We booked spots in a large cabin about 10km from the welcome centre Accueil Gagnon. You drive to this starting point to register with the rangers and then head out to your cabin. These are cabins you can hike, ski, or snowshoe to in the winter. You pay a flat fee per bed in the cabins and can pay an extra fee to have the staff take one 20kg bag per person in for you on skidoo, which is an awesome service that allows for a relaxed trip through the woods. Definitely remember to tip these folks, they haul a lot of weight and work in very intense conditions sometimes. The ski trails were too dangerous for us to cross country ski on this past weekend, only because we were in the midst of a mini ice storm and the trail is sometimes narrow and along ledges overlooking the river. Beautiful, but not fun when on ice and strapped to two slippery sticks. We skied on the skidoo trail and while still intense the route was peaceful and fun, with gorgeous views along the water and no death drops. I still fell. Repeatedly. But not off cliffs. The cabins are quite private - we were on our own lake - but if your group isn't big enough to book the whole thing you may have strangers sharing with you, just like when hiking hut to hut in the White Mountains and elsewhere. The cabins have gas stoves, gas lights and a huge glorious wood stove with a pile of wood provided. You must haul your own water up from the lake and boil it to make it safe to drink, and you must bring in all your own food etc. Bathrooms are two outhouses about 15feet from the cabin. They are quite what you'd expect from an outhouse, and if you leave the door open you get a lovely view of the trees and the lake while you do your thing.

It's difficult to fully review the "parks" - so this review will focus on the Equestrian Park. The parks have an interesting history - the National Equestrian Park was the first iteration with construction starting in 1974 via a lease of the lands by the City of Ottawa. In 2012, the city gave up the lease. The land use was up in the air for a few years, until a new lease was awarded to Wesley-Clover Foundation - my best guess was in or around 2018. Over the past several years, incremental improvements have been made. Was out there today and it is looking beautiful. The grounds are in great shape, the show rings are beautifully groomed and the cross-country area was gorgeous. Not sure what the riders thought of the course, but from a spectator point of view, I was able to see 80% of the course from my chosen vantage point. (The one draw back to this course is how flat it is - but you can't have everything!) In addition to the grounds improvements, there is now what seems to be a semi-permanent café for special events with typical horse-show foods (coffee, grilled food - like grilled cheese, pastries) - and another Coffee trailer was also on the grounds (with delicious butter tarts by the way), so I hope this trend keeps up. I was there for a Horse Trial, which tends to be lower key than Hunter Jumper, Stadium Jump and Dressage - I can only imagine that more horse-related vendors show up at the bigger shows. Very glad to see such great things happening here.

Around Christmas they hold "Magic of Lights" at Wesley Clover Park. This year it is November 21,…read more2019 - January 4, 2020, every night 5pm-10pm. Magic of Lights is a drive through light display. It's $20-30 a car, depending on day of the week (more expensive on weekends) and method of payment (cheaper if you buy in advance online, more expensive if you pay cash at the entrance). You can also tune into MAJIC 100.3 FM on your radio to hear Christmas music while you drive through the lights show. I did Magic of Lights with my husband and father-in-law. It was fun to do once, but I don't think that I would do it again, especially considering the cost. They had different themes through the display such as fairy tales/nursery rhymes, Nativity scene, the 12 Days of Christmas, Christmas around the world, and a few others. I think its something I would have enjoyed more if I was a kid. I have never been to Wesley Clover Park except for the Magic of Lights. However, the park is a campground. You can also do cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, field sports, and horseback riding there too.

The live band and party the owners put on was really nice. However, the site we reserved was rented out (there was a particular reason for reserving that site) so they placed us elsewhere. Would've been ok, but, we were next to long term campers that were not maintained and all of their stuff was strung out. We stayed there for 4 days and no one showed up. The grass was overgrown underneath their rig, allowing mice but they were kept at bay by the snakes we found slithering in the tall grass under the camper. The service truck that those neighbors had was parked in the roadway and on our site which made parking, pulling in, and pulling out difficult. Again, it too didn't move so thankfully the campsite was cleared out by the time we left. The campground is also on a slope and the way that the sites are positioned, septic lines will be dumping uphill. This won't be a problem if your dump station is in the front of your RV. Access to the river is limited unless you're of the mindset of no campsite etiquette, which there was plenty of (not the fault really of the owner). There are, however, DEC access points to fish the Salmon relatively nearby which was nice. If this was a $25-30/nite site then ok, whatever, but it's not.
