at that other camp and the food terrible. I will be sending my daughter to Camp Horizon when she old enough. I appreciate they keep the price reasonable too.

It is off the beaten path in rural Leesburg. You enter through a quaint tree lined road and reach the campground that is situated on lake Harris. The dock reminds me of something out of the movies. It is wooden with an upper deck that looks out over the massive lake. The camp director was nice and let us take a walk around. The grounds were so peaceful and relaxing. The buildings are older but well maintained. They have air conditioned cabins, a gymnasium, snack bar, chapel and dining hall. The price includes 3 hot meals for the week. There are discounts if you attend two weeks and if you have a sibling that attends. I would have visited a long time ago however they have van trasportation from Pembroke Pines for only $10. each way!!! They don't have any televisons and they don't allow campers to use cell phones or electronics. My kids come home tired after having a blast all week . Last year my daughter had such a good time that she actually got camp sick. When she got home she was upset for days because she wanted to go back!!!
