I have stayed here AND photographed getting ready photos for an intimate elopement, and I can confidently say this is my favorite place to stay in California! In fact, everytime I capture a wedding in Redwoods NP, I come to this spot. The rooms definitely feel older, but are so cozy and have everything you need. The property is beautiful and surprisingly peaceful for being in town. The hot tubs and sauna are probably the best part, second only to the unique setting and rich gardens. I had a great time here last year, but this time I was here on a weekend. It was crowded, noisy (the walls are very thin between rooms), and the outdoor baths - when one was available - didn't have hot water. There's no staff on property, so when my door/key code didn't work and my room heater didn't turn off, I had to text and then wait for a somewhat cool response. The place is beautiful, the rooms are well-appointed, and the bed was very comfortable. If I try again, I'll come on a Wednesday. read more

The owners did a good job on the landscape and nailed the oasis feel. The more we walked around the little compound the more we discovered and the more we loved this little private hotel. I'm certain that this property is just right for some people. Soaking tubs and a landscape of ferns and bamboo and moss. There is a hippie vibe. However, I'm a senior now with mobility issues. All transactions are on your computer or phone. There is no one to greet you, or help you if you need assistance. You receive entry codes on your email, and then you get to figure out which code is for which transaction. I managed to figure out how to open the car gate and took one of the 4 secure parking places . I was lucky and got one of the spaces. Then I had to handle my luggage and get to my room. Fortunately, an employee's dog happened to get out and she accidentally met me. At that point, she actually did assist me to my room. The key was in a box with a code and the stairs were difficult. I walked in to find incense blowing in the room. The decor was unusual and in colors that were more jarring than welcoming. Rules for the kitchen: wash your own dishes. Does that mean that I would be using dishes washed by the previous occupant? Is there ice? Only if the previous occupant filled the ice cube tray. The shower was nice and large and dark. No top sheet on the bed, just a duvet, and it was actually comfy. I was afraid to use kitchen items as I paid a deposit. I had no map of the grounds to find the hot tub and sauna. There was a multi-paged book of instructions and information. I was not willing to go out for food and lose my protected parking space. My stay felt like staying with a grumpy and demanding old fashioned aunt with rules that keep you from making any kind of disorder. read more

Very interesting place. The interior grounds, while very small and probably too small for the amount of rooms they are offered, are well kept. The rooms themselves, eh. Funky aesthetics and with our particular room, the cabin, the amount of accumulated dust was pretty shocking. The overall feel of the room was not that of thorough cleanliness. The location. Very deceptive marketing. It is in a neighborhood that just looks rough. Surrounded by dilapidated single family homes and low income apartment buildings. Overall, way too expensive for what you get and what was advertised. $1k + for two nights was too steep in my opinion and I was happy to check out and leave on Sunday morning. read more

I researched activities that teenagers love before I planned our latest family Vacation. Not surprisingly, going to Instagrammable places was near the top of the list. This place was a highlight for our four teenagers and such a fun quirky place and VERY uniquely Instagrammable. Everything was well thought out and very Organic but luxe feeling, in a weird, rustic kind of way. We had the Cabin and Basecamp and we loved every minute. We stayed in the "Lodge". There are two bedrooms, a well stocked kitchen and a very large living space that has a gorgeous redwood dining table. There are three TV's in the room, one in the living room and one in each bedroom. The deep copper tubs were the highlight for me! read more

I stayed here on a work trip while in the area. The inn is old and needs some updating. The $260 per night after tax rate for one person on a weeknight was not a good value in my experience. The photos and overly generous/complimentary 5 star reviews lead you to expect a nice relaxing resort but it did not meet my expectations. The neighborhood is a bit dreary and I felt I could not leave anything visible in my car when parking on the street overnight. The sauna was a big factor in choosing this place but was broken when I arrived and when I left. The bathroom sink was cracked and should be replaced, the light switch was broken, the remotes for the lights/fans were taped to hold the batteries in, furniture was in poor condition, TV did not have any service and so on. The garden was nice but not overly impressive and also small. The inn is close to the Arcata Marsh which is convenient for a nice morning walk. read more

I'm glad I didn't read any reviews prior to making our reservations for the Independence Day weekend. We had a lovely stay and experienced none of the negatives that other Yelpers complained about. Yes, the prices are on the high side and the breakfast offerings are sub-par. However, we found our room to be clean and quite comfortable. The amazing thing about the property is the presence of the outdoor tub grottoes. Someone put a serious amount of time and energy into creating their vision for relaxing spaces. This is the primary reason for staying at this establishment. The grottoes are first come first served but we always found a space when we looked. Location is a few blocks from downtown Arcata with a great Saturday farm market. Adjust your expectations and relax. We did and enjoyed ourselves very much. read more

What drew me in was definitely their outdoor spa area. Feels like you're somewhere in a tropical jungle very far away from everything. But in actuality you're in a large city next to all the conveniences life has to offer. There are several different private outdoor bathtubs. Some for singles and others can fit more. Each one offers a door for complete privacy. Not just a door, but a piece of art made from redwood. There's also waterfall features allowing your warm water to cascade into your bathtub. The thoughtfulness nature of the designers shows everywhere. These spaces are truly sacred. Picture yourself in warm water, under the night sky surrounded by real fern walls. This is an idyllic place to stay, whether for a one night respite from driving to the glorious five night retreat we savored here. Convenient access to town, yet a world away once you enter the "front porch" into an oasis that thoughtfully recreates the glorious redwoods and lush ferns so unique to California's north coast. The soaking tubs are even more luxurious than the photos, the rooms aesthetically charming and well equipped. The staff we briefly interacted with were kind and helpful. We visited the front porch inn for my husbands birthday. We stayed in the sun drop and it was absolutely amazing! When you arrive you would never know the oasis hidden behind the fence. Although they have limited parking, street parking was just as convenient. They are located about one block from the marsh which has some fantastic walking trails. And they are located within walking distance to Arcata square for shopping, events, food, and of course the farmers market! They are pet friendly and the Sun Drop is the perfect room for dogs. It is hidden in the back which is very convenient. The tubs are open 24 Hours a day and this was great for us since we are more of night people rather then morning people. We will definitely be back here and will recommend it to all of our friends. Pro tip: both the copper tubs are not the same! They have different seating. I included pictures of both. Try both we found one more comfortable then the other. read more

We had the best time here! We stayed in the "hangout" which had a bedroom, living area, kitchen, and bathroom. Great care was taken to ensure all products were hypo allergenic, there was no shortage of towels to be used in the sauna and outdoor baths, and the kitchen came completely stocked with every gadget you could want including farm fresh eggs in the fridge! It was so wonderfully cozy and quaint. The courtyard was to die for! All wood, ferns, moss, and stone surrounding a gorgeous sauna and the cutest outdoor tubs you ever saw. This Michigander felt right at home like I was up north in a cabin. The check-in and check-out procedures were simple and easy, the quality of the room and property was exceptional, and the location was perfect for anyone looking for northern California treasures. An adorable and tranquil inn, an absolute gem nestled in an unassuming neighborhood in an unassuming town. The area is very quiet and close to Eureka, many good spots on the coast, and countless miles of beautiful forest hikes. Each room has a small kitchen with a fridge, small stove and oven, and coffee making supplies. We loved this place. We chose the forrest glade room. It was cozy. There is a kitchen which is nice, they provided fresh eggs for us and other things. even though we did not cook there, love the possibility for future visits. We booked directly from their website, but they also do airbnb. As an airbnb you are responsible for cleaning why you use, which is ok to us. The bed was comfortable, The bathhouse areas are nice, we were able to use the copper tubs both nights The place is relaxing, close to businesses and the owners were very responsive when needed. This place is absolutely adorable. My sister and I had the most relaxing stay here, in the base camp room. We were having such a great time, we went ahead and stayed a second night, even though she has a home in Arcata! We can't wait to bring our boyfriends back for anoyher stay. There were many others staying the same nights as us, but the inn is so private, we somehow still felt like we practically had the place to ourselves. We had the pleasure of running into one the owners on our way out the last day. His enthusiasm for what they are trying to do here at this sanctuary was absolutely contagious. ZERO compassion for other humans while trying to come off as a zen retreat, this business is the WORST I've ever dealt with. A week before our reservation, my very young daughter broke her foot in a freak accident. Because of this, we needed to cancel our plans (which were for a mid week, off season, 2 night stay). While I acknowledge a cancelation can be difficult for a small business, the front desk person was less than compassionate with our situation. Not only did I not receive any refund for our stay (which amounted to over $1,000 for a Wednesday and Thursday night!) but I just found another erroneous charge on our card for nearly $50. This will all be contested with my credit card company and I hope this review helps to warn other potential guests. read more

My only regret was that I only booked one night. I found this Inn for an overnight stay to attend a business event in the area. I plan to come back and explore the area for a few days as soon as possible. I stayed in the Zen Den. The room was clean and comfortable and was decorated to provide the ZEN vibe. The the kitchenette was fully stocked with everything you need to make your own meals. Fresh eggs in the fridge and teas/cocoa and instant oatmeal were a delight. This place is unique and a nice change from the regular motel scene. The gardens were lush and flowers were everywhere. Even though I was there only one night I was able to enjoy the hidden tubs for a cold and hot soak. I didn't have time to try the sauna but I peaked in the door and it was very inviting. read more
