After its completion, the new bridge was named the "Senator John A. Nejedly Bridge" in his honor. In 1979, nearby land was acquired for the Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline with the support of Nejedly, and it was Nejedly's suggestion that some of the old bridge's pillars be used for what is now a fishing pier." I remember this bridge being wooden and very rickety. I also remember my parents letting me pay the toll person handing them 50cents through the car window! Then $1...then $2 and so on. Now the toll is a crazy $5 dollars. I'd think the bridge was paid for by now. On the Sherman Island side there is no toll. And that's where you used to be able to park your car then walk along the path under the bridge and up to the water at Mayberry Slough and put your poles in the water and fish. Not anymore.

Nice to see how each section is labeled and divided up by room. I thought it was only going to take 30 minutes or less to see everything, but I ended up spending nearly an hour to absorb everything. Seeing how things were back in the good old days to learning how things have developed over the years is pretty incredible. Antioch, believe it or not, also has a very rich sports history, which would explain their fairly large sports memorabilia gallery on the lower level. All the folks who operate the museum are volunteers. The museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 PM - 4 PM.

We also paid a small additional fee to have two museum tours added onto our party package. The museum tours were a hit with our guests of all ages and was so cool to get private tours of the Galindo house and upstairs museum in the hall. There are also elevators for our guests who struggled with stairs. Gerry Ellen was a wonderful coordinator and helped walk us through all of the details from beginning to end. The ceremony was held in a beautiful area with a huge tree to provide shade for some of the guests. In another area, close by, there is also a pretty gazebo. Pretty roses and plants surrounding the whole area. At night, they have some string lights lit up around to provide a nice, cozy lighted area. They only have outdoor restrooms, but they are nice. It was a nice special day for the couple, along with their family and friends, to help celebrate this blessed occasion!

Exploring the California State Parks list online a number of years ago, I liked the description and…read moremap of Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. It was neat in that there were historical building(s), a cemetery, and different parts of mines in addition to the natural landscape, plants, and animals to observe. I visited a few different times in 2018 plus or minus a year. One time I brought my friend Jinsol along and another time I brought family (my mom and dad). The park volunteers/workers were friendly when we encountered them. We appreciated the map(s) of the park, it helped with exploring. Some sites were more readily identifiable than others. My mom had difficulty on some of the steeper trails, though my dad faired well. Some parts of the mines had information displayed though were not open on my visits. One of my visits was during a heat wave, while the remainder were during relatively average weather conditions. Shade was sparse, though present, during the heat wave. Even in the shade however, the heat seemed to spread. On a different occasion I slipped and fell on a pathway that had a small section that was temporarily dominantly mud. A place requiring my full attention for traversing the trail system.

It's very popular with dog walkers but not much to see in terms of flowers or landscaped scenary. Lots of trees that look wind blown and tired. There's a warning about coyotes. This is supposed to be coyote territory so I was scared to venture beyond the busier main area to explore. There's also a small community garden nearby but it's locked up and you can't enter it but it's super small so you can see pretty much everything from the outside of the fence. A bit of a sad park. I recommended Blake Garden in Kensington which has very limited hours but there's so much more to see there and it's also free.
