I made a 9 o'clock appointment with the owner John. He never showed up and the other two barbers looked embarrassed. I rescheduled for another time and he showed up ten minutes late, disheveled hair, bloodshot eyes and reeking of alcohol and marijuana. He rudely instructed me to hop in the chair and rushed my service. I definitely felt rushed. The haircut was average at best. Needless to say, I will not be coming back and I'll tell the rest of the Spartan Band not to. John needs a close shave and a course in professionalism. read more

I Had long, luscious hair and specifically asked for a simple cut with clear pictures. Time and time again, I had asked my barber Alex to follow. Unfortunately, he had a mind and just went with the flow. The end product was awful, and I had to go to another barber shop and get my hair done - which resulted in the shaving off of my whole hair. I wouldn't come back. I had alex cut my hair now My hair doesn't even look faded at all. My hair look like someone put a bowl on my head and cut it. Best barber shop in town! Look no further! No other barber shop comes close! I've got my hair cut at many of the barber shops in Lansing and campus barbers is my favorite. I've been going there for a couple years. Save your time! Don't go anywhere else! Hands down best barber shop in town! By far! I've been going here for the last couple of years and can confidently say I've found "my usual place" after about ten years of searching and bouncing from barber to barber. I tell all of my friends to go here. Stupidly, most of them don't, but that just makes it easier to get an appointment. Which you should absolutely do because walk-ins, while welcome, are generally in for a bit of a wait. Jeff always cuts my hair. Guy does a great job and will do exactly what you tell him to. He will also do you the courtesy of letting you know how that's going to look, good or bad, which I appreciate as someone with no knowledge of what I'm actually supposed to do with hair. I aways leave Jeff's chair looking like as close to a million bucks as I can get. My only regret is not going in three weeks ago when I probably should have. read more

Actually, they do take reservations. Get out of the way if you're some fussbudget used to going to salons. $15.00 is what they charge. They do what you you tell them, and once they know you, you hardly have to say anything. Just sit down. Parking a little inconvenient, and they don't take plastic.Classic barber shop with an old school feel. read more

Poorly run. You can call ahead and make an appointment but does that really matter? No. Half of the time you'll end up sitting there an extra half hour waiting because they over booked. Did you make an appointment and got in right away? Well if it's crowded expect your haircut to be rushed and minimal effort put in. Honestly, what is the point of having five barber chairs when there are only ever three working? The haircuts given when the establishment is not busy are fine but do not expect anything amazing. Along with all of this the establishment just feels dirty and not well kept. The only reason they stay open is because of the location and giving cheap haircuts. If you care about your time and hair I would not bother coming here. read more

Reasonable cut at a good price. I always go here without appointment for the element of surprise (short-ish means different things in different chairs). Always a good chat, and usually a good cut. On my last visit, I thought I had made an appointment with John, who I've had before and does a good job. When I got there, I was told my appointment was with Jeff. These guys are terrible. They take reservations and appointments, but do not honor them. They make you wait upwards of 20 minutes after your appointment time. If you call them, more often then not they rudely hang up on you. There haircuts are lousy. They do not give you what you ask for and cut your hair as if you are a 1940's greaser. They do not converse with you and when they do, they talk about irrelevant, god knows what topics. I have gotten a few haircuts here each time with a different barber and each one has screwed up my hair so badly that I had to wear a hat until my hair grew back. I would never get another haircut here. There are other barbers on campus and I recommend them over campus barbers. I truly cannot believe that such a lousy company is still in business. The barbers are old, out of style, and need to leave the 19th century and learn modern style. read more
