The bed was comfortable (firm) and the shower had excellent water pressure (modern bathroom). Delphine made excellent food for our breakfasts each morning, she is quite the cook and very cordial. She does not speak very much English, but she tries. Luckily I was with a French speaker so that helped a lot. Each room has a placard with a picture of a cow on the door, all different. In the alps you will see so many different breeds of cattle, different from what we have in the US. I fell in love with Charolais cattle while in France so I loved that each room had it's own representative cow. The area around L'Abondance is beautiful, it was a joy to take a walk around each day. There is a quaint 2 block shopping area that has all you need and some very fine restaurants too. We were in the Pont du Fossé area in the Fall when the color of the leaves were changing making the beauty of the Alps was something to behold. I think of it often. Soup as a starter and a delicious pork dinner with potatoes and perfectly cooked green beans. The dessert and coffee that followed were also wonderful. Being away from home I always enjoy properties having animals and we were greeted at the of the meal by the family dog and also the cats stopped by for a quick hello. The room is comfortable and offers a nice sized shower and separate large bathtub. We have not enjoyed breakfast yet but I'm sure it will not disappoint. We are already making plans to return next fall when we are in the area again.

From my phone calls leading up to our stay with requests, to the ease of check-in and friendly smiles and service, the staff went above and beyond to make all of the festival goers feel welcome this weekend. I also really appreciated how they did wristband checks late at night to prevent non-hotel guests from entering the property for safety reasons. Rooms: We had a bedroom with 2 beds and a connecting room with 3 beds. They were small but roughly the same size but had a few random differences. Windows opened which was nice. Lights were a little difficult to figure out. Closet doors in ours jammed. Rooms come with safes but you have to ask staff for the key. Towels are changed every other day based on a set schedule. The bathrooms flood easily and because of this there is mold on the wood in there and water gets trapped under the cracks. Food/Drinks: The food could be hit or miss. The cheeses were great and the soft serve bread was usually great, but sometimes was a little tough. The half board package we had included free, white or red wine, which was delicious but would run out closer to the end of service. I think that a greater variety of fresh fruits would be appreciated as well as either more seasoning on the food or seasoning stations for the food, and some of the proteins were quite bland. I loved the liver when it was available. No room service unfortunately. Amenities: while we never had time to visit the pool or game room, they did look really nice. Being attached to a ski rental shop in the basement with included storage was a wonderful perk as well. One thing that could've really added to the experience is if there were more free water stations, as there was only one on the bottom floor, which ran out during one of the evenings. The public restrooms in the space were spacious and clean, and I really enjoyed the lounge areas and the bar. Location: Somewhat ski in and ski out, which was nice! Located extremely close to both the bus stop and the Bergers city center, as well as several ski lifts. Overall, I did really like staying here and felt the price was fair, but do realize that I booked through the festival so I'm not sure how rates normally would compare to normal service. If I return to this festival, I would likely choose another place to stay just so I could experience what the other side of Huez was like, but would recommend this to those on a budget that still want amenities and food included.

The demi pension (room with breakfast and dinner included) was a wonderful and delicious value. The menu was full of local, organic fruits, vegetables, fish, and meats, all very well prepared. A particularly delicious dish is called "Orielles d'âne," or "Donkey Ears." It's like the macaroni and cheese of the Gods, trust me. The service was warm and personal. This valley is a paradise for hikers, kayakers, or those who just want to get away from it all, and Val des Sources is a great place to stay while you are here.

My sister and I skied in Alpe d'Huez many years ago and we were very pleased to return there with…read moreski friends this year Marketed as the Island in the Sun due to its south-facing aspect, my vivid tan confirms that when the sun comes out, you will be enjoying warm sunshine. However, later in the season, it can get slushy on the lower runs in the afternoon Alpe d'Huez's main asset are its slopes. There's enough to keep to keep the vast majority of skiers of all abilities occupied for a week. The slopes are well laid out with a wealth of green slopes at the base of the main village bowl, allowing beginners to get their confidence up in those early ski weeks near to home. However, for those who fancy more of a challenge, there's the formidable Tunnel run. Yes, you ski through a long tunnel to emerge onto a ledge with a vertigo-inducing drop on one side encouraging you to make the turn before you drop off the side of the mountain! The other famous run in resort is the Sarenne, which is the longest run in the world at 16km. It's marked as a black run on the piste map but you can miss out the steepest part of the run at the beginning and the rest of the run is really mo more than a red run by gradient One other feature in the resort is the chairlift taking skiers over from the main Alpe d'Huez ski area over to the Auris ski area. Nicknamed the Scare Chair by locals, it leads under a concrete tunnel which takes you under the main runway for the airport before diving over a precipitous edge into the Sarenne Gorge before climbing up the other side. With runs leading to satellite villages like Montfrais (powder runs galore), Oz (no sign of the wizard!), Vaujany and the original town of Huez, you can put the travel miles in too We found some fun snow parks and boarder cross courses to have fun in The village is especially well equipped with off-slope activities. There's an outdoor swimming pool, an ice sakting rink (which turns into an ice go karting track on some evenings), a sports centre with indoor swimming pool, a tobaggan slope and an ice driving circuit. There's also night skiing on Thursday evenings when the Signal slopes are floodlit and stay open late The prices at the mountain restaurants were reasonable and we found some nice food on the slopes This is a fantastic resort, which I can highly recommend

You can get to the highest point in the French Alps at this resort and ski to neighboring resorts as well. This is without a doubt my favorite place. There is something for everyone. The only negative I can think of is snow. If the season is not so great, your skiing here will be horrible. I experienced good and bad here, and when it's bad, it's really bad. You'll spend the entire time dodging patches of grass, rocks, and gravel. My skis unfortunately got pretty damaged :(

It's a slightly funky place; Old school, a bit... not tatty exactly, but dated at least, in some places. Our room was large and had beautiful French windows opening onto a tiny balconette. The bathroom was very contemporary. It was simply, but nicely done, and immaculate. We changed and went down for our dinner reservation right away since we had arrived late. This is a teaching facility for the hospitality industry, and the staff in all areas of the business are in some stage of their training. There is teaching staff supervising and guiding throughout the meal. We were seated in the front room of the restaurant near the windows facing the grounds. If we had arrived earlier we could have had drinks at the beautifully paneled bar behind the dining room. We opted for the Menu Degustation of seven courses. They figured out that Himself has only limited French; it's been almost 40 years since he lived in France and rusty doesn't even begin to describe it... They made a huge effort to provide English descriptions of the courses, and we could tell there was a fair bit of googling going on behind the scenes. Clearly they are mostly frequented by locals, not tourists. We had a really enjoyable meal, everything was good and some things were elevated in to really delicious. The plating was simple and attractive, typical flourishes and dots of sauce and puree and foam. The service was attentive and, with one exception, pretty polished. One unfortunate young lady was just a bit of a disaster. Her hair was scraggly, her uniform rumpled, her scarf hanging and dragging near plates and looked as if it sometimes had hit. Every time she opened the silverware drawer near us there was a huge clatter and then again when she closed it with an overabundance of enthusiasm. She dropped things and seemed unable to keep her hands away from her face. We guessed she was very new to the program perhaps! The wine list was modest, but sufficient, and the teacher on duty stepped in and assisted with the wine. The young man who was our main server was lacking knowledge of the wines from personal experience. Because this is not, as I had assumed, a college. It is a high school. And these chefs, concierges, and waiters and all were high school students. The level that they perform at is very impressive. In the morning we requested our breakfast in the room. It was a bit peculiar, and not in keeping with the dinner we had the night before. The small boxes of cold cereal, American style (Frosted Flakes and Coco Pebbles maybe?) next to the lovely fresh little baguettes and viennoiserie cracked us up. There were little jam and honey jars, and dried fruit and yoghurt. The coffee and cocoa were excellent and it was very generous tray, if a little strange. We were dubious when it arrived but pretty happy by the time we finished. The rates are so below market rate it seemed to us to be a very nice detour on the way to Lyon. The town was pretty, with an interesting old quarter, and we spent the better part of the next day hiking all over the Bastille, which has one of the most insane looking parkours I have ever seen! Good food well priced and off the beaten track!

I can also recommend the food, is was one of the best during our trip as well. very delicious french food and amazing collection of local cheeses. the next day we did an amazing hike on one of the old abandoned roads(?) that is leading up the mountains. beautiful!
