I was here in June for a family reunion to see relatives, I had not seen in 50 years. It's even possible one of them had worked here as a maid in the 70s or 80s so that was really interesting. It was her old stomping ground. She lived here the rest of the family live nearby. This is a throwback to the 1970s which is why it's so charming and I think that's why so many people would love it. I didn't get to walk the grounds until the last day but there is actually an old-fashioned 70s style arcade with pinball machine machines it's just exactly like how it was when we were kids in the 70s and went camping with our parents. That's the type of stuff you would find. There's an old gathering hall in the back with wood floors that hasn't been used probably forever, which is gorgeous, there's a little Arboretum in the middle of the square that they light up every night with little violet lights. It's beautiful and you can tell that was an old area where there's a fountain that's no longer working. All charming and quaint. There's a little fire pit you can walk to in the back that looks like the type of fire pit we had at camp in 1975. It just has that old vibe that everyone loves and is disappearing everywhere so I pray they never change anything, but I don't think they will. The cabins are the same they're old-fashioned and beautiful however, inside they have been somewhat modernized because that's the world we live in people would be upset if things were original I wouldn't but a lot of people would. I found it to be gorgeous and quiet. The only complaint I had and they did give me back some money for that and I really do appreciate that is that my little mini fridge was rocking and making a lot of noise all night and that did keep me from sleeping, that was rough. I'm a light sleeper and I found the rooms to be cold because it's regulated heat and I didn't know I could go up and ask for a space heater or bring one so I didn't now I know. To answer the question would I come back again?? 100% I loved it there and of course the kitchenette was filled with everything you need, I didn't take a shower there which sounds bad because I was freezing, but the showers were clean. The bathrooms were nice. The room was small, but really good for the price. I do plan to come back next May and hopefully I'm on great terms with them. I think my little complaints or issues were reasonable and fair or they wouldn't have refunded but I'm glad that they did and I'm glad I brought it up so the next person doesn't go through those issues and I'm glad that I'm letting people know if you do get cold there. You can ask for a space heater or bring your own but just make sure you let them know. Let them know you brought it because space heaters are fire hazards and you don't want to cause trouble in a beautiful area like this Also, they did have an incredible campground which I left out so there was an area for RVs and then in the back there were actual pads where people had tents and camping gear and all I thought was wow I wish I could do that next time maybe my cousin will do that with me for a day or two and I can have the cabin as well oh, and I did forget to mention that some of the cabins had fireplaces which I think I will try to get next Time. This is the ONLY place to stay!! Also not far from the only gas station and the only market, which are both great!

First of all, the scencery is absolutely stunning. It's pretty easy to drive through the park and pop out at scenic spots for a view of the ocean (such as Wedding Rock, so named as a beautiful spot for a wedding). There's also wonderful hiking, including the Rim Trail and the path down to Agate Beach. Also... beachcombing camping learning about the history of the area at the Visitor Center biking nature photography and much more! There is an entrance fee; however, if you avail yourself of the California State Park Library Pass, it's free! Either way, definitely worth a vist.

It is nothing like the beaches in SoCal which is everything that I wanted to experience. I enjoyed how cool the weather was and the smells of the clean, crisp air. It was just under $10 to visit for the day and we spent about an hour solely taking in the views. Overall, highly recommend if you are in this neck of the woods.

September 23-25, 2024 - This is the third time we have stayed at this small RV Park. The park is…read morenestled in a wooded setting, surrounded by trees and greenery, providing a relaxing atmosphere. We were able to get one of the sites with a deck that overlooks the pond. Our site had two wooden Adirondack chairs, a small drink table, a picnic table, and a fire pit. There is a trellis fence between each site which provides privacy. The park is located next to Sue-Meg State Park. We walked to the park one morning and hiked the Rim Trail. The short distance to the park made taking our car unnecessary, always a nice bonus. The park is clean and well maintained, and staff are friendly and welcoming. The only negative of this location is that you are right next to US 101, so you do hear a little traffic noise. But you are also next to the ocean, so you also hear the Sea Lions. So take one star off for the traffic noise, but add an additional star for the Sea Lions.

Gold Bluffs Beach and Campground in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a remote beach in northern…read moreHumboldt County. I personally love how secluded this beach is that stretches out for miles. This beach is great for walking along the shoreline and/or enjoying a picnic at. In order to get here you will have to drive on a somewhat twisty road for about 6 miles. It is right next to Fern Canyon so I love visiting both at the same time due to the close proximity to one another. There are unique hikes in Fern Canyon due to the fern-covered walls you can walk through. This is such a beautiful area. I have not used the campground and only visited the beach so I can't speak to the campground aspect of this area. It is very peaceful and serene and a place where you can often spot elk.

Gold Bluffs Beach extends for 10 miles along the Humboldt County coast in Prairie Creek Redwoods…read moreState Park. It requires a day use permit to enter because of the volume of visitors that come here. Mostly because popular Fern Canyon is next to it. Gold Bluffs has a campground with 26 sites. Permits are not required if you have camping reservations. To reach Gold Bluffs Beach, you have to drive on a 6 mile windy dirt road called Davison Rd that you can access near the Elk Meadow picnic area. Trailers are not allowed on Davison Road. Visitors will need to pay the day-use fee, or show their federal pass or CA state park passes at the Gold Bluffs Beach entrance station. You can also hike the 11-mile James Irvine loop trail from Prairie Creek Visitor Center. No permit is required if you are hiking. Gold Bluffs Beach was named after a gold discovery in the 1850's that attracted some interest by miners. If you are going to come here, make sure you check out nearby Fern Canyon. It is a must-see! The 1,200 mile California Coastal Trail runs through Gold Bluffs. After hiking Fern Canyon, I walked over to the coast of Gold Bluff to walk in the water and soak in the sun.

Another fun highlight was finding a banana slug in my camp when I returned and it filled me with so much joy. 10/10 I will come stay here again, especially since the rates are so reasonable! I will say that the sites are somewhat small and there is some road noise (through no fault of the owners), but since I didn't spent much time in camp anyways, that was more than fine by me. They are transparent about that and it is just something to keep in mind rather than anything that detracts from the stay as long as you know what you're getting into and are okay with that.

Absolutely stunning county park encompassing a truly large lagoon, beaches, and a peat bog. Yes, a…read morepeat bog, which is home to native California orchids and carnivorous plants. The park is right next to the Big Lagoon Rancheria, a federally recognized Native American tribe since 1918. While I did not visit the Rancheria, there were signs advertising "Firewood for Sale" on the road to the reservation. There are so many signs all over the park about the dangers of swimming in the water that I would assume there have been multiple drownings at this location. Most of the recreation I saw was kayaking and paddle boarding rather than swimming. You can also launch your own boat here. The lagoon itself is calm and stunning; but once you venture out to open sea, the currents, rough surf and steep drop off lead to very dangerous situations. It's also in a tsunami zone, so there's that. Day use fee applies (cash or... check, remember those?). Clean restrooms and parking available. A concession was renting out kayaks the day I visited; not sure if that's always avaliable, though. The peat bog is to the east of the lagoon and worth a visit. Stunning location!

The restrooms aren't bad, unless you're high maintenance and need a clean restroom. For me, it's camping, you get what you get! If you expect luxury get a hotel. The camp host is accommodating and very nice. I would recommend bringing your own camp fire wood or getting it from a near by store because the camp fire wood that is sold by the camp host is sometimes too moist to start a fire.

It's a 10 mile round trip but you can do it if you are healthy/able. We went with our 10 year old & 8 year old (but they are pretty outdoorsy & fit- they've been raised doing this) if you have small kids, maybe drive over to fern canyon instead and skip that hike. Anyways, you will see Elk, banana slugs, deer & possibly bear and cougars. Always hike with bear spray & protection. Bring quarters!! The ranger station doesn't give change. & showers take quarters. You will not have reception unless you drive into Orick or crescent city.
