In college, I went to retreats here and have wonderful memories of the Marianist Brothers and the staff. Now, years later, I hoped to find the same love and Marianist spirit that once managed this property. I was so happy to find that Tecaboca is still going strong! Kay and the team were great at communicating with us to make sure all our needs were met leading up to the wedding. They also connected us with Fr. Jim Mueller who was amazing and perfect for our wedding. We rented Tecaboca for the weekend and were able to give our guests a mini-retreat with a beautiful wedding on the lake. Everyone kept talking about how beautiful, relaxing and perfect everything was. We are so grateful for Camp Tecaboca and the amazing people that keep it going!

It taught me a lot of skills such as making my bed like in the service, cleaning the toilet and sink of our bath, etc. Every morning, we had to go to mass early and kneel on the concrete floors. The second time I went, on my last day, they said since I was not Catholic, I did not have to kneel. Great timing. Seriously, a very nice place, archery, swimming, riflemanship, were taught with the student having respect for himself and his game. This was nearly sixty years ago, and I remember it like yesterday. The entrance, driving over the one lane bridge over the water sticks in my mind. Prepare your son for the loneliness at first, but it will be worth it.

The Camp is beautiful, and you know you will have a good experience from the moment you start down the drive. There are a variety of activities available for all ages. Our retreat was primarily in the pavilion, but our attendees enjoyed spreading out over the camp for our break-out sessions. It was a joy to work with the full-time staff! They are wonderful Christian people, and we loved having the staff join us at different times. They make you feel like you are part of their family. Deer Creek Camp catered all three meals for us, and the food was wonderful. The breakfast and lunch were tasty, and there were a number of options to please everyone. Our evening dinner was a nice sit-down dinner, and the food was delicious. Alma knows how to cook! The coffee and smoothie bar was also enjoyed by our couples. The drinks were delicious. The staff and the interns who served us at dinner were fabulous. They were respectful young men and women who went out of their way to make sure the meal was a pleasure for our married couples. They were obviously well-trained, as they were better than servers we have had in nice restaurants. We strongly recommend Deer Creek Camp for your retreats or other events. It is our go-to place for events for all ages.

This place is well maintained, very clean, easy access off a gravel road…read more If you're an RV'er though, you might want to look elsewhere. The back-in slip we had came with a 30A outlet with no breaker! Not good. We had to shut off our mains to prevent arcing. Then, there was the sewer line. It was above ground, and terminated with a 45° Wye! The straight end sat parallel to the ground, the wye at 45°. Neither made for an easy, reliable hook-up. If not for some fancy joinery using a bungee, I honestly don't know how my slinky sewer line would have stayed connected. Also, since the 45° sat at about a foot above grade, drainage was very bad. There is very bad TV reception here. We got three channels that pixelated too often to watch for more than a few minutes. Getting into our slip was OK. Getting out was hampered by badly pruned trees. The other slips had water and electricity, only. Wifi was good. Internet was viewable. No phone service unless you went with wifi, which we didn't try. The price was very right at $35 a night, total. Even so, I don't believe I'll be coming back, since my RV slip was substandard. I do want to say, though, that the cabins looked very nice. If you're a family that goes the cabin route, you may want to consider this quiet, clean location. We didn't meet the owners, but my daughter, who stayed here at an earlier date, told me they are very nice.

I loved lost maples, it is a beautiful state park/natural area. I went for the first time in…read moreNovember with my mom hoping to catch some foliage and we definitely did see plenty both on the way and at the park! The trail isn't too hard; I did the east loop going clockwise since the volunteers told me there was probably a little better foliage along this loop than the west loop. I was able to do the whole thing and return to where I started in a little under 2 hours. It was a relatively warm day; I was grateful i bought my personal fan when going up the steep part because I was definitely starting to sweat! After that though it was mostly flat and then back downhill so no issues with getting hot. I got several lovely photos along the way and was certainly reminded how gorgeous and colorful Texas can be! Only note: be sure to make a timed entry reservation if you go during the peak season (fall) because it absolutely sells out! I tried going with a friend last year and we didn't have a res and we were turned away - we ended up going to Garner state park which is also gorgeous and fun, about 30 mins drive away from lost maples. This year we got entry for the 11a-1p entry time, and by the week or so prior to going, everything was sold out for that Saturday we were going. So bear that in mind!

Cabins were a bit dated, but were up to my expectations for camp cabins. Each cabin had two individual toilets and two separate showers, which was very convenient, but the bathrooms in the cabins could use updating.
