None of the other boys did anything inappropriate, it was just me. I didn't even know her or anybody in group for that matter as I joined the group a week or two after they got started. Nobody on the staff believed me or supported me, it felt like everybody believed her, and a week later I ended up leaving. This all happened back in the summer of 98, and here I am 22 years later still bothered and traumatized by what happened during my one week with NYC. I am sure none of the staff members work for this organization anymore, but hopefully the new staff members will support both sides and not judge somebody so swiftly.

We are summer residents and live on the McKenzie River for 22 summers. We raft the river several…read moretimes each summer with our friends and family. My husband and I decided to try TnT. We watch all the company's guides on the river and they looked fun and safe from our view on the river. We loved the trip with Tonya, Tim and Bert. The guides were friendly, knowledgable and safe. I changed rafts along the river from Bert's raft to Tonya's to even the numbers and weight. What an experience. Laughed so much and got so wet. We stopped to let people swim and jump off "climbing rock". Later we stopped at McKenzie Bridge campground for a short snack and potty break. Tnt supplied huge amounts of snack bars, chips, nuts, fruit, and bottled water for our consumption. If you want to see the McKenzie River along with it"s class one and two plus rapids, I would recommend Tnt!

Havenroot is a 200 acre property just outside of Veneta, OR that acts as an event venue,…read morecampground, and summer camp site. I've visited Havenroot a couple of times now for an event called Folk & Forage. It's a festival focused on folk music and wild food foraging especially mushrooms. I definitely recommend checking it out! Havenroot has been a great venue for an outdoor festival of this size (~200-300 people). Their property is huge and offers tent campsites, cabins, van and RV parking, and gathering spaces. There is a main stage, a Great Hall, an amphitheater, a pub, and a covered pavilion. They also have a lake for canoeing, a zip line and low ropes course, a pool, archery and axe throwing, and many trails to wander. The property isn't too far outside Veneta, which is itself not too far from Eugene. So if you forget coffee or snacks, you are not out of luck!

For an outdoor state, with lots of hunting, I've found a rather large dearth of good, outdoor…read moreranges. Plenty of indoor ones which, I suppose, makes sense due to the wet weather. But honestly, I want rough terrain, the ability to move about and shoot at different elevations, and the flexibility to set up tactical scenarios. The Albany Rifle and Pistol Club achieves all this and more. I was able to spend a day shooting here with some co-workers and, although I had toured previously, this was the first chance I got to actually use the facilities. The set-up is definitely intended for police, military, and experienced shooters. Not to say that they wouldn't welcome new and learning shooters, but I strongly, STRONGLY suggest that if you are new to the sport/defense, you have someone experienced with you if you come here. I didn't shoot on any of the indoor benches or the skeet shoot or rifle ranges, but instead headed up with the guys to the North tactical ranges. Twelve different shooting bays are stationed around a small hill, and it's first come/first served. We were able to snag a range all the way at the end, load up some barrels, and set up our targets. We spent a good day shooting, without any distractions from other shooters and without having to wait for the firing line to clear so that we could reset targets. There are a number of range rules, but rangemasters are not present on each range, so it's up to you to be safe. I prefer this, myself. The price is a little high, especially upon initial enrollment, but the price goes down from there. There are also incentives for members of law enforcement and there are a number of classes and events that are hosted here. An excellent place to go shoot in the Willamette Valley, definitely.

I haven't been a…read moremember here, but my father has for the last 19 years, and would continue being a member indefinitely, except he will no longer be a resident of this area (very soon). He loves both the long range area and the many short range areas (I would say he has used them all with me, so alone he is familiar, and happy with, everything there). I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.

The Ems are a hometown institution. They've been part of the fabric of Eugene of over 70 years!…read moreThey originally played at (now defunct) Bethel Park in, as you may have guessed, the Bethel neighborhood. They spent most of their years at Civic Stadium in Eugene before moving to their current location, PK Park, which is actually a University of Oregon facility for their baseball team. I remember going to games with my mom when I was young, when her workplace was doing a whiffle ball promotion with the team. And they have some fun promos nowadays too; we went to "Take Meow't to the Ballgame", where Pete the Cat was there and attendees were invited to bring their cats as well. We saw two cats... I'm not sure they were excited to be there, but I appreciate the out of the box thinking! Their official mascot is a Sasquatch, which is a fun nod to the legend in the Pacific Northwest. They also debuted an identity which they use occasionally called Monarcas de Eugene. Their Monarcas uniforms are gorgeous! I know that there was some talk about the Ems needing a stadium of their own (not as guests of the UO), which didn't pan out, and they've said they're going to move elsewhere. I'm not sure if that was the final word on relocation or if maybe they've backed off it a bit. I'd like the Ems to stay because it's good for Eugene. They do need to work on their merch, though. We went recently to the game and they one toddler shirt and a onesie, and everything else was a kid's small or larger. I wish they had more of their Monarcas identity in merch (I don't want a jersey; I want an everyday t-shirt) or the Exploding Whales (especially for kids!).

My 12 year old daughter has attended Outrider Camps for the past 5 years and she always loves it…read more It has been instrumental in developing in her a love of, and confidence in, the wilderness. She knows her way around the healing herbs found in the forest and what berries and plants are edible and which are to be avoided. She learned from Outriders how to safely handle a knife and a fish hook; she's proficient with a bow and arrow and understands the principle behind building a shelter. While these aren't skills she uses elsewhere in her life, she's found an inner confidence along the way, which is important. The camp finds a nice balance between teaching safety and respect while creating an environment where kids can have fun and be a bit wild. As a 7 year old my daughter delighted in coming home covered in mud or ash used for camouflage or natural sunscreen. Over the years she has proudly presented a yellow jacket sting that she "healed" using a herb found in the forest, or a blackberry scratch she'd received when she found just the perfect hiding spot for some game or another. After a day at camp she's tired and yet grounded and happy. The owner is, by his own admission, better at working with kids than with parents. He does seem to have a gift where working with kids is concerned. He is supported by a team of fellow Nature lovers who bring a variety of skills to the table, from herbalism to ornithology to swordsmanship. I feel like he and his team do a great job of creating a good old-fashioned type of adventure in the wilderness for modern day kids.
