Attending Taconic as a camper and then later working as a counselor was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. It wasn't just about the fun (though there was plenty of that!) -- it was about the friendships, the independence, and the life lessons that have stayed with me ever since. Some of my closest, lifelong friends are people I met at camp. There's something about spending summer days together -- laughing through late-night talks, swimming, sharing meals, and learning side by side -- that forges incredibly strong bonds. These friendships weren't just for the summer; they've lasted well into adulthood. Camp also gave me a real sense of independence. Being away from home, making my own decisions, solving problems, and taking care of myself in a new environment helped me grow in ways I never could have imagined at the time. I didn't realize it then, but those small daily responsibilities were shaping me into someone more confident and capable. Most importantly, camp taught me invaluable life skills -- resilience, teamwork, leadership, empathy, and communication. Whether it was stepping out of my comfort zone to try something new, helping a friend through homesickness, or learning how to work as part of a group, every experience added to who I am today. Working at Camp Taconic has been one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences I have had. The camp has an incredible sense of community: from the campers and counselors to the leadership team, everyone feels like one big family. this is going to be my 7th and final summer, at least as a camper here at camp taconic, and I can tell you this: by not sending your kids here, you're making a HUGE mistake. I could vomit looking at some of these ratings. I go on lots of tournaments for sports, and I can tell you that everyone I've ever been on, the most common remark we make (we being the team I'm on) is how much nicer our camp is than whichever one we attend. I swear to you, if you take a tour, you will not be able to turn it down, especially after you see how much fun it is. My brother went there, my sister just finished her last summer, after being a camper, a counselor and eventually a group head, and the consensus we've all reached is that there is no other camp on earth we would have had a better experience attending. I really mean it. I hadcousins who were not enjoying themselves at the camps they were at (6 cousins) and I told them to go to taconic, they did, and they loved it so much that they all now work here as counselors and their only regret is that they didn't come soon enough. read more

This year was my first year as a camp councillor and it won't be my last! I had the most incredible time over the 8 weeks I was working here, and the experiences I have gained will never leave me. I worked at science taking care of puppies which then got to go home to 3 families who I got to know over the summer. As a 15's councillor I got the chance to go to California for a week and that is an experience i'll never forget and I can't thank the team enough for what a brilliant time I had. I've recommended camp to so many friends and family, I truly believe it's something everyone should try and without a doubt would enjoy. I look forward to many more years here! Being a counselor at Camp Taconic is seriously one of the best experiences ever! The kids were awesome, each with their own hilarious personalities, and getting to know them is so rewarding. Plus, the other counselors are super cool, and we basically have become a big, goofy family, always laughing and supporting each other. The days were packed with fun activities, from swimming in the lake to epic games. Sure, it was tiring, but seeing the campers' faces light up during these moments made it all worthwhile. Camp Taconic was blessing in disguise. I had no idea what I would be signing up for when my university sent an email for an application to come here. The friendships you gain not only with other staff members but with the campers is incomparable. The atmosphere is constantly uplifting, positive, and welcoming. For someone who is a homebody, and hasn't really left home for a long period of time, this was exactly what I needed to get myself out of my comfort zone, and Taconic took me in with open arms as they do with all of their staff and campers. Camp Taconic is truly an amazing place that feels just like home. From the moment you arrive, you're welcomed with open arms and surrounded by people who quickly become your second family. My three kids have been going to camp Taconic for a combined 15 years. They are all three totally different kids and all three consider camp their happy place. Taconic has been incredible for each of them. Every year they count down the days until they get to go back. If we've needed the support of the camp, managing a health issue, any homesickness, any friend issues, we've found them nurturing and responsive.
