The staff!! Rude, inconsiderate and unprofessional.Not friendly and crude. Would not recommend for families.

This is a hidden gem in the big city where you get to experience your classic Boy Scout camping. It's very well taken care of, clean, family friendly. We came here from out of town, and this is something I wish every town in the USA hadZ they play an important as a nature preserve as well as education. We've camped here a few times in the past 5 years. Each time has been a good experience. We haven't rented the cabins, but there are a good amount of 2 and 3 bedroom cabins at the park. We've only stayed at the RV sites everytime we've camped here. Once in a tent and the other times in a campervan. The RV sites are spacious and spaced apart enough for some privacy. There are only 5 RV sites at the campground, offering electric, no water hookup. There are a lot of tent sites. You do have to park in the parking lot and walk your gear about 1/4 mile or less to your site. The camp store is really under stocked. There really shouldn't mention they have a store with so little to offer. Surprisingly, you can't hear any road noise once inside the campground, even with the RV sites just off a main road. We'll camp here again, mainly because it's so close to home, it's an easy and quick weekend trip. read more

This place is a gem. They operate during off season & accommodate their visitors like family. We are here during off season; not by choice. Our son is very sick and is getting treatment nearby in Elgin. Not only did this camp stay open for us when they were closing down today; they provided so much support during our time here. I cannot express my appreciation for Elaine, Hunter & Bill. You truly made such a stressful time better. There are 5 sites. You have sewer & electricity. You can fill water if asking front desk. Ask the front desk for anything......they will help. We were given our first bundle of firewood for free. We were given several supplies to borrow (snow shovel, hose, bucket, puzzles & games). They have showers and bathrooms year round. I have learned that you don't find that here during this time. Im so thankful for the staff having such a big heart. Thank you thank you thank you! We really enjoyed our "not too far from home" camping jaunt here. While the perimeters aren't too far off from main Lake Cook Road (and you could easily order in a pizza), the site itself and the surrounding 73 acres of forest and wetland preserves gives it a semi-secluded feeling. Yes the campgrounds are kept very well and there are several communal buildings that house a 24 hr office with electricity, AC, and clean bathrooms, amenities for purchase like firestarters and firewood, and friendly staff that gives it a no doubt glamping feeling. There are drinking fountains for water, and paved walkpaths. The trailheads are all close to the campsite and you can easily go on a 5.4 mi hike through the forest preserve or take an easier 3 mi hike on paved paths of the public park that the locals use. As others have said, there are definitely mosquitos around. DEET it up immediately and I was fine but for the 5 min I didn't have OFF! on, I had several bites. Each site comes with a fire pit and grate, picnic table, poles and hooks to hang valuables outside, and a sizable area to pitch the tent. The campsites are spaced very close together, and some sites, like ours (site 9) had direct sunlight with little shade during the day. There were lots of families with young kids and also a few larger rowdier parties. Being so close together, it's the luck of the draw whether you get quiet or rowdy neighbors. We drank beers discretely and didn't have any trouble and I think the no alcohol policy only applies if you're camping with a youth group. Would go again for a mini getaway to nature that is still close to home and a comfortable experience. You can reserve a site head of time on their website for $35/night on the weekends. If you are an avid outdoors person, you may find this site akin to wading in the kiddie pool though. read more

Very nice, small campground, extremely nice personnel - helpful and friendly. Felt very safe. We had a tent but stayed in an RV/tent site (#3 is an especially sought after location for Rv's since it is wooded and shady). We chose an RV site because it was hot and I wanted to plug in my electric fan. Clean, and surprisingly less bugs than we expected - still used OFF. Sturdy picnic tables, nice gravel parking spot. Bathrooms and showers, very clean, a walk from this campsite, but closer to others - #6 tent campsite (no electricity) looks nice with some shade and close to the bathroom. There are cabins and tent sites, but you must walk in (a short way) rather than park at your site. Nice that they offer wagons for anyone to use to bring their gear in. They sell a few things in the tiny camp office - firewood, roasting fork, blanket, candy, cold drinks, even ice when they have it. There is a small wildlife display and games available for campers. Would have been 5 stars except for the traffic noise mostly from Lake Cook Road (most of the night). This was our first camping excursion in many years - so much easier because it was only 20 minutes from our house. There is a forest preserve with trails very close by. Even a short drive to restaurants and grocery store if you don't want to cook. read more

It appears that Cook County has made a nice investment in a great forest preserve. The site is clean and well maintained... perhaps because it's only been around for a year. You will hear road noise from neighboring Lake Cook Road and Quentin. And given the site's proximity to wetlands there were many mosquitoes... take the bad with the good. While there the manager Matt (recognized him because he did the check-in) and his friends/family/large group played loud music (don't know about you but I enjoy listening to the sound of birds and bugs while camping), let their dog run free (no bother to me because I like dogs but portrays a sense on entitlement) and partied well beyond the quiet hours of 10pm (which is already kind of late). Hopefully this issue gets sorted because it's a nice spot for camping and all of the staff i spoke with seemed great and were friendly and helpful. read more

Enjoyed our stay here very much. Immaculate grounds, newer cabins w/ big bathrooms and an awesome staff. Activities available for the kids via the daily programs, as well as nice walking/biking trails through the forest preserve. Area is very safe with police & forest preserve patrols rolling through and we had Matt (a camp manager) keeping an eye on all the goings on. The staff was attentive to the campers, but never intrusive. Bugs (i.e. mosquitos) are everywhere so bring your spray. Over all a great time & beautiful campground . read more

This place is great! Management has played a key role in the campgrounds success in bringing camping to the suburbs of Chicago! Such a fantastic idea!!! No more do I need to spend obscene amounts of money on gas to travel to Wisconsin or Alaska to fulfill my camping desires! Definitely will come again! And again! And again! read more

We booked this campsite over Memorial Day weekend so we could be near Medieval Times. It was a perfect location for what we needed. The staff was very friendly and helpful!! Boyfriend and I rented bikes and went on the trails l, which was fun and hard. They only had a kids bike for me (seemed to be my size anyway) so they gave it to us for free. The sites are a little close together, little shade for the day (should have brought a canopy tent), and the shower water was cold but everything else made up for it. read more

Not much more than a place to park your RV. If you rent a cabin try to do it during a very dry period. There is no run off so water hangs around and makes it very swampy. Mosquito heaven. And unfortunately the road noise made it difficult to enjoy some peace and quiet. Very nice lady at checkin. Building newer and in good shape read more

This place is TERRIFIC!!! The perfect setting for family get-togethers and celebrations. It would be imprudent to bring young children due to lots of mosquitoes and other pests you'll encounter in nature...but this place is IDEAL for older kids, adults, Boy/Girl Scout troops, church groups, etc. The staff is extremely helpful, accommodations are totally modern and comfortable, other campers are friendly, and it is a totally safe environment, patrolled regularly by Cook County Forest Preserve Police. I wish I could give Camp Reinberg TEN STARS!! We'll be back and will spread the word about this slice of heaven on earth. Thank you for a fun-filled weekend! read more

If your idea of family camping is hearing a bunch of loud, obnoxious, drunk bros partying in the beautiful forest preserves, then this is the camp site for you. Apparently the quiet hour, dogs on leash, and no glass beverage policies don't apply when the party is thrown by the park manager. You can try to ask the front desk if they could have the late night drunk party crowd to quiet down, but since it's their boss they have to give the warning to it doesn't do much good. As an added bonus, young children will be delighted to be woken up around midnight to obscene language yelled out as part of their drinking game rituals. If you want this type of experience to share with your 2 1/2 year old, I would recommend you taking them to a frat party as there will be far fewer mosquitoes. read more

Great camp ground with an amazing staff! Location is perfectly situated, tucked into the forest preserve yet close to the city. We had a wonderful time here relaxing, hiking, biking and reconnecting with family! Would recommend this camp ground for its convenience and wonderful staff! read more
