Hard to believe (I am not a trusting person), but Coaches Steve and Ruth at the Archery Program are just that - amazing professionals and good people. 18 weeks ago I was referred to Coach Steve Elkins by another coach, and yes I admit it, I was naturally suspicious and he intrinsically knew it. Coach Steve Elkins is a Level 3/4 teacher - he is Olympian standard. I didn't phase him in the least: Steve used his astounding heuristic empathy and assessment of my personality and moods. Coach Steve took me from an ornery, stressed-out grumbler to a calm, relaxed and perfectly trained archer. (I'm still a pushy perfectionist though). I can now hit gold target rings consistently, with perfect form, at 200 feet. Coach Steve is understanding, compassionate...and uncompromising in seeking perfect of form and function from his students. Coach Ruth is an Olympian, and head coaching of the program. She is sweet, quiet and has a hawk eye for students performance. I am leaving VA for professional reasons, but I'm carrying with me amazing gifts from a dedicated set of professionals who love what they do - and are just really good people to know. After chatting with my fellow members and archery lovers at IWLA ARL-FFX, and my bowhunting friends at work, they all swore by Hoffman. The latter was interesting, as my friend lives near Quantico, so the fact that he is willing to drive up to Hoffman's from that distance speaks volumes about the quality. I went up yesterday after work to swap my peep sight and buy new arrows. And I gotta say the entire experience was fantastic. If I couldn't see Hoffman's 100000 rating out of 5, I would!! The entire staff was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The store had plenty of the good stuff -- no junk archery crap. And if you have questions or come prepared with stuff in mind, they'll have a healthy discussion with you and ask you questions, so that 1. You get your money's worth and 2. It's catering to your archery goals. Businesses like that are rare to see, and they provide a personal flair that explains why so many peers are repeat customers. The pricing was fair, and I didn't feel like I got ripped off. I received great service from friendly, knowledgeable staff, and I will return for all my archery needs. I went to Hoffman to…read moretalk with Farron to see if I could get a replacement part for my Bowtech Destroyer, He took a picture of the part and sent it to a Bowtech Rep., when I called Farron later to see if they still had the part available, Farron told me it was already on the way. 3 weeks later I called to see if the part had come in and I was told by another employee that they were waiting for Bowtech to make the discontinued part (REALLY??) and they would call me when it comes in. It's been 4 months and no phone call. Now I know that Farron doesn't want to help you unless you're buying something in his store. Stay Away from this crew!!

IWLA is a great place for outdoor activities. You have to be a member or a guest of a member, but I have totally gotten my money's worth out of the membership. Here at the Loudoun Chapter, they have a rifle and pistol range, a skeet range, a static archery range, a dynamic archery range, and a stocked lake for fishing. All the ranges are outdoor ranges. The Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. is excellent. Dan Davis is a great teacher. They rotate topics - archery, rifle, pistol, and shotgun. They provide all the firearms, the ammunition, the clays (for the shotgun class), and instruct the kids on safety and range rules and walk them through a course of fire on the range. Kids that shoot well enough can earn an NRA Marksmanship award. NRA certified classes cost less if you are an IWLA member.

Before giving the rave, I do want qualify my statement by saying this is only the second outdoor…read morerange I have ever visited. The first was the Adelphi Manor archery range in Maryland. Also, I would be considered a novice archer by most standards, though having spend 20+ in uniform, I have seen a few rifle ranges... Now with that said - wow! It costs $3 for two hours but there were proper targets posted so there was nothing else to buy. The most valuable thing for me was that the targets were staggered at 10 yard intervals. 10 yards all the way up to 60 yards. There were two other guys (only one shooting) while I was there and they were on one end so I could stagger my shooting first at the 20, then 30 and so forth. I made it all the way to 50 and stopped while the arrows were all accounted for. Something else I have never seen before, behind the firing line were racks to hang the bows. When you go down the range the bow can stay hanging (opposed to being left on the ground. Not far away, the PX and commissary were also superb so I expect to be back soon.

She assured me over the phone that by the end of our hour long experience my dad, my brother and I would hit the bullseye, and she delivered. She gave us pointers to help fix the issue I was personally having hurting my forearm/elbow and to become more accurate marksmen. She gave us just enough information to not be overwhelming but still gave us enough to work on to get better. It was extremely worth the price for the amount of skill increase and fun I experienced, and she reshaped my view of archery entirely, from really negative, to really positive. 10/10 would 100% would go again.

I'm relatively new to archery, so I greatly appreciated the time they took to talk with me. Second, these guys are clearly focused on being good, moral people. I needed to ship my bow so I called to ask for their professional help, and after this experience, I'll be their customer for life.
